They destroyed the mini games!

I have been an extremely devoted SMB fan since the very first time I laid eyes on it. I own ALL of them, and so when I stood in line all night Saturday (and through Sunday morning, 8am), I made sure to grab myself a copy of SMB: Banana Blitz for my brand new Wii. I bought an entire set of controllers, anticipating the mini-game fun with all my friends. (We're huge SMB fans, all of us. It always makes an appearance at our parties.)

But now I'm really angry. They completely gutted our favorite mini-game(s), hitting Monkey Target worst of all. I can honestly say I don't care that there are 50 freakin mini-games, because now Monkey Target is completely worthless. Instead of the amazingly subtle game play with bonus items, increasingly difficult levels, magnets, velcro, double bonuses, wind speed and direction, and the all-import ramp run-off you have... a cannon, one level, no wind or wind direction, no bonuses, and no special items.

Who cares if I can SORT of pilot a submarine on a single level? Monkey squash -- no joy there. A lot of the controls for the mini-games are terrible. And so on, so forth. The new mini games suck almost unilaterally, but gosh darn, there are 50 of them! But volume does not make up for lack of quality.

I love traditional SMB levels and the ones on SMB: Banana Blitz are nice. The graphics are beautiful and fun. But the best part of the game for me and my friends, is now gone and dead. None of the reviews I'd read mentioned the fact that this favorite of most SMB players was killed like this, and if they had, I certainly wouldn't have wasted my $50 plus tax.

If Sega people are reading this: BRING BACK MONKEY TARGET. That's what people play at parties when they're slightly drunk and sick of listening to Super Smash Brothers, and way too awake to enjoy Mario Party.

Great Games..

I also am a huge monkey ball fan and also own them all and this one is just as good as not better than the others.. game play is awsome with the new control system and as for the old target game.. their are a few target games on this one.. if you dont like monkey target then try paraglider for a much harder and funner game. This games has so many games that are fun with friends of all ages.. snowboarding, a few racing, disk golf, free throw, hovercraft battle, boxer, bowling, fencing, sling shot, and so many more.. [..]

Seems a little rushed.

The Main game is enjoyable- but that is a formula that has been set in stone. The controller adds a new element- and its a blast. However- they are trying to sell most people on the MiniGames- and they just aren't good.

I have played a handful of them- and they all control very poorly. Half of the time- we just started over because one of the controllers would go eratic. I hope that this isn't a sign of what is to come from SEGA for all of their Wii games.

A Super Monkey Ball Banana "Blast"

Ok, so far the reviews have been really harsh on this game. Some user gave the game a real cheap shot just because Monkey Target isn't as good as the Gamecube one. Admittedly, it isn't. I loved and played the gamecube monkey target for hours, but this one just isn't up to par. Ok, that's upsetting, but it's easily overlooked. The reason that's the case, has to do with the fact that the rest of the game is amazing. There are a few mini games that are a tad boring, but most of them are a blast. And then there is a large selection of mini-games that are just as good as monkey target from gamecube, and some. And that is saying a heck of a lot. The new controls make for a fresh and enjoyable experience, whether in the main game or the mini-game. This is THE game to have if you want to see just what the Wii is capable of. The controller is used in every which way to show just how fun this new control mechanism can be. Oh, and BTW, if you want to see just how responsive and enjoyable a FPS can be on the Wii, one of the mini-games show you just that. Don't listen to the harsh reviewers, this is a keeper, and a great game.... especially with other people to play it with. In other words, a Super Monkey Ball Banana "Blast," and it wouldn't be possible without the amazing system, thanks Wii!

Give this Monkey a Chance!

There seems to be schools of thought on this one. Some are hard core fans of the old versions (which I have never played) and are extremely upset about the mini-games being changed (especially Monkey Target). The other reviewers absolutely love the game for what it is... a challenging experience that is destined to provide you with hours upon hours of enjoyment!

Lets start with the main game. I LOVE how the Wiimote is used here. It is INCREDIBLY sensitive and works perfectly with this type of game. When you play through the first word (eight levels and a boss) you are taken to the credits. When this happened for the first time I nearly freaked out and began to wonder who to sell the game to someone at not too big of a loss. However, once the credits were over I realized that you would have multiple worlds to choose from. I'm now midway through world six and they just get better and better. There was a point when I was about ready to tear my hair out it was so challenging. But, once you beat a level, you a psyched up and ready for another challenge. This is the sign of a great game. This game is worth buying for the one player mode alone.

This other part of the game is the now "infamous" multi-player mode. There are 50 games here... FIFTY!!!!! I agree with the other reviewers who say that not all, maybe even most, of the "party games" are now very well done. The controls were obviously not perfected and I"ll probably never play many of them again. However, there are some mini-games that are wonderful! My wife NEVER plays video games and LOVES these minis. Some are very addicting. My wife's younger brother spent the day with me today and we have a blast playing the minigames alone for over THREE HOURS and didn't even come close to playing them all. Yeah, some were letdowns, but most were a lot of fun. The best thing about the mini-games are that they are so varied. They really show what the new Wii controls are capable of.

In conclusion, do not buy this game if you ONLY want to play Monkey Target. But, if you are looking for a super fun launch title that can be played played in both single and multi-player form, BUY IT NOW! You will easily get your money's worth and its replay value is high. Monkey Ball Rules!

Good :)

I just got my Wii and I bought Zelda which was a given, and I also purchased Monkey Ball because of the great reviews and rating. The main game is very addicting and very challenging, but I also thought Monkey Ball would be mainly great for mini games and I was wrong. Although I did read that on the IGN review they said if they would have done 15 goood mini games instead of 50, it would have been smarter. Overall, the main game makes this game a worth while purchase while the mini game just adds a little feature so if you are buying this game for the sole purpose of mini games, try Rayman! And yes, the controls are horrible on a lot of the mini games.

But I'm still glad I got it, me and my friend take turns playing the main game and it gets really challenging!

A little disappointed

I was a little disappointed with Super Monkey Ball. It has a main game, and 50 mini-games. The main game is quite fast paced and fun, however, it is a little too simplistic to justify the cost of a full game. Supposedly the 50 mini-games should make up for it. However, these mini-games are so difficult to control to be any fun. After playing Wii Sports, I just cannot get used to the awkward gaming experience Super Monkey Ball has to offer.

Did not like this game.

I dont have much to say other than I did not like this game. I was hoping that it was going to be like Fusion Frenzy for the Xbox but it was not nearly as fun. The controls were difficult to use and the gameplay was not very good. Some people may like it but I didn't.

Fun but hard to master

This is my first SMB title so I had no idea what to expect. Also first Nintendo Console I bought since the SNES. I saw the commercials for SMB on TV and just had to get it for my 4 year old son. He loves monkeys and the way the game is controlled looked fantastically easy to control for a 4 year old small hands. Boy was I wrong. The game is VERY difficult to control and the end monsters are very difficult (for me anyway). I've been trying to kill the second level guy for 3 days now (total of about 3 hours), and still no luck getting the bad guy down half way. As for my son playing he started crying because he can't control the monkey. He just can't comprehend holding the controller forward to go forward. I guess he will get it eventually? He does love watching me play which is good I guess. The mini games are nice, but right now all extra controllers are sold out, so I don't mess with them to much. All and all I do like the game, graphics are bright and colorful.

...Frustrating Mini games...

I bought this because it got such great reviews.. I really liked the one for the Gamecube..

Man, this one is frustrating though. I like the single player campaign, but the minigames aren't very much fun, and that's the real reason I bought the game. I had a friend over to play it with me, since we both thought it would be as good as the GameCube version.. we started out with minigames and just got frustrated because they are so hard to control.. half the time the controllers just bug out.

I haven't had problems with controls in wii sports or Zelda, but SMB:BB is pretty rough... I wish I could take it back.

Also, what gives with the bogus reviews on this game? I don't know how anyone could go through those minigames and think that this game deserves the best rating.

I really am not trying to be harsh, but I felt like this game should be pretty simple and a lot of fun for a party, just like its predecessor, but I wouldn't want to get this game out for a group... everyone would want to leave. I'll stick with Zelda and Wii sports for now.
