the graphics are under par, the opening sequence ..., and the play control is the worst yet on the gamecube.
Rent first.

Controls, controls, controls. The downside to this game and what makes this game a bust is the horrible controls. The specific problems with the controls are when moving up hillpaths you have to steer with one joystick and move with the other and your vision is blinded from below when trying to jump across gaps. Your never really feel comfortable when moving around critical corners ALWAYS having to point the joystick down on the run during jumps. The original N64 joystick configuration on the original Turok Dinosaur Hunter was the best. The controls enforced forward and backward movement and left to right strafing with the yellow buttons and pointing up or down with the joystick. Why couldn't the Cube's version retain those superior controls. In the end, I felt the graphics were a disappointment, the dinosaurs looked blocky, their designs regressed making the N64 original seem light years better. The AI is not as good as the original and the tension of the game with a sense of always on the alert for enemies is lacking in this title. The Gamecube was not maximized to its potential with this title, I guess the wait for a better Turok will come with the next Nintendo game system some four years away or so. Bottom lime, save your money, rent this title instead and buy Star Fox Adventures, Super Mario Sunshine, soon to be release Metroid Prime and Attack of the Clones instead.
Don't Even Think About Buying This Game

I've played every Turok game since the first one on the Nintendo 64. I loved the first one. The second one was okay. The third one was confusing. And the fourth installment was really just for multiplayer purposes and there were sooo many other games with a single player mode also that were so much better. So the Turok series was going downhill.
However, I saw clips of Turok Evolution and I was thinking 'Oh Dear Lord, this game is going to be so good!' And guess what the guy at EB told me when I bought it. "You have 15 days to return it." I returned it in four days. Not only is the single player so limitted to its graphics and weaponry, but so is the multiplayer.
No matter what your reason may be for buying this game, don't. For your child, your friend, for yourself. Stick with the original Turok like I did

I love first person shooters, and when I saw some of the screen shots for the new Turok game I was excited. I rented this game last weekend and I was thourghly disappointed. First, the game takes forever and a day to load up, which I have never experienced before on a console. Second, while the graphics are not bad, they are not a great use of the gaming systems capabilities. As for the game play, well, it's horrible. It takes one forever to get used to the controls and then the play is unispiring and boring. The game goes from insanely difficult and times to just plain easy. The AI is also sometimes too hard, then just too easy. I did not like the flow of the game or it's style. While I did not get to use the multiplayer function, I'm assuming it to not be bad, so this maybe a good rental, but if you are looking for a good first person shooter, don't get this.
This game is simply aweful

I got this game looking forward to a good first person shooter and what I got was a game with some of the worst controls I have ever experienced, along with graphics that were worse than the older version of the same game. Not only that I thought the story was totally underdeveloped and everything about this game screamed, "we need a first person shooter out now, dont worry about the details just finish it!!!" Overall I would not suggest this game to my worst enemy it is that bad for me. I am willing to learn to deal with tricky controls but this game frustrated me to no end.
Great Game, but Too Expensive

This game gets extremely difficult but all the while fun. If you're into gore then you'll love it. If you're not, well you will still like the multiplayer and the weapons which are fun to mess with. You will also be surprised with how smart the enemies are. This game is not a fifty dollar game but I would pay $29.99 for it. I give it 3 stars. I like this game!
What is with the controls????

The game itself is amazing. Cool waepons, a great multiplayer mode, amazing AI etc..., but the controls are impossible to get the hang of unless you spend a couple of hours messing around. I have been playing games for 14 years now and it makes me mad when the programmers put this much effort into a game and then screw up the whole experience by designing the worst control concept I've ever seen. (it would be 5 stars were in not for the controls)
Trust me, RENT THIS GAME FIRST.
Good Potential...BUY (maybe)

For PS2 or XBOX I'd give this game about 3 STARS (3.7 Stars on a REAL 1 to 5 scale) The main thing is that on XBOX and PS2 you can choose the control button configuration that you prefer to use or are good at using. On Gamecube you are stuck at using the one they give you or you can just reverse the way they give you. But the game with that exception is a 3.7 stars. I suggest buy it for XBOX. Or maybe PS2. But if you can't get an XBOX than if you can live with the controls it's worth BUYING, IF you don't have any better First Person Shooter games. If you do have some other shooter games that are as good as Halo or even on that level I say rent it and then decide for yourself if you got to have it or if renting it will do it for you.

Turok: Evolution is a surprisingly decent single and multiplayer experience. Its biggest highlights are some solid level designs and the inclusion of threatening dinosaurs. Unfortunately, this first-person shooter is marred by ridicuously long load times and some minor control issues. If you can pick Turok up at a bargain price (not offered here), it's actually worth getting. However, your money is far better spent on something like Timesplitters 2.
