The same, but different

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 3

Fellow RE fans take note: RE2 for the GC is the same as the PS1 and the Dreamcast versions as far as gameplay and plot. However, the GC does offer a very slight improvement on graphics and processing speed. The graphics seem to be a little smoother than the PS1 and Dreamcast versions but the processing speed is the most noticeable improvement. The doors open and close faster, your character runs and interacts with his/her environment quicker and, in some instances, the zombies are quicker as well.
I've read the other reviews and have to conclude they really aren't as experienced with RE as they should be. "Bog Down" times are minimized in this edition. Anyone who's played these games religiously will know what I'm talking about.
The game is damn fun to begin with. This one is just that much "funner". CAPCOM didn't screw us, trust me.
And check out the automatic "PAUSED" mode that activates when you don't move for 60 seconds, and the in-game "Read Claire/Leon" options, which are totally unavailable in the PS1 and Dreamcast versions.
Yes, this is an upgrade, albeit a small one. But the game is still damn fun.

Just Plain Lazy

What is the point. Capcom goes to all the trouble of giving the original Resident Evil a face life and then they just decide to get lazy and port the game to GCN?
What is the logic of paying $40- $50 on a game that has no new improvements,
no added storyline or features of any kind, a graphics that are archaic by today's standards? You can probably find it on Ebay for $5 - $10 for PS1.
Total Rip off.

just a port

First off, if you are hoping for better graphics, then you will be disappointed. The graphics are exactly the same as the PSone version. Other than that, this is a great game and any true resident evil fan (like myself) should get this. If you haven't played the PSone version and own a gamecube, then you should try the entire series also.

resident evil 2, a flop? i don't think so.

Okay, so it's a port. A genius port. And, yes, there are slightly rounded out, SLIGHTLY better graphics. Let's be serious, Capcom tried to cash in on this, but I think it came out for a good reason. Who wants to play a PS2 anyway with a PSX game? Haha. Anyway, the only way for you to get the complete RE series is with the Nintendo Gamecube because of the RE remake and RE0. It's worth it, people. Yes, it's the same game. THE SAME GREAT GAME. And, if you get your hands on this rare, pricy gem, get RE3 Nemesis as well, pick up the others for a mere few bucks apeice (RE:$10, RE0: $12, RE4: $14, RECVX: $25 [rare.]) Why all the complaining? Buy if you're a Nintendo, RE, or just plain zombie fan.

Good but one thing is missing

i have RE2 for psx and it [has] great 2 people mini games fun gameplay awesome story. the thing is it is a port not a remake so your gettin nothin new. graphics are psx nothin takin advantage of GC. So if i did not have it for psx i would get it if it was cheaper like a 20 because it a port from an old last generation game.

Rip-off!

If you read any reviews about how this is a remake or how amazing the graphics are, those people are talking about the first RE, not RE 2. The first RE for GameCube is almost completely redone. RE 2 is nothing but a port, and a rip-off. I'm not kidding; in 1997, RE 2 on PSone sold for $50. In 2000, the Dreamcast version was $20. And now, in 2003, RE 2 for GameCube is $40. This game has no new extras. In fact, it's actually missing old extras. Now, if you want to check this game out, just rent it.

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND? A GAME FOR OVER $200 DOLLARS?

Hey this game is definitely a must have.. I know it came out for a limited time for the gamecube.. or I'd say.. they took it off the market because it wasn't worthy to pay $39.99 for a game with same graphics as the PS1 or N64... so.. think you ambitious people.. if people didn't want to pay $39.99 for the brand new videogame.. who on earth is going to pay $99.99 for a used one and $200 for a new one?? I hope nobody does.. you are totally taking advantage of the situation! YOU PEOPLE BUY A PS1 or a N64 with the game for less than $50.. the graphics are the same...no difference..

Resident Evil 2 for Game Cube is a huge let down

The title pretty much says it, but basically after playing RE1, which I had never played before GC, I was instantly hooked on the game and naturally wanted to check out the others in the series. Unfortunately, in part 2 nothing was done to remake the game, the game looks like an old super nintendo game, the graffics are weak and very 2-D. The sound is not much better, and after playing an extremely challenging RE1 which took a good 2 months to beat, I was sadly able to beat RE2 in 1 week. And this is significant as I am NOT a gamer, so if I can beat it in one week, a true gamer probably would beats this thing in 8 hours. Here are my ratings by category: Graffix 2/5, Sound 3/5, Game Controls 4/5, Over-all 2/5. Don't waste your money on this, if you really love the RE series, rent this one.

resident evil 2: the horror heats up

resident evil two is the sequal to the smash hit resident evil... in this sequal you are trapped in the town of racoon city, underground( RE 3 takes the above ground view. the sequance goes on about how a team of umbrelaa mercs take the g-virus from the creator of the t-virus william birkin. when birkin is shot the viruses are unleashed into the city.. as shuold happen claire and leon are just driving inot town.... to find the nightmare that binds them together...then tears them apart about two seconds afterward... this game is a action packed masterpiece that is only out done by nemesis. the weapons are few, but extremely fun. the gameplay action is hopefully better( the old way of aiming a firing is you take aim and rotate the slow character to aim at the creature) . the monsters are a definite must.... they should have added the hunters though....anyway.... this game is any horror gamers dream.... the game also maks it that when you beat the game with one of the two characters,.... you can save the end file and start with the opposite character, which starts from the begining but you are aplying while the other char. is playing(I.E. when claire raidos leon and you are leon you are about to fight the first form of the baddest boss.... but you are not playing the baddest boss.......but when you are claire you play the final boss as leon runs ...

Not a review... a rant

This game as well as RE3 for GC are STRAIGHT ports from the older games. The graphics and resolutions have been cleaned up some but there is NO new content like in the RE1 remake. Capcom first announced these games with a price of $.. and now they want people to pay double that for games that have nothing new and are several years old. I love the RE series and really want to have the complete set for GC but I can't justify paying nearly full price for straight ports. My advice is wait till these games come down in price.
