Despite owning all three current consoles, and warming up slowly to XBox the Nintendo GameCube dominates my living room. Nintendo's lunchbox sized console already has a whopping twelve games in my collection (PS 2 has 8, and XBox has 4 in contrast.) GameCube also has far more games that I'm looking forward to than the other two consoles. The only real problem that Nintendo has is its lack of advertising, and its reputation for kiddy oriented games... like Mario Sunshine.
The storyline of Mario Sunshine (and title) seem as though it was intended for a four year old, but then you get into the game play which is definitely too challenging for a younger player. Mario Sunshine is the most difficult Mario game to come out in a very long time, and that makes it great! Sadly this challenging little masterpiece has a couple of problems with it. Fist of all, all of the levels are tropical themed, we don't have the multi-world set up past Marios have had, no hot lava levels, no ice worlds, etc. I also miss the Mario Karate of Mario 64, and I miss it badly. The game is a blast, and no GameCube owner should be without it, whether a kid or an adult, because both younger players and adults will appreciate it, perhaps for different reasons. Little kids may actually enjoy the story elements, while adults will appreciate this masterpiece of a challenging platformer. I still like Mario 64 better though. Hopefully the next Mario game will have the Mario Karate, and Luigi... split screen two player mode, etc.
Awesome from age 5 to 40

After doing a fair amount of research as to which game to get for my 5 year old son, I decided to get Mario Sunshine. Nine months later, we still haven't finished the game but have spent countless hours laughing hysterically and having a ball. I have spent many nights, after putting him to bed, playing until the wee hours. This game can be difficult and frustrating at times, but keep plugging away and eventually you'll come across something. We got pretty far into the game and got a bit stumped. I bought the Mario Sunshine program guide which will help you through every stage (if you need help). We have a renewed interest and can see the light at the end of the tunnell. I highly recommend this game.
THE BEST MARIO GAME YET!!!

I have been waiting for this game for a long time. It looks much better than Super Mario 64 and longer. The graphics are awesome and it is the first time in the Mario series where Mario and other characters talk. I heard them talking in movie clips and it sounded just as I expected Mario and Peach to sound like. The game begins where Mario 64 left off as Mario, Peach and Toad are taking a vacation to Dolphic Island (shaped like a Dolphin). In the plane they're all dreaming about what they're going to do, when all of a sudden the plane screeches to a halt because of a giant M created of muck on the runway. The villagers of Dolphic Island quickly spot Mario and accuse him of polluting the island. They go to court for a while and even though Peach tries to object, Mario is sentenced to clean up the whole island with a water hose attached to his back. The only part I didn't agree with is that after court in the jail cell, the water hose talks to Mario and it sounded really weird. Anyway, Mario discovers that a fake Mario made out of water has really been polluting the island and sets out to figure out who this water Mario is. The 30 or so movie clips that I have seen (courtesy of ...) are amazing and the levels are huge. You can play as Yoshi who changes the music like in Super Mario and he changes colour depending on what fruits you eat. He also spits out fruit juice at his enemies. The final boss looks great but the frame rate takes a dive for the worst. THE NEXT THING I AM ABOUT TO SAY IS A SPOILER SO DO NOT READ ON IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THIS: the final boss is Bowser following a mechanical Bowser. This is all I know. I can't wait for this game to be released. I suggest that you pre-order this game because it's going to be sold out once it hits the shelves.
You people are all crazy! Why all the reviews?

I read about 10 reviews and they all say "I can't wait to play the game." Why don't you review the game AFTER YOU'VE PLAYED IT... not before!
The best.

MArio is back in the latest gamecube adventure. You all probably know about the story. But a part of the story tat you don't know about is that the pollution is causing monsters to form. The game is not a other MArio 64 clone. You use a water pump to kill enemies. Just because it's 3d doesn't mean it's the same. It's even funner than MArio 64. I'm even more excited about this than Zelda (GC).
I'm also sick of these people who have never played it give it one star. One of them said that it was the same as mario 64. But if you have ever plaed it then you will tell it's kind of familiar but also alot different. If you have a Gc and you don't wanna get GC, why did you get GC?
another great game from Nintendo

At first i thought that this game was going to be stupid, i mean come on Mario with a water gun, where's the fun in that. It isn't until you have played this game that you really discover how much fun this game can be. In fact its the reason im going to buy a gamecube. The gameplay is so dead on and it just runs so smooth. Mario is now like an extension of my thumb. It's a vast improvement over Mario 64, the graphics are sharp and very detailed throughout the game, making it easy on the eyes. For those gamecube owners striving for new great titles this is it. And the games will keep coming. Sunshine looks to be another great example of how games should be made, and Mario is always the one to set that bar one step higher. If you can remember Mario 64 was one of the first games to recieve 10 out of 10's and 100%'s from magazines he's a new age pioneer for video games and he always brings the goods. It'll be interesting to see what they rate this one. Kudos to Nintendo for a great game that everyone can enjoy.
Don't listen to the disapointments, this game is so fun!

You probably know the story so I won't write that. The levels in game are amazing. You'll be walking around on beaches, parks, cities, and much more. The best part about the game is the water. First of all it's a lot easier to swim that it was in Super Mario 64. The water looks amazingly realistic. The ripple and wave effect make it even cooler. The moves are also awesome. There's no backflip, but they fixed the walljump which makes everything easier. There's also a lot of classic mario gameplay in here. If you're getting a gamecube soon or have one, buy this game!

I got a Gamecube about 3 months ago and I bought a lot of games to play I was so excited and this game was the first I picked out to play. I've been playing this game ever since I got it. It is so much fun but alittle hard. It does have a good storyline (strange) but good. It is very difficult to find all the shine sprites and sometimes when you do find them it's hard to figure out how to get them. There is alot of gameplay in this game. I had to get the official strategy's guide for this game though. But this game is awesome when you finally get past certain parts of the game. I'm still working on it when I have time. It would be great for kids as well but adults might have to help them out abit. Depending on there age. This game is one of the best mario games to play. Go buy it it's fun. If you like a challange you'll get one in this game!!!!!!!!!!
Challenging and classic plumber action!

Seriously this was a challenging game. I mean you may not think so but have you tried to collect every shine. Ive beaten the game and only have 86 out of 120. There are two secret shines in each level plus collection of 100 coins PLUS collecting all the blue coins. This is also a really fun game and i would compare it to mario 64 because it's just as good just with FLUDD. Actuallly im disappointed with the fact they have that strapped onto his back. thats not really classic mario. same with luigis mansion. they have a vacuum on his back. anyways the only other downfall about this game is the final boss. It was soooooo easy. bowser has never been so tame(he must be getting old) anyways a must for gamecube. merry christmas!
Nintendo is ruining the Mario name

The Mario franchise should probably have been retired before the Game Cube was invented. This is by far the worst Mario game and coupled with the disaster that is Luigi's Mansion, it makes me seriously consider never buying another Mario title. I was probably spoiled by Mario 64, but Super Mario Sunshine is a long, tedious journey through a bunch of worlds which are basically the same.
Every world is simply a brightly colored land with the same enemies. There are no cleverly desgined worlds like there were in 64.
The premise is silly. The people of Delfino have lost their sunshine and need to find shines to help bring it back. Yet a large number of the shines are in the possession of the people! If they had them all along then they weren't missing! The "people" are extremely annyoing creatures. They want you to clean up their land by spraying it, but don't want to get wet. Just plain silly.
Some of the adventures take a little while to figure out what you need to do. But unlike in Mario 64, there are no explanations of what you need to do. There are puzzles you need to solve just like in 64, but no explanation of the puzzles, nor is there a mention that you're even supposed to be doing a puzzle. And in the game there is a LOT of waiting. For instance, when fighting a boss, they may fly out of your reach, but rather than coming right back it can be several minutes before they're in reach. Meanwhile you just have to sit and be bored.
Some of the adventures in S.M.S. are indeed fun, but the designers too often resorted to making things take an extremely long time in an attempt to make them difficult. No strategy, just tedium. Skip this game and go play Mario 64 from the beginning again for a great Mario experience. Mario fans like me will be sorely disappointed.
