WHEN I FIRST GOT MY COPY OF PIRATES, I COULDN'T RUN THE DAMN THING. IT JUST KEPT SHUTTING DOWN ON ME. I WAS TOLD BY TECH HELP TO TURN THE WORLD DETAIL, ALL THE WAY UP AND NOW THE GAME RUNS SMOOTHLY. THIS IS BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST GAMES I'VE PLAYED IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS. BUY IT NOW.

Disappointed

I enjoy Pirate games. I have Sea Dogs but not the newer version. When I saw that Pirates came out, I waited to see the reviews. So I went out and bought the game and have found it to be very disappointing. I find that the game is very repetitive, I find that the clock is way to fast to enjoy what you are doing in game. I find that UI is very weak in that you can't do alot of varying things. Example: If I went to a port I should be able to take out 1 ship and use my others as my stores. Where by I could use all my sailors that I have in control on 1 ship.

I can't own any ports that I enter into combat and win :( Time moves to fast in ship to ship combat and camera modes r limited to 2 views only. LOF or LOS are none existanced. Graphics r very clean in game to many ships that spawn that create to many combats, Bugs in game : 1 most notable, is that when u sack a ship and get to port you can't sell some goods that you looted for they r no longer there in ships hull.

The game for me is not enjoyable to repetitive for me.

Sorry Sid maybe next time.

The games was awesome in 1987 & still is now. I have no problems with the game I have played it non stop since I got it. I have a ati radeon 9600 pro 256mb video card and have no problems. You guys must have sorry computers. Have fun waiting for patches why I play all day long.

Can't get it to work

I have a ATI Radeon 7500 Video Card w/64Mb but the game quits
in port with a VPU Recover message: Graphics no longer responding to driver commands. What the heck is T&L compatible?

I guess this would be a nice game if I could get it to work.
Could someone recommend a Video Card that will work. It needs
to be plugged into the PCI slot on my Dell 2400 Desktop.

I have a new computer 2+ GHz Processor, 512 MB Ram 160 GB hd space well over the minimum requirements for the game. I downloaded corrective patch 1.02 for this game from Sid Meiers website. I started playing this game. It seemed like an interesting and fun game, I just started to get the gist of it then WHOOPS crash. Crash retry crash, crash again. wow I'll try to save it every few seconds. crash crash crash. Not fun.

HUGE FAILURE - Crash

Looks like fun - can't tell - I wish it would play on a machine that meets and exceeds stated system requirements. Many many complaints on the web as well as here about the PC version of the game crashing. I've tried all suggested fixes for this game and its predecessors. Switching compability for Win95/98/Me/2000/XP, disable visual themes, 256 color, 640x480 res, and installing patch v1.02.

2K and Firaxis do not desire to help fix these problems. Now I know what its like to be shot and buried with the Captain's treasure. (At least I can get my money back.)

DO NOT BUY! PIECE OF CRAP!

Hmm. I bought this game on Thursday and it hasn't worked long enough to do anything with it. While my computer more than meets all the basic requirements for this game, it seems to be plagued by bugs and won't stop quitting or causing fatal errors. I have a brand new computer I just bought a few weeks ago at Costco, and rather than this being an awesome first game for me to buy, this has been a headache. When I tried to contact customer service at Firaxis, they were very friendly, but less than helpful. I was really excited to get and play this game, but I've been so disappointed that I can't get it to play. I can remember playing the old Pirates! Gold on Sega Genesis and was excited to hear about this game being available on PC, and for me this disappointment has been crushing. My advice to you is that if you have the money to burn and lots of time to spend contacting customer service recieving answers that don't work, then you should buy this game. If not, then I think your money would best be spent on anything else.

uhhhhhh!

I originally bought this game for my husband and he absolutely loves it. Even our two older grandkids want to play it when they visit so he bought them each their own copy.

Um...good, but..

when are they going to come out with a version of this for girls?? They had a bunch of famous, equally kick-butt women pirates. That gripe aside, this is a really fun, addictive game. Dancing is a true pain (hint, just keep sailing in and out of one port til you get the dancing slippers), but the battles are really fun. It's interesting having to say to yourself "o.k., kick Blackbeard's tail in here, then go to Santo Domingo for Lafitte's treasure and whip around to get the treasure ship just outside of Cartagena"..whole new meaning to trip planning. Get this over a vacation or long weekend - you will be in front of your computer while with this one.
