The first of its kind

Killer7 is about an assassin named Harman Smith, although you don't get to play as Harman that often you do get to play as one of his seven personas. The first is Dan Smith who uses a revolver and is a well balanced assassin. The next is Kaede Smith she is smaller and has less health than the others, but uses her blood to break barriers throughout the game. Next we have Coyote Smith a small time crook who can pick any lock and jump to uncany hieghts. Con Smith is the youngest of the 7 and also blind, he uses duel semi-auto pistols and has such great hearing that he can see rooms that others can not with his sonar like abilities. Mask De Smith is an ex-wrestler with duel grenade launchers and can blow holes straight through certain walls. Kevin Smith only has a knife, which might sound crazy, but if things get to tough he just turns invisible and go right around the danger. Now we get to Harman Smith he is old and has to use a wheel chair to get around, but don't let that fool you he has the powers of a 'God Killer' and is the only person capable of seeing the 'Heaven Smiles'. Garcian Smith is the 'Cleaner' of the group not best for the acctual missions, but if one of the other members dies, he can resurrect them, so he could be the most valuable player on the team. Heaven Smiles are your main enemy which are invisible to the naked eye, but Harman can spot them with out a problem. This is just a little taste of the game, to truly enjoy and understand what I am talking about you'll have to play it for yourself. Which I ensure you will not be a waste of your time.

Hurts, doesn't it?

As other reviewers have mentioned, playing Killer 7 isn't really like playing your average video game. There are puzzles to solve, but they're spelled out for you. There are areas to explore, but you can only move on a set path. There's a storyline to follow, but you might turn blue before you figure out what it all means. There are seven characters, but actually eight, though most of the time you only play as six. If it weren't for the game's first-person shooter mechanics (which again defy the norm by giving you unlimited ammo), you'd be hard-pressed to call this a video game at all.

Killer 7 is an experience. Sometimes bizzare, other times violent, always a tad frustrating. The distinct blend of cel-shaded graphics and anime-styled cutscenes is consistently impressive. Strong voice-acting gives life to all sorts of memorable characters, and the enemies come in all shapes, sizes, and colours. The controls, if very simplified, respond well and work to the game's advantage. Ever get tired of checking every door in an area to find the one that actually leads somewhere? Killer 7 only leads you to the areas you need to visit. Combine this with your character's fixed running speed, and Killer 7 controls your pace. You can't finish this title any faster than it allows you to. It's a fully controlled experience.

Where Killer 7 will likely frustrate many gamers is not the simplified controls; if you're old enough to play this title, you've probably played older games like Myst on which Killer 7 draws influence. It's the constant enemy respawning that bogs things down, because they come back after you leave a room. Most have to be killed over and over again as they're directly in your path. Should you die, the process of recovering your character's head is slow and tedious. And eventually the constant character switching, to solve puzzles and kill specific enemies, grows old.

Despite these gameplay flaws Killer 7 still manages to suck you into its world. It's a completely fresh experience that's never really been attempted before. There's a lot of profanity, violence and sexual elements going on here, but they serve the experience instead of pandering to the masses. This isnt a game little kids buy to show off to their friends, and even most of the target demographic will probably feel confused. But please give Killer 7 a shot, it's one of the strongest Gamecube/PS2 titles ever created.

Wierd, but fun to play

Well how can I start? Killer 7 is strange. But then that makes it unique, its a great change to your standard action game. The controls are easy use and pretty simple. I find it great fun to scan for enemies and then once I have got them in my sight I can blast the crap outta em'. Haha. The game is overall fun to play, although prehaps at times it can be a bit repetative but I never got bored of playing it. You may think the graphics are stange looking but they are pretty much the same as in many games. You also may not like the idea of pressing A to run and being on a 'fixed rail' instead of free roaming but you are able to turn around and go in different directions and normally in games when you are moving you are holding down button all the time anyway, so its really not that different.
You will meet numerous strange zombie-like monsters in the game, all rather different to eachover and will find all sorts of ways to harm you. Sometimes you will need to use skill, strategy and good aiming to take them down rather than just blastin' em to hell. There are puzzles in the game but I managed to solve em all. There are 7 characters to play as, each with a special abilty which sometimes you will be required to use in order to progress. This makes the game interesting aswell as enjoyable.
The storyline? Well... I never quite understood it. Still, this is a great game and if you like resident evil or silent hill then you will love Killer 7.

3 words to describe this : vulgar , reptetive , unique

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1

Killer7's main intention wasn't to create the best shooting game in the world. It was to create a unique game that is sure to offend some people and
freakishly charge up some. The graphics are cell shaded nicely. Making everything feel dark. This game is simple. All you do is walk, turn, fight, and solve puzzles. You are set to a limited trail to walk through. Not what I call "innovation", but it's different. Killer7 is about a man who is in a wheel chair and his assassins are his split personalities. Each has their own abilites and weapons. They can level up by collecting blood.

This game tries to be vulgar on purpose. The game tries to spray as much blood as possible. Almost every sentence in the game has a curse word in it. Whenever you defeat an enemy, your character will curse. Though, sometimes it tries too hard to be vulgar. But, that's the point. It's a game that was made intentionally to bug people out and please people of certain interest.

The shooting is weird. You have no ammo. It's pretty basic and the enemies can get repetetive. But, the story and cut scences can chain them all together well.

If you are looking for a no nonsense shooter which is fast and furious, this might not be for you. But if you are looking for a game which is unique and you get a kick out of disturbing content. Go for it. It's a hate it or love it title.

The Gamecube version is actually better!

I've owned the PlayStation 2 version of this game for a long time and recently purchased the Nintendo Gamecube version.
I have heard about how the Gamecube Killer 7 has better loading times, and smoother graphics, and I can confirm that. What I didn't realize is, a lot of cool little graphical effects are in the GC version and not on PS2.

Gamecube Killer 7
+ Load times and menu transitions are much faster.
+ Graphics and cut scenes are smoother looking.
+ Controller scheme is different, but it works really well.
+ Junction screen (when you choose a path) has a red tint and shattering screen effect, and when you choose your path the game does some strange blur and subtle psychotic effects.
+ Scanning enemies and the weak points look slightly different, but in a really cool way. You can tell this was how the game was meant to look.
+ Changing personalities is much quicker, and there are better particle effects, and the background fades in and out of color.
+ Changing the camera angle button actually swings the camera around you instead of just instantly switching so you can get a cool view.
+ Gameplay seems smoother and faster.
- The game is on 2 disks so you have to swap them, not a big deal really.

PlayStation 2 Killer 7
+ I like the PS2 Controller scheme better
- Jagged edges
- Gameplay slowdown and graphical glitches
- Pre rendered gamecube cutscenes
- Longer load times

If you haven't played this game, either version is great, but once you've played both versions you can really tell that it was made for Gamecube, it was meant to be played on that system. So keep that in mind, also if you don't have gamecube you can pick one up for 30 dollars nowadays, and you'll be able to play a lot of really cheap used awesome games.

For the actual review of the game you can look elsewhere, all I have to say is it's not a game for common people, but since when were "common people" experts on what's good. I don't like the same music or eat the same food as "common people", so why pick your video games based on what everyone else likes?

This is a very unorthodox video game that might be upsetting to you if you have some false expectations. I for one adore and treasure this game as unique gaming experience. It's confusing and trippy and sometimes hurts, other times you'll be frustrated or even board. But you'll come back for more again and again. If anything else this game is worth it just to see it in motion, it looks and sounds so incredibly different then anything out there. And if you actually try to get into the plot, you'll be really entertained, or just afraid.

Bottom line: it's worth the money and time to play through it at least once.

Sweet Christmas, this thing owns.

I could do this whole review by just saying "buy it", but that wouldn't be fitting. This game is unique, beautiful, emotionally touching, and a little creepy. And VERY fun. This is a must buy for any GCN or PS2 owner.

For fans of this, I also recommend Resident Evil 4, Motion City Soundtrack's "Commit" album, GoldenEye for the DS, and the show "Invader Zim".

This is a great game. It's an on-rail shooter, but with so much more. This game is strange, deranged, delusional. It's gory, psychotic, and artistic all in one. I would not recommend this for children, or for that matter some adults. Having played many, many, games with varying levels of gore and mature themes, I can tell you this game is probably the most mature game I've played on any system. It isn't rated mature because of the language, nor is there much sexuality. It's a mature subject matter and has a lot of non-realistic, yet very real and twisted gore.

Quite possibly the worst game ever!

This game will make you beg for a copy of bionicle. I played this game hoping for something similar to 13, but man was I in for a rude awakening. Art house craptacular. This game would be perfect if I decided to drop some LSD and blow my brains out after attempting to comprehend a pile of poop. "Hello master...you want to find some blood and soul bullets to make butterfly work for you." Beware! Buy only if you are a sadist!

Abstract fun

This game is wear... but its really interesting, like a bizarre movie, good history

The only thing decent about this game is its art style. Maybe.

As a game goes, it sucks. It really does scream to be put down. The story and voice acting is equally terrible. All in all, I'd have to say this was the worst game I've ever played. Unfortunately though, I've also played Cubivore, which ends up in a tie with this one for worst game ever as well.
