LOWER YOUR PRICES!

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 3 / 6

Come on! We should NOT have to pay $149 for just one videogame! I know RE2 is a good game overall, but LOWER YOUR PRICES! We can all get the PSOne version for only $13 (or even lower!) and the Gamecube ones are the SAME as those anyway, except for different controls. Then there's those who don't even HAVE a PSOne but a Gamecube and this is the only way they can get this and RE3. But they shouldn't have to pay more than $30 to buy these great games! You should either lower the damn price or I guarantee you're not getting any sale!

This blows

There was like a million resident evil games and which more are coming out. What's the concept. Go around kill zombies, Takes forever, and don't be goin over your friends house to watch him play this because you'll fall asleep after your tenth heart attack after drinking soda. We were at my friends birthday party and all he did was sit there and play this until we flipped out on him and begged him to do something more social.

What the heck!?55 bucks!?!?!??

Ridiculous...you can buy a Playstation for 15 bucks, and a RE2 game for only 7 or 8 bucks at any store. This is a pathetic attempt to capitalize off of idiots. DO NOT BUY THIS!!!You can buy it for N64 for a very cheap price as well, and the graphics are the same. As far as I know they didn't really change anything about this game. I just cannot believe they are chargine so much money for this, RE3, and code veronica-X, unbelievable. This is a great game, if you buy it for PS1/PS2, or N64. I would rather play it on PS1 anyway, it has a more classic, old school feel to it. Anyway, if you are dumb enough to actually dish out 55-200 bucks for this game, be aware you are ripping yourself off.

Don't be an idiot!

First of all, I am not a kid. Second of all, you should know that unlike RE1 for the game cube, this is not a remake, just a port! So, if you liked the remake of RE1, forget about buying this version of RE2. Nothing can justify this! I highly reccomend the PC version if you don't have a Playstation.

Just Plain Lazy

What is the point. Capcom goes to all the trouble of giving the original Resident Evil a face life and then they just decide to get lazy and port the game to GCN?
What is the logic of paying $40- $50 on a game that has no new improvements,
no added storyline or features of any kind, a graphics that are archaic by today's standards? You can probably find it on Ebay for $5 - $10 for PS1.
Total Rip off.

Unless you don't have the original don't get this.

I had so much fun with Resident Evil 2 in late 1998. It was one of the scariest, hearthrobing, pants wetting experience of all time back then. Keyword: Back then. Don't get me wrong, Resident Evil 2 is an awesome game but buying this version isn't like going to the store and picking up Final Fantasy Anthology vs. paying 80 dollars for the original SNES cartridge. YOU CAN STILL FIND RE2 ON THE PSX AND BUY IT FOR LESS THAN 40 DOLLARS!

RE2 isn't a bad game but with the overhaul re-release of Resident Evil 1, it would've been great to see RE2, the best one in the series, get the same makeover. Well, it didn't. This is a direct port of the original PSX version. It runs smoother on the gamecube but the graphics remain the same and all the elements of the gameplay remain the same as well.

Usually a port or rerelease has something to tweak it up a bit. Maybe add in a small bonus or even just smoothen out the graphics. But the re-release of RE2 does no such thing.

This is bad, especially for RE2. In 1998 this was the scariest game of all time! When this was re-released the fear that was in the game is wasted and gone. You won't jump anymore or anything like that. IF you don't have the PSX version and you don't have a PSX or PS2 then you can get this game. If you have a PSX but don't have the game then get it on PSX instead. The 40 dollar price tag is too expensive for a game that the exact version can be found with ease.

Resident Evil 2 for the Gamecube

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 3 / 4

Resident Evil 2 is easily one of the most fun and enjoyable games that has come out in the past decade. It scares you enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, but the difficulty level is set exactly right so it doesn't get you frustrated. Not to mention that both of the playable characters have two missions, and once you complete those, there are several different gameplay modes rewarded to the player for completing the missions. This enhances the game's replay value quite dramatically.

So assuming that you have played this game on the original Playstation, I bet you're wondering what is different about the port offered on the Gamecube?

Well, disappointingly enough, not much. The RE2 port is just that - a port. Naturally, however, the Gamecube is a much more advanced system capable of handling much faster polygonal rates, shading, texture, and load times. The overall look is a bit smoother, but not enough to make you say "wow!". More like "hmmm...interesting". The blood is not so polygonal, and the characters are a bit smoother. If there really is any difference in the load time, it is minimal. The controls are about as good as the original - pending that you can get used to the game on a Gamecube controller. The CMVs are not changed at all. Nothing smoother, nothing overdubbed, nothing brighter or duller, not faster or slower. This can either be a curse or a blessing for you, depending on how devoted you are to the original CMV's, as the CMVs are identical to the Playstation's in every way.

So while I can't really justify owning a copy of Resident Evil 2 for the Gamecube, I would recommend it to anybody who has never played the game or does not have access to the PS version of it. Resident Evil 2 is a great game, and it continues to hold its value even to this day. If Capcom would have just done the same thing for RE2 and RE3 that they did for the original, I think we would have probably the best series in history on our hands. However, CAPCOM got lazy and decided to port the rest of the titles. Too bad, so sad.

So to sum it up, if you currently own Resident Evil 2 for the Playstation, save your money because the Gamecube version is really not all that much better.

Original game rating and contents = 9/10

"lazy" Gamecube port rating = 2/10

final score on the re-release for the Gamecube = 4/10

Resident Evil 2 for Game Cube is a huge let down

The title pretty much says it, but basically after playing RE1, which I had never played before GC, I was instantly hooked on the game and naturally wanted to check out the others in the series. Unfortunately, in part 2 nothing was done to remake the game, the game looks like an old super nintendo game, the graffics are weak and very 2-D. The sound is not much better, and after playing an extremely challenging RE1 which took a good 2 months to beat, I was sadly able to beat RE2 in 1 week. And this is significant as I am NOT a gamer, so if I can beat it in one week, a true gamer probably would beats this thing in 8 hours. Here are my ratings by category: Graffix 2/5, Sound 3/5, Game Controls 4/5, Over-all 2/5. Don't waste your money on this, if you really love the RE series, rent this one.

I have it. After beating Resident Evil Zero & the remake of the first, I wanted to jump right in on GC's RE2. There are slightly faster frame rates and a different use of controls to support the GC's controller. That's all.

The RE2 PlayStation Dual Shock Version with the original and rearranged data is the same as this passed off port. I don't need to review the game itself, it is another chapter in the saga that is well-known to fans.

If you don't have a PlayStation1 or 2, then this is a solid buy. If you've never played RE2 and don't have the PS, it is a solid buy again. Whoever is making up the stories about the better graphics or a remake is fooling you.

Don't get me wrong, RE2 is a great game, but it is a port. Graphics, game, content and all. I rated it 3 stars because of the marketing tactic. The original PS version is a 4.5 star game. You'll notice that this review will be posted on Nemesis (RE3) as well because Capcom did the same with that one.
