This a very good game right off the bat. The graphics are excellent, the story is good and they throw in a few jokes in the game to keep you amused. Your name is Sam Fisher you have to stop a war with this guy named Nikoladze. A bad thing is why can the guards not see the green lights on Sam's forehead? O well. The game is great besides that point.
Breakthrough stealth game!

First of all, to all of you who are comparing Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell, you're comparing apples to oranges. Second of all, Splinter Cell just blew me away with its immersiveness and graphics. I got mine to run with incredibly fast loading times and not a single slowdown on my P3 933mhz 384 RAM with a 32mb graphics card. Any gripes with this game are not bad enough to even consider not giving it five stars. If it has a sequel, it will likely be the best game ever.
This game will put you in some crazy situations...

I just finished this game a little while ago, and here are my thoughts:
- Great graphics
- Great gameplay. Use your thermo goggles to see people across walls and ceiling and get rid of them! Cling on walls/ceiling/pipes and drop down on your unsuspectin enemies!
- Great gadgets. Ever want to use diversion cameras that make noise to draw the enemy away and then put them to sleep with some gas? You can with this game! You even have those little cameras that fit underneath doors to see what's on the other side.
- The balance between stealth and outright assault is good. I never got too frustrated at having to go on not shooting people because someway somehow they manage to put in a good assault here and there.
- The possibility to save anywhere is very very useful, but then again it makes the game less challenging. Basically, when you screw up you just press one key to get back where you were. Convenient, but you feel less satisfaction when you solve a mission.
- SOME CRAZY SITUATIONS:
Example 1 - Imagine being surrounded at gunpoint by 6 guys and you have your hands up... The lights go out and you have a few seconds until they put on their infra red goggles. What do you do?
Example 2 - How do you get by a obstacle mine field with search lights and snipers on the watch?
Anyway, I definitely recommend this game. Buy it, and you can always sell it when you're done.
Best game I've ever played

This game is a must-buy. Even if you are a poor college student, buy it just to give props to the devs. This game is beautiful, a work of art. Incredibly realistic, awesome, and just plain fun. Here's a hint: sneak. If you walk in guns-a-blaze, kiss [yourself] goodbye. Want to see a one shot kill? Well, then walk in guns-a blaze. Your enemies are trained and professional soldiers, not the [wimps]in most games. You cannot, in most cases, kill them outright. Two types of scoped vision (night and thermal), special weapons, more surprises than you can shake a stick at make this game the most fun I've had since, well, let's not get into that. Not that you'd want to shake anything; they'd see you. PLAY THIS GAME, you won't regret it.
Played it, then wondered what the big deal is...

No...I never did feel like Sam Fisher. The Graphics are some of the best I have seen, but graphics alone don't make a great game. I feel like I must be insane because I don't like it as well as 90% of the players, but this game is SO LINEAR it makes me sick. I would have loved to be able to go into all the doors it wouldn't let me in, and have the chance to actually figure things out myself. They may as well have left red arrows flashing to get you to the end quicker. I love stealth games, but a much better game was the old "Thief: The Dark Project" Made in 1998...Huge dissappointment. The game isn't half bad, its just that it is not all it was made out to be. Hats off to all you fans, but if you want multiplayer, or the option of thinking, look elsewhere. Buy thief, it is much better...

I'm not giving this game 5 stars because of the series of technical glitches I had with it, which the online patches managed to mostly fix. If bugginess out of the box annoys you, tread cautiously, and if it doesn't, make sure you download the patches. They do help.
Other than that...wow...what a great game! Very slick! It was better than I was expecting, honestly.
The character control is top notch even with only a keyboard and mouse, and the environments are eye-poppingly spectacular in detail. Also, I'd be remiss not to mention that the music is one of the best parts. It accompanys the action so well that you almost don't really hear it until you realize that you're tense. The music more than anything sets the mood.
Here's the quick lowdown on the gameplay:
Splinter Cell is only medium lengthed, but it's fairly difficult even on the normal setting and definitely packed full of 'action'. By action I mean thinking and waiting for the perfect moment to make your stealthy move. Even though you spend most of the game slinking about, I never felt that I was missing the rapid action of other third person games like Max Payne.
Also, the character reactions are humorous even if they all say the same series of things. Their terror-filled gasps when suddenly they see you standing right in front of them are the best. I laughed at loud several times. Furthermore, it was nice to hear Sam grunt as he exterts himself. His chest moves up and down to show he's breathing and just like a real shooter, he holds his breath to steady his aim when he snipes. Well done!
One downside is the forced training at the beginning. It's helpful the first time around, but annoying when you've already gone through it but want to play the game again on a different difficulty setting. It would be better if they made it an option instead of a requirement.
Finally, the replay value is minimal. I didn't see much of a difference between the normal and hard settings except that the enemies aren't as easily incompaciated by gas. Unless you want to play the same levels again and again to try to get by without once being seen, there's really no point to playing a second time.
Bottom line: I love this game and wish it didn't crash on me as much as it does. I look forward to the sequel.
Better than Expected!

I really love this game. It's not your typical "shoot-em-up" type of shooter, it's a get in and out before you're noticed. It's challenging, but not to the point where you hate the game because you can't get past one part. You learn to stay in the shadows. Your tools become very important as you progress in the game. I really think the news broadcast adds a little to the game, and make it unique. It almost does look like a news broadcast. I would recommend this game to anyone who is tired of the "shoot-em up" games and would like to try something a little more challenging! Oh ya, be sure you hide the bodies ;)

take it from me...
This is one of the best games I have ever played in my life. Period. This is one of those games that is just plain fun. Many games, like James Bond, is very unrealilistic because you don't sneak around that much, you kill everyone you see and you can carry unlimited weapons. Tom Clancey is a stickler for reality so he and Ubi Soft have made one kick but game.

I got the demo of splinter cell in pc gamer (witch is a good pc magazine for games) and i can not stop playing it i have beaten it on normal and hard, I am so going to get this game the only problem is that it dosen't tell you all the moves that he can do like in the pc game how do you roll? It dosen't tell you! i love it that you can put guns to peoples heads although i want to be able to choke them to death! i mean come on! that kind of ... but oh well it's still a game that you should get but you need a good grafic card or else it will look bad. Anyway I spy on people outside and this is just like real life sept for when you die you can't come back to life just by loading the game back up ha ha ha download the demo if you don't beleve me. but i'm going to get the game.
