I would've never expected a Sims 2. It's a brilliant idea that Maxis has come up with. It looks SO fun. I really only found out about it like a day ago but I've been researching it a lot. The screenshots look awesome (find them at TheSims2.com). I've seen a lot of other sims fans asking Maxis to make an expansion pack about growing up and living the stages of infant, toddler, kid, adult, and grandparent. This makes the game based on reality and really just tells you that you have a limited amount of time to achieve your goals and it teaches you about how you can ruin it. The sims are also more aware of their surroundings. If two sims are making love and another enters the room, they'll have a reaction. The new create a sim feature looks cool as well. We get to personalize our sims much more.
If you have the Sims Makin Magic expansion pack, there's a Sims 2 preview disk in the case. I suggest you watch it, it has a lot of info about the game.

I planned in advance for the Sys Requirements

I remember vividly when the original Sims came out -- I remember how even though I thought I was within the minimum requirements, the game ran extremely slow and choppy on my (at the time) pretty fast machine. And I remember it only getting worse as each expansion pack came out... especially the packs like Vacation, where you left the house and entered areas with a whole lot of activity going on.

So in anticipation of this game coming out, I went ahead and doubled my RAM on my PC from 256 to 512, a $40 upgrade. I was running a 64 MB vid card, which is double the 32 MB required, so I was fine on that.

The game runs fine on my PC... nary a hiccup nor crash in site. Any future consumers of this game just need to know that Maxis' minimum requirements really don't mean squat -- load up your PC as best you can, and you can enjoy the game as it was meant to be played.

A good rule of thumb is to pretty much double the minimum requirements stated.

I know, it stinks, but you gotta do what you gotta do to get your Sims fix.

Great

I love the Sims2. I can't wait to see what type of addons there will be for it. The interactions between the Sims is more life like in some areas and sooo funny in others. I like building the 3 story house too

I am one of the first people to actually play the Sims 2! I am 12 years old and they wanted a kid tester so of course I said Yeah. It was great! There were only a few problems that they were fixing.
1: If you don't have much memory left on your computer the graphics are a little slow.
2: Sometimes you miss you ride to work, because they just didn't give you enough time to get out there.

It was fantastic though! Worth the money for sure! Since I went to their company to test the game I got a little iside info: They have a small team finishing up the Sims 2 and a larger team working on the first expansion pack which I go to try. The only thing is they made my sign a form saying that I wouldn't tell anyone what was in the expansion pack, or I get sued :(

I think it is worth you money for sure!

FUN: But....Hardware Requirements Steep!

I purchases the Sims 2, after rave reviews from a friend. Sims 2 is a fun and (addicting) game despite a few bugs... (You can't change your younger Sims clothing in the dresser for instance), and the deletion of items the game determines are 'in use' is problematic. Sims 2 is infinitely customizable, and the characters look and sound great... My only beef? The system requirements are WAY too high, and its difficult for even the newer computers(especially those running laptops) to play. Also, the game doesn't offer the option of turning off aging in game which is annoying. Who wants to invest so much time and energy into a sims family, only to have them die? (I know there is a 'hack' for this, but I still think this should be a setting).

Overall, if you have a robust computer with the right video card, and the numerous other requirements you'll LOVE sims2. Just make sure your computer is up to specs before purchasing the game...Otherwise your'e bound to be disappointed.

This stinks ~ Wish I was warned

I wish I could type a good review but I'm barely able to play the game. I have a little bit above the miniumum requirements to play the game, but they should have warned us. They said game play would be slow. Slow is an understatement. The truth of the matter is that you cannot play with miniumum system requirements. Why they even suggest you can is ridiculous.

I am dying to play Sims 2. I loved the last Sims and I am excited to see all the new things they have added. Unless I invest another $500 into my operating system I am left with a $50 game that is collecting dust on my dresser.

THIS STINKS!

Fun yet Boring

this game is really fun, but after awhile you get somewhat bored. i haven't played it in awhile because it takes FOREVER to load. i would definately play it more often if i knew it would take me less than thirty minutes to reach and play my sim family. i played the sims 1 ALOT more, that game didnt take forever or require a ton of space. don't get me wrong though, it's really fun.

Slated to be a fantastic game

First off, I'm not under 13, I'm 16. Second, I am almost completely sure this game will live up to the hype. IGN has given it an excellent score of 9.4, while Gamespy gave it a 5 star review. I was a big fan of the architectural elements of the first game, but the gameplay got old after awhile from constantly making your sims go the bathroom or take a shower before they soil themselves. Thankfully, the sims do this themselves in this game. All new houses with three stories, new furniture, DNA, and improved AI round out the package. To the people complaining about the 50 dollar price tag, I ask, "Have you ever bought a new computer game before?" If you had, you would understand the price. Also, Maxis and EA will not sell the sequal to the best selling pc game of all time for 30 bucks. That is just bad marketing. To the people complaining about the system requirements, specifically the amount of hard drive space needed, (3.5 gb) and the graphics. Well, it would be a lie to think 3 and a half gigs isn't a lot, but thats the price of perfection. this game has an all new 3d graphics engine, tons of furniture and neighborhoods, and a movie maker. Lastly, to the people who are confused by the september 14/17 release date, I believe if you have preordered Sims 2, (like me) you will get it on the 14, whereas if you have not, you will have to hit the stores on the 17. You will notice I said stores, as in plural, because most likely you will be visiting more then one if you try to buy the game on the 17th. Preorder it guys, and save yourselves the hassle.

PS. I gave the game 5 stars, but I am not really reviewing the game, I am trying to provide some info to the people who previousely were asking questions. Bye, and have some good adventures in simland!

Can't review a game I can't play.

I checked to see if I had the system requirements and felt I was all set. I preordered this game a month in advance. Checked the UPS site like crazy waiting for it to arrive. When I downloaded the game it was pretty fast and I was happy about that but when I clicked on to play. Nothing. It kept saying my graphic adapter was not compatible with DirectX 9.0 which is not true because it is, yet it continue to say that it wasn't. So I spent the next two fustrating days downloading and updating my driver to trying to rechecking my system for higher requirements (because the lowest requirements they printed was just not gonna work), trying to download other drivers, checking the EAsy Info provided with the game. I even went to best buy to talk to a tech support person and even hunted down a new video card (but couldn't buy it)

Then I learned that the main reason why it kept saying it wasn't compatible with DirectX to play the game is because I had a different video card brand than the one listed on the box. Basically you *must* have ATI Radeon (latest verison only) or NVIDIA GeForce (only the latest verison) the main reason why I say only the latest version because like I said before, the lowest requirements listed are bogus. I wish they had a more broad range of Graphic Adapter support that's also compatible with DirectX 9.0 for this game instead of having to buy a whole new product. And if your computer is atleast a year old forget it, period. Unless you want to shell out hundreds of dollars for a brand new video card. And if you have a year old notebook you better not even look at this game.

I would love to play this game but I don't love it enough to go broke just to play it and I know that sometime in the near distant future I will have to upgrade or even buy a brand new computer but I'm not doing that just to play a fifty dollar PC game. At least I still have GTA San Andreas to look forward to, and I know I can play that. Until then I'm selling my Sims 2.

SIMPLY EXCELLENT BUT HOPEFULLY THIS IS THE LAST OF ITS KIND

This is going to be the game of the year. Finally The Sims will have some substance. No more goofy 2-d graphics and odd-looking homes. I just hope there are no more "expansion" packs. Nothing was ever expanded, just wasted. I am glad I stopped buying expansion packs for the original Sims. I stopped after Hot Date. It seemed like a waste. The Sims 2 is going to make all of those games obsolete when it is released this March. The world has practically been playing a demo all this time and that was the #1 selling game ever. So just imagine how well this one should do. But sales aren't the most important thing and now I'm just babbling. Play this game!
