I've bought and played many soccer games and this is the best. I have bought most of the other Fifa soccer games but this outdoes them all. The buying and seling of players is a real winner It is a great game for soccer lovers like me.

FIFA has always had a more arcade like game-play to it. It's just with fifa 2003 that it's been trying to play more like real soccer. That said, I cant help but notice that FIFA looks like they're scrambling to catch up to Konomi's european WINNING ELEVEN series now that they finally made it available here in the USA. Unfortunatly, even though FIFA has all the nice flash, Winning Eleven 6 still has the substance! Now that Winning Eleven 7 is due out this month, and at a 10$ price difference, I see DOOM written all over the FIFA series!!!!
Better than fifa 2003

Why people don`t accept changes?, every edition of fifa has its changes, and all the changes are for good. By example, there are only one speed of the game, but with this you can create a better plays, with more time and precition to make a pass, and with the new funtion that let you move your player who doesn`t have the ball, its a great Idea, you can move your team as you decide...and what a beautiful plays you can make and what a nice goals..the movements of the players are asewome, its almost real, you can make goals from a lot of position, but it depends if you have space to make such play. don`t wait to get this new game, has a lot of changes and fixes, that I will mention below. Personally I recomend it, what game have all the superstars and stadiums, and uniforms???...this is Real.
Pros: *the new control without ball player *the practice area *in fifa 2003 when you were playing and you push a button the player react instantly making unwishing passes, but now the player don`t react when you push buttons while play, he wait and make the pass..*the way to make corners, wow!! you can select between three choices...and you select the player who have to score and there is a battle with the defender and you, the vision is awesome, again...almost real *the way to make free kicks, direct or undirect *the motion videos, and replays are well done, and you can saw the better plays at the end of the game twice...* the career mode, is a great Idea just to put in the place of a manager...you can choose a team from the 3rd premier league and put in the 1st premier league *the way to save your games, if is a tournament, in a tournament tab, if is a career, in the career tab...you can rename it to know what game is it..and so..
Pros: *you cannot make tournaments, there are not world cup tournament, so the way to play with international teams, is always friendly... *in career mode you cannot invent a team, you have to use the default teams.
As I saw, I think that maybe when I play and win tournaments and all...could be that I can unlock tournaments, or other stuff... so, don`t think to much and buy it...its a Classic Game that you must have...
ah, almost forget...maybe some day we can save our goals...it will be great...because I have scored a lot of beautiful goals, and I cannot share with nobody....

I bought the game mostly for the online play. I thought that would be in itself a good enough reason to buy it. Since over the years I have enjoyed playing FIFA from EASports. Saying that, the online experice stinks. Hard to connect to players, there's always a lag, and it seems that EASports doesn't care about it's customers when it comes to the FIFA game. It seems that this problem also affected Tiger Woods golf, but it was fixed right away.
I'm also a fan of Winning 11, and now more then ever. Can't wait for the latest version coming our next year in the States. And will no longer buy FIFA from EAsports. I've been a fan since the beginning, and will no longer be since they don't care about me.

It's not all that bad. It's not great either.
First of all, as soon as you start the game, set the game speed to full and change the camera angel to action, otherwise you will get very aggrivated. Once that's the done, the game speed is reasonable and the graphics are great. However, the game will still slow down tremendously if a lot of action is happening on the field. Off The Ball is a new control in this game, which is very original but impossible to apply. The way to take free kicks and corners is ,I have to admit, a great improvement.
It's also a lot easier to head or volley a ball compared to 2003.
Career mode is also very refreshing and the transfer market is rather realistic. The game show's that EA had some nice ideas, they just didnt apply it very well. The game is full of bugs, and the slowdown during the game is extremly annoying.
The European Championship is comming up, let's just hope EA is smart enough to make up for their mistakes and release a European Championship version (like they have before) early in 2004.
General advise - Rent, then buy

this is a real step backwards from the 2003 version, which was tough, but manageable. I don't mind difficulty, but the difficulty isn't realistic. Scoring should be harder than it was in 2003, but I can't figure out how I can have Ronaldo with 2 steps on a 3rd division defender and get caught from behind every time. The "freestyle" move is worthless, so you've got the greatest stars in the world and no ability to beat a lead-footed defender one on one. Off the ball control is unusable, as by the time you coordinate everything, you've surely lost the ball. The career mode is way too involved for someone who just wants to play a season and I can't imagine why FIFA can't have a World Cup or Champions League-type tournament. I'm sorely disappointed. No wonder Americans hate soccer - they've managed to even make its video game boring.

This game is B-O-R-I-N-G. I love soccer and I couldn't wait to buy it but it's just so slow! I've had the game for 6 months and every once in a while I take it out to play a game and see if maybe I'm missing something but I end up turning it off after a few minutes.
I've heard a lot of gripe about certain teams that are missing and if I may also add to it -- there are no Latin American or Caribbean teams! Where is Mexico? Costa Rica? Where is Jamaica for heaven's sake?
I bought this game for two reasons -- because I love soccer and because you can switch the commentary to Spanish. I'm not a gamer, just a weekend/every once in a while non-expert who enjoys PS2 as a break in monotony. You might like this game if you are really into video games and understand their limitations. I'm a beginner so I was expecting so much more. I don't know how to choose teams correctly and the instructions were unclear to me. You get an areal view of the game while the ball is in play and that makes the players so small to me that it takes away from the excitement.
That said, I'm going to continue to play it in hopes that I might learn to like it. Please try to rent this title before you buy it, I regret having spent over (...) for a game I may never fully comprehend.

this game sucks. it's so unrealistic. there are specific locations on the field and you know that 9 out of 10 times you are going to score from these locations. also after a member of your team passes the ball he stops for like a second; so if it was a bad pass and your opponent intercepts the ball, you cannot use that guy to get the ball back from him. there are so many small things like this that are so annoying. another example: you cannot go near the goalie when he is kicking the ball. And also the announcer's words are exactly the same as it was in FIFA 2003 which was terrible. I just wish that they really work on FIFA2005 and I really would like to see a FIFA Street game. That would be awesome.
Why so Eurocentric?

The game is fun but it could be improved. Why can you play the Swedish, the Swiss, the English 3rd division or the MLS but not the Argentinean or the Mexican leagues? At least there is Boca and Pumas. Why can't you buy players from the Latin American leagues on career mode? Even the way of playing is Eurocentric favoring passing and running over dribbling and finesse. It would also be fun to play the Libertadores, the World cup or other international cups. The stadiums and chants are great but then again: where is Maracana the biggest stadium in the world or the Azteca stadium, the only one to have hosted two World cups?

This game is terrible. The difference in difficulties is way too drastic, you either win 16-0 or every game is 0-0. Also when on offense you cannot manuver through tackles, either you avoid the defense or you don't score. If you like to look at pretty stadiums then buy this game if you want a good game go for Winning Elevin 6 or 7.
