I wish I could give this game 4 1/2 stars...

... but I can't. You see, the only thing that is the matter with this game is that it is impossibly difficult. Although many people WILL have a hard time changing from shooter to stealth, I had the problem that I was used to mindless action in the "view form" that you play Splinter Cell in.

The only thing wrong really, then, is that the game is hard at times and you have to actually use that noggin to figure things out.

But, there are great points to Splinter Cell as well. The story line is INCREDIBLY detailed and fluent, the graphics have reached a new level, the gameplay is innovative, and this game lasts you a LONG time because you will play it for a few months, beat it, and then replay it at a harder level, etc. This game is an incredible game, but please do be patient with the game, you WILL have to suffer through some antagonizing defeat and maybe some cussing about how you MAY just have to use your brain.

Help me out

I'm not an experienced gamer, but Splinter Cell looks promising enough. After doing some research, I've found quite a few messages from users who have had their PCs crash as a result of this game. Can anyone verify this?

amazing, and suspenseful

A half-stealth game

One of the most games that was spotlighted was splinter cell. So I was very anxious about this game, and expected a lot, but it really isn't good as I expected or the other people(espacilly reviewers) mentioned.

The most thing that made me disappointed is that it's a half stealth game. What I think of a 'stealth game'is usally about 'breaking in someplace stealthly' and 'taking care of enemies stealthly'. This game really does well with the 'taking care of enemies stealthly' part but it messed up(?) with the first 'breaking in someplace stealthly' part.
How did it messed it up with the 'breaking in part'? like some other reviewers said it's a really linear(straight) game. It's almost like playing those action adventure games like rayman and such with a non-fantasy enviroment. It's like getting path some weird obstical course and the courses are almost divided clearly. You might heard that this game has many routes to achive missions and the routes are only limited by players imaginations, but in my opinion you really can't. The paths are already made for you and sometimes looks like built unnaturally, every doggy hole or underground tunnels or monkey bar style paths are already set and you can't really break in the way you want like they say in games like Deus ex. And pre-set paths means sometimes you have set your standard the developers and search around paths to next places for an half an hour which you can get through in few seconds because you couldn't find the right path(it really makes me feel like playing doom to find your path)

Ok now let's talk about the other part of the apple(taking care of enemies)
Enemies are smart but not like player. They react as soon as you are spotted. But for an stealth game that which that needs to boost up intense feeling of getting spotted this game really doesn't make you feel intensed. With more details you're just way above the enemy. You get lots(?) of bullets than you think and if you just go for one shot per one enemy, if there isn't an restrictions on using guns, You could use just use your guns to get rid of your enemies not by hitting them. And you have the mighty night-vision so in dark places you're the king because they can't see you but they can't see you but you can see them, and the security cameras are nothing. You just shoot em then nothing, no guards coming out to check them. But the weird thing is it's still fun.

And for the visuals it's a job well done. Physical movement details are superb you can even see sam cover his mouth and nose when his shoots with one hand. And for all those acrobatic moves it evens make me to try those moves.

And for violence It's really a teen rated game. A little blood but not like the matured rated raven sheild. But the game's overall feeling is just Tom Clancy style. Feels like some 'R' rated movie but it's not that intense either.

Summary:Not some solid stealth game but one of the best stealth games you can find in the market. Don't expect some big intense feeling you can feel like when you play hide-and-seek and avoing the seeker without getting spotted by them. But, still you can have fun with the other piece of the apple that's left.

Awesome

I've been playing through the demo, and its so awesome, i love the thermal vision, its very helpfull on the jail, because its so hard to know if there coming down the hallway, and also the sticky cam! and the fiberoptic cord, all sweet! i was about to buy it today, but i had only 3 dollars short, so i couldn't buy it, but when i saw the prices on amazon, i seized all day! ((no, not really... just trying to find the best price)) i love the way that you can climb on pipes on the ceiling, i love the sticky shocker... i love the suprises.. if UBI soft could see this, Rock on!

One of the most intense game on the market!!! Nuff said

It begins with a complete tutorial and you might be overwhelmed by the numbers of moves and gadgets presented to you. You will need them all if you want to beat the game on the hard setting.
There is not much to add from the other excellent reviews. If you liked the Thief, Metal Gear Solid, or any other infiltration games, you owe it to yourself to buy this game immediately. You will find it at most bargain bins at less than $10. A steal.
The levels are all in different beautiful and detailed locales and the multiples objectives are never the same.
You want to stay in the dark? Shoot all the lights and wait for the baddies to fall in your traps. There are some timed objectives in the game but those are rare so take your time to enjoy the world of Splinter Cell.

Very good Game

This game was great for da ~X~ and looks good for the PC. However please do not compare this to metal gear solid, this game isnt as "solid" as metal gear was. If you like games like Ghost Recon, Metal Gear Solid, Project IGI, and other stealth games you should get this. One problem i have with this game is that the AI although very smart is sometimes too well uhhh too smart at somepoints (like a proken glass) or too dumb at other points(like the droping body of their teamate behind them). This game does have a much better arsenal than MGS though.

I have a demo for it for the PC...

And the lightning effects aren't at as a high resolution, and aren't as realistic but are still very good. All other engine quality is equal. The game ran much slower than it did on XBOX, 10fps. 30 on XBOX. Well wat dya expect when your running it on a GeForce 2 series video card. The game requires 256 mb of ram, 800MHZ pentium 3 or equivelant, 32mb 3-D hardware T & L directx8.1 compatible video card dx8.1 etc a bit higher than unreal 2's system requirements. This game still looks beatiful on the PC, a geforce 3 is recommended, I suggest a powerful computer for this game. :)

Had this game on xbox and now on pc, cant get enough of it

This is the best game i've ever seen, the only reason I gave it a four and not a five is because it's too short. I bought the game yesterday played it from about 5:00 pm - 12:00 AM then i played today from 10:00 - 6:00 with many stops i didn't play the game all the time so basically it took me a little over 12 hours. It's not the shortest game, longer then Max Payne for those of you who have played that but not anywhere near as long as half-life. If you like great graphics, gameplay and a good story line get this game, one thing i will warn you about though is the ending is kinda lame don't expect anything great at the end!
