I only rented this game a couple of days ago, but so far I have gotten a nice picture of what it is. This is the very first RE(chronologically) in the series. It has all the stuff of the other RE versions, including the mansion and the lab. First the complaints, and then the pros.
***Complaints***
1.The "partner" system.
It's not that there is a partner that I dont like, its that they are overly used. I found myself switching between characters constantly. You can set your partner to stay put, or come with you as a team. You can tell them to help in battle, or do nothing, but that is all. Each has a special ability. Billy can push or lift things Rebecca can't. This is used WAY too much and almost all of the puzzles use the buddy system.
2. Excessive backtracking.
I know this is common in the RE games, but you only get 6 item slots, and many of the weapons take two slots to carry. Then you need 2 spaces for ammo, and your handgun, which leaves you one space for an item. There is no way to expand your storage, like insome other versions by picking up a utility pouch like in RE2. Problaby my biggest problem is that there is no item boxes, but to make up for that you can "drop" things. I have left all sorts of things all over the place. On the map, though, it tells you where you left them so backtracking is a little easier. But it was a bad move to ditch item boxes.
3. Too short
Even thought this game needs 2 Cd's, I have heard that there is overall less than 7 hours of gameplay if you know what youre doing.
4. More of the same.
This game is just like all the other RE ones, but prettier. The train is a new thing to try and break it up a little. You still go through the mansion, get to the lab, and beat the final virus-beast. I will get a lot of disagreements here, but I thing the next RE should be completely REdone with a different scenario, different characters, and something NEW. I feel that the existing RE scenario is just getting old and worn out.
***Complements***
1/2. Audio/video.
All I can is WOW. The graphics are awesome, maybe even a little better than the REmake. I didn't see any slowdown during the game at all. Everything looks real.
As for audio, the music is fitting and is placed well. SFX are very real and convincing. However, there is a lack of music in much of the game and SFX take over.
3. A nice deep story.
Even though the story is old and getting worn out, it is still nice. I'm saying that it is a good story, not that I like it.
4. A few good scares.
There is certinaly a few good scenes where you will jump out of your seat, but a lot less than the REmake.
Well, the game barely broke even. A nice game, but not without its shortfalls. A solid rent, maybe two, but think twice about a buy. It looks awesome at first on the train, but I was dissapointed when I had to go through the mansion again, like in the other ones. Please think about buying this game before you do it.
Shameful

Resident Evil Zero did not live up to its hype. Graphic wise I think its great but gameplay can get boring at times. Some parts meay leave you stuck looking for puzzle answers instead of having some action. If you haven't played any Resident Evil game or Eternal Darkness then I suggest that you play ED first before playing RE0 just so you could appreciate a good game. - Another note, when you don't make use of bullets effieciently the game is pretty much over, while on the other hand in ED you can always use magic, swords, maces ect.
this game was awsome just becasue it was very diffcult

no item boxes, stupid 2-person partner system that will kill your partner and end the game easy even if you are the mack dad. i bought a gamecube for this??? after alienating us all by giving nintendo the exclusive rights to the best game franchise, this really is the nail in the coffin for capcom and the RE series. the graphics are amazing though. i'm not slagging this of for no reason either, i am the biggest RE fan in the world.
Oh No!!!!!!!!!

The Re remake scared me so badly. I have seen some of the pictures of the new RE0 and it looks so much more freakier and looks like it offers tons more stuff. I am buying it the day it comes out.
BRING IT ON

Any comment I may add is only a drop in the sea of the RE fans thoughts, but I do like to point out that going back to the real beginning is so .....I have no words to describe it except I'm drooling for the idea that I'll be plying in where it all started...I cant wait for it to come out.
0 is the bomb!!!

Resident Evil 0 is a step above Resident Evil Remake for a lot of reasons:
1. Item Boxes are gone - you can leave items anywhere you want in this game. But there is a minor problem with this because if you drop an item somewhere and you need later than you have to backtrack and find it.
2. Partner Zapping - This is totally awesome. You can play with two characters at a time and follow their story together. You will need do this often in order to solve puzzles in the game.
I haven't gotten very far only since I got it on the 13th. I'm still on the train.
Graphics 5.0/5.0 - The graphics are awesome. Curtains blowing from the wind and bottles moving about the train floor. It looks awesome. Plus there is no pause in the cutscenes like there was in Res Evil.
Control 4.5/5.0 - I'm giving it this high of a score becuase I am used to the controls and they don't bother me. Some people who have never played will complain because they are not use to it.
Fun Factor 5.0/5.0 - What's more fun than wasting zombies or blowing dogs out of the air with your handgun.
There are also plenty of new enemies including the scorpion, leeches, leech zombie (which you'll have to see for yourself) and many others.
I would definitely recommend RE0 to anyone. And it's ONLY on Gamecube.
let the darkness flow once again

THE GOOD:
Capcom has out done themselves again this new chapter in the ongoing resident evil saga, but this has got to be one of the best. First off charater design is great Rebecca has never looked better, and Billys look isn't to bad either. Also this new partner system makes boss battles/ random battles allot more fun, but sometimes annoying (just to let you know if billy or rebecca dies even if your not in control of them its game over). So with the new partner system they of course had to make the monsters stronger and capcom really did well here, human leeches to lurkers (a huge frog monster), they're all annyoing and super strong (be sure to pack some moltivo when fighting a human leech), but ofcourse all your old favorites from the original are lurking around somewhere. And of course like all resident evils the bonuses for beating the game always make you wana replay the game. Some of the bonuses are *leech hunter mini game, submachine gun, rocket launcher with infinate amo, special costumes, *infinite hand gun, *infinite hunting gun, *magnum revolver with infinate amo, *infinate amo all guns (bonuses with *are unlocked with leech hunter mini game.
THE BAD:
Nothing to bad but some people who are new to playing resident evil don't like the controls. The weapon diversity isn't as good, although they did add in moltivo, we've seen everything else. some new weapons or perhaps bringing some other weapons from RE2, RE3 or RE code veronica would really spice things up. Theres nothing like mowing down zombies with a chain gun right?
SUMMARY:
Another great addition to the resident evil story. I hope capcom will use this partner system again.
Ms. Chambers, I presume

This game remains true to the series, pumping the game full of cheap, yet frightening scares, an interesting plot and hordes of vicious monsters. The new character switch is a treat. Unfortunately, the video game is somewhat short. Not as good as the Resident Evil Remake for Gamecube, but incredibly enjoyable nontheless.
An excellent game, but not without flaws

Resident Evil Zero plays out like Night of the Living Dead. You're thrust into a world surrounded by zombies and low on ammunition. The survival horror aspect of the game is flawless, and no other series can rival the Resident Evil series in this respect. Yet, flaws such as tedious puzzles and awkward control which have plagued other Resident Evil games, affect this one as well. Difficulty in turning corners can cause numerous frustrating deaths, and most puzzles feel as if they're the same puzzle as the one you just completed, only with a slight superficial twist.
Resident Evil Zero is still a great game though, and anyone who has enjoyed the other games in the series, or just likes a good adventure should p ick up Resident Evil Zero.
