If you have played Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, you'll find that Harvest Moon: Magical Melody is immensely better. While the graphics may not be "realistic," the "cutesy" graphics are a part of Harvest Moon's legacy, and fit the mood of the game. There is plenty to do in the game to keep you from getting bored. You can farm, fish, mine for jewels and other things, go to a variety of festivals, become friends with other villagers, and much more! You now have a rival, which for all you competitive people like myself, will give you just another reason to keep playing. The layout of the town and controls have a slightly different feel than previous Harvest Moon games. At first it might seem like the town is too big or the controls are a bit tricky, but it's easy to quickly figure out where everything is in the town and the controls really aren't that complicated. Overall, HM: Magical Melody makes up for a lot that was missing in HM: A Wonderful Life, and offers great things new and old to the Harvest Moon series.
HOLY CRAP!!

Hi, my sister got this for her 9th birthday and we LOVE it! If your a boy you can chose one of the 11 girls to be your wife. (Including meany Jamie!) And if your a girl you can chose one of the 10 boys to be your husband. (I picked Kirt!) And then later in the game you get a baby! There's a new farm member to, A pig! And you can keep him in your house :) The game play is really good and the grafics are great! It's a little more cartoony than Harvest moon a wonderfull life but I kinda like it that way! When the game starts there's not much people in the town and it's hard to find your way around but as the game progresses much more people move in and you can find your way around easily. Theres also a lot more festivals in the game to. And mini games. And the town is pretty big. Overall this game is great and you should get it!

This game isnt any ordinary Harvest Moon game it lets you do what you want and lets you act like who you really are. This game is full of plenty of things to do. In this Harvest Moon title theres no way you'll be limited to the same old raise a farm and do your daliy crop raising activitys. In this wonderful new title called Harvest Moon: Magical Meldody, you can be who you feel like, mabey a social butterfly or a hard working cowboy you chose. During the game you can chose three differnt plots of land having on mind that later on you can buy more land if needed. Once settled you can pick being a boy or girl. In the game there is a story plot that tells about how the harvest goddess was turned to stone and with your help by finding the missing musical notes she will turn back into her regular form. If your starting to wonder if thats it and then the games over you are wrong very wrong. Helping the harvest goddess only something to do in your spare time, because when your not working your socializing and when your not talking with friends your findng food to eat and doing all the other great things that us fans have come to love about Harvest Moon. In conclusion if your looking for a game with farming, socializing, and just having a plain out good time then Harvest Moon: Magical Melody is your game, have fun!
This is such a fun game!

This is the best harvest moon ever! I like how you can pick where you want to live, and it's so cool how you can buy property and what's realy nice about this one is how you have to buy your chicken coop and your barn and some of your furniture. I also like the mini games that you can play with four people. This is a very fun game!!

Despite this game being hailed as the greatest in the series to date, Magical Melody has its share of problems.
But first, the pros:
- addictive (if you can bear not leaving the house for a few weeks, then this game offers everything you need)
- goal-driven (much better in this area than previous HM titles, you will find yourself constantly saving up for the next house upgrade, furniture installment, musical note, or friendly barn animal)
- festivals (there's more of them, but... more on that later)
- mini-games (at last, we can take a more interactive part in races!)
- fun (it just plain is)
cons:
- framerate?? (how can a game this graphically simple have lagging issues? if GC titles like RE4 and PoP can pull off their stunning visuals without much choppiness, than MM should be capable of the same)
- lack of cutscenes (I really missed heart events, and the random, cute but very weird scenes between villagers present in almost every other HM title)
- controls (certainly not as bad as some, picking up things can be more trouble than its worth, and the camera angles can be difficult, despite the nice transparency of objects in the foreground)
- festivals (some are done really well, like the horse races when you can actually race, but most feel like obligatory breaks from your average day that get old about the second time through. I would have liked to have seen a mini game for nearly every festival, and I certainly miss dancing)
other thoughts:
I would have liked to have seen more variation in conversations with townspeople instead of the cheap, 'I'll keep saying the same things over and over again until you finally bribe me with expensive gifts' ploy. I was hoping for a ton of cutscenes, even random and stupid ones. They would have broken up the monotony. The framerate issues near Jamie and Blue Sky Ranch are pretty much not cool at all.
In the end, this is a fun game and I will reccomend it, but I guess I see a lot more to improve upon before this game is declared best in the series... in my opinion that accolade still rests with the 64 verison (or maybe its spinoff on the playstation).
IT ROX!!!

The reason i gave it 4 stars is because you can zoon in or out and you can't change views. But overall the game is great! I am 11 and i still love it! Graphis are great, you can do things you would NEVER imagine you could do and its a GIANT improvment off the old games but it's nothing like them.
This harvest moon fan was sorry she bought it.

Okay, if you've played lots of other harvest moon games before...maybe you should skip buying this one, and wait for the newest installment for DS coming out in June.
The controlls are confusing to figure out, and the beginning story and music you will hear during the games are VERY cheesy. Like, 'I couldn't stand it and had to turn it off' cheesy.
I liked Wonderful Life for Gamecube much better. Magical Melody tries to be kinda like Friends of Mineral Town, which I've already played, so I was looking for new imporvements in the game! The improvements weren't enough to maintain my interest in this one. Yah, you earn music notes, but you earn a music note just for FALLING DOWN. Like I said, I was unimpressed.

This game is the next big Harvest Moon game. Its new features and its pros are:
You can now play as a boy or a girl in one game disc. It has been annoying for Harvest Moon fans to have to buy one boy's version and one girl's version.
Appropriate for all ages. It is a wonderful game for families to share.
Teaches life skills. It teaches responsibility through spending you money wisely and other things.
An enhancement of marriage choices. Now a whopping 10 with one extra secret choice.
It has a nice storyline.
It stays fairly true to the series.
You do not have to be a long time Harvest Moon fan to understand this game.
You can do multiple things in one day. To name a few I'll mention fish, plant crops, go mining, and socialize with other villagers.
You now have a rival to compete against for your farming accomplishments and other categories.
The pause screen keeps track of all your fellow villagers affections for you.
Festivals where you can just have fun.
Multiple pieces of land that you can buy. You can have multiple barns and chicken coops.
Now for the very few cons:
Some might think the graphics to be cutesy.
It gets tiring to hear the villagers say the same thing over and over, only to change when you raise their heart level for you or at festivals.
There might be a few more but at the moment I can't think of any.
In closing, this game is fun for all ages. But if you only like fighting games, this game is not for you.
