This game is the best star trek yet. The graphics for the demo are astounding! The frame rate isn't that bad when all the graphics settings are set to maximum! The storyline is incredibly immersive. You can interact with all the members of your team. Also, the levels are huge! Whereas in elite force 1 you would have to load a new stage every 10 minutes, in EF2 the stages that would normally take up 5 or so loads only take 1. Raven re-did all the graphics for the characters so everything looks super-realistic. I have a realitively low-end graphics card and the demo works fine. If the demo is any indication of what EF2 will be like, than this is going to be one of the best games of the year.

I am an avid elite force one fan. I beat the first game several times. So I guess i see some of the nuances that most ppl do not see of this game. Over all, the overall plot itself is a lot more elaborate and surprisingly much more believable the original. In this game, despite the love triangle, the character interaction is so much more one dimentional. I liked the fact that blessman was a jerk, chell was a fradycat, and tuvok was a jerk. In this game, Munro is just superman. I didn't feel as accomplished at the end when tuvok complimented me. Compared to vorsogh and harvasters, idral, romulans, and exomorphs are just so much more convensing enemies.
However, despite a more enhanced engine, I am mixed how much the art improved. I liked the fact that there as a lot more varaity of environment. compared to the first game. However, I just don't like the art style compared to the first game. The same way goes for the music style. The first soundtrack seemed much more trekish. Oh well.
As a game, yes slaughtering exomorphs over and over may be boring and overdone, but there is enough humanoid enemies for it to be forgivable.
Still this chapter in the star trek saga is definitely worth playing, and i recommend it to trekkers and non trekkers alike.

All in all this was a decent game. The atmosphere was good, and the graphics were much improved from the original Elite Force. The weapons and sounds were authentic to the series as well. So what, you may ask, is the reason I only gave it a 3? This is because it has poor replay value. I beat it in about 3 days and I don't really feel like going through again. Good game though, I liked it. If you're a Star Trek fan its a good game to check out.

I'm a diehard Trekkei and decided to get out of the orig. and into the next Gen., and MAN YOU GOT TO GET THIS BABY! I'm hooked and not moving an inch away from this one, thought the price is a bit high, but, it's STAR TREK!

Star Trek: Armada II is the funest Star Trek game that I have ever played. And as the Federation I have built lots os ships and stations. I also played as the Klingons and Borg in the campaigns. I like using the cheat code the makes it so none of you starships or stations get destroyed. I use the cheat code because I do not want my ships or anything else I build to get destroyed. I want to import other ships into the game. I give this game a five star rating!!!

The game was very well worked, I would say. Having to deal with metal, dilithium, AND crew and officer limits was a nice little challenge that makes the game just that much more difficult.
The numerous ship classes and their special abilities help with the strategic part of the game, as does putting your ships and stations on all three planes.
Being able to position your troops to fire special weapons on their own, have them follow enemies passing by their range of vision, and setting them on green red or yellow alert so they will or will not engage an enemy attacking them helps as well.
Having quick attack craft, long range artillery, and hit-taking ships help get the right mix when launching a large offensive or just setting up a good defense.
Armada 1 was a pretty big screw up, but this game nearly blew me away when I started playing it. I put it on an old 333 mHz machine with an old ATI Rage Pro and the graphics were still clean. The nebulas are almost hypnotizing in the way they flash and swirl. These nebulas help add to the game, stopping the warp, weapons, life support, and shield capabilities of ships, depending on which nebula your ship enters.
Overall, I think this game is a must have for any Star Trek or RTS fan. The campaign has some challenging levels, and when playing multiplayer having 6 races to play as and having gigantic maps full of planets, nebulas, and asteroid belts can push a person' strategic skills to the limits.

BAD NEWS FIRST As a great person once said "I feel like a puppet", I agree.
GOOD NEWS AND INFO-MATION!!! I say forget the single player missions and stick to multiplayer. A host can chose from a variety of scenarios to set his/her online game to. You chose 2-8 players, teams or free for all fed vs. non fed or starbase assault(attacking team or defending team). You can also chose the space conditions to play in, all the way from empty space to nebulas and solar systems (with planets and stars), you can even fly your ship through asteroids!!! As a host, you can set time limits and point limits if you want, or you can create continuing games. you can chose from over 15 different HIGHLY detailed ship models. (about half are federation), including the new "sovereign" class from the TNG movies!!! Players get to chose their team, so if one player is too good, other players can switch to the other team to even things out. With the 1.1 patch, a host can boot even BAN players if necessary. You can chose whatever name you want for your ship with out worrying about whether it's already taken or not, (For instance, I am the USS Coriscant, but there could be another or even 1,000 other USS Coriscants out there, in this game you don't have to be like Enterprise1435 or im1ofmany)!!! Ships have the capability of "ramming" each other, and thanks to a masterful job on ship model sizes, accurately enough if you pick a Rumaluan Warbird and ram a Galaxy class, the huger Warbird will damage the other ship far more than itself. One thing that really pleases me is how well activision did with the ships weapons, shields, and hulls. they are all VERY accurate to star trek with virtually no exemptions. Romulans and Klingons can cloak ( while they are cloaking and when they decloak, [you can only cloak for a fixed amount of time] they are more vulnerable to attack as their shields temporarily are lowered for cloak. Galaxy class ships have 6 proton torpedo tubes, Sovs have 6 quantum torpedo tubes, both have 4 in front and two in back. You can only shoot a particular weapon if you have a phaser bank, photon torpedo tube etc. in the right area of your ship, facing your opponentýs ship!!! Different races have different weapons, Ex) Klingons have disrupters and torpedoes, depending on class and "Kessoks" have ion beams and positron torpedoes. Torpedoes can run out, beam weapons don't. Almost all ships systems and subsystems can be damaged(inoperable but repairable) or destroyed (irreparable). Some ships like Romulan Warbirds have tough hulls (24 hull strength) and weak shields, and some have strong shields (sovs) and weak hulls (16 strength) strong shields are good for short attacks followed by retreating and allowing shields to grow back (and enemy to repair, these ships are normally fast enough to get away to recharge since the are light hulls) and strong hulls are good for long attacks that can take out an opponent after only one try, these ships are not good when there are too many opponents picking away at you especially since ships with strong hulls are generally very slow and can not easily escape once they have attacked the enemy. You only get points by destroying a ship with WEAPONS, not by ramming, but if your larger ship only damages the opponentýs by ramming it and is larger enough that it has not taken much damage to weapons, then you will still get the points if you can destroy it (which should be easier then before it was rammed since ramming a ship damages it's hull significantly). You can also destroy an enemy ship MUCH faster by disabling vital systems ( blowing the warp core instantly destroys a ship even if itýs hull is in perfect condition, but generally destroying the warp core takes a while and itýs health deteriorates only slightly faster than the hull integrity, once the hull is destroyed the ship is also) or defenses such as shooting the rear torpedo tubes and not only damaging them ( their health bar turns gray), but destroying them ( their health bar disappears from the list) then chasing the ship from behind where it can't shoot back!!! An enemy may shoot your subsystems too, if you see one damaged ( it shows up as a yellow icon on your ship's display), see if it is an area you care about (things like tractor beams may not matter to you), and if it is important have the engineer fix it ( it will come to the top of the list when selected from below, if it is already in the top and you click it, it will return below, only three systems or subs can be repaired at a time) if the icon is red, the system is destroyed and you'll have to live without it or press CTRL D (self-destruct) and pick a new ship!!! Protect you subsystems and systems by directing your best shields at you opponent when necessary, but when you have an opportunity to shoot your opponent you have to decide if its more important to protect yourself with that shield or take a risk and shoot you opponent even if you do expose a bad shield, ( sometimes, with a quick/maneuverable ship you can actually DODGE tracking torpedoes or evade disrupters which donýt have a good [if any I canýt tell] guidance system. The user interface is EXELENT, it took me about 2 days to become a master pilot(wellý.at least ýgoodý)!!!!!!!!!!!! Another great feature is the range of graphics. New computer or old, you can adjust the graphic setting and screen resolution for a clear smooth game on almost ANY reasonably advanced computer. Unlike StarFleetCommand (a game with a virtual 2D plane to play on) Bridge Commanderýs bonus z axis adds a whole new ýdimensioný to space sims!!!! KEEP TREKKINý GAMERS!!!! :)

Do you think you have what it takes to sit in the hottest chair on the bridge? This game will test that.
While it is a linear game, you do have a bunch of command decisions to make... which hostile ship do you target first... do you destroy it or just disable it... do you have any non-violent way to solve the problem... do you attack a ship with its shields down or hail it to talk to the captain first?
In a way, the linear nature of the game is good, because you see the consequences of your actions later in the game. The ship you don't shoot at early in the game might come back to help you later. Definitely not just a regular shoot-em-up.

I had been looking at SFC I for a long time. I had the Demo but wasn't sure about it. Then out came SFC II! As a Star Trek fan I love this game!!!! Finally a game that shows what it would be like if these majestic ships were real. Phasers, Photon Torpedoes, transporters, shields....There is a speed control for those that want a faster game. (I like the regular speed). This is s nice change of pace from FPS.

I play Age of Empires frequently, so when I started reviewing data on Armada 2, the similarities became obvious. Don't worry, I won't rant about a lot of the games problems( it's actually kind of comforting), just a little nitpicking thing: scaling among the ships. The Federation's Sovereign-class is roughly 700 meters long, while the Borg Cube is over 3 kilometers in height, length, and width. You do the math. Other than that, the game is SWEET. The ship classes all tend to have special weapons, which once researched, make for an interesting show when they enter battle. The map is filled with eye candy, the various objects and areas can be used to your advantage ( let's see your opponents warp directly into your base when it's built in the gravity well of a black hole!), and the super weapons, OOOOHHHH BOY!!!!!! Let's just say that they all have potential to take big chunks out of your opponent. A tactic that is REALLY fun is transporter attack; you beat on the shields of an enemy ship until they fail, then beam over crew members to try and take over the ship. NOTE: DOESN'T WORK ON SPECIES 8472. Also, I'm not too optomistic about this working on the Borg or the Klingon and Romulan super weapon ships. All and all, the game is gold.
