Best Party Game

We love this game and the wide variety of activities it covers. Whether you are 50 or 10 this game plays well. Some games require nunchucks for all players and having multiple wemotes is a definite plus for this game. While you don't have to be a dedicated gamer to enjoy this one (I'm not), somehow the kids do seem to catch on faster but with a little practice adults can now compete with their teens on a video game....certainly do appreciate the wii for bringing famlies into gaming.

Good Game, Seems rushed out...

You don't have to play the game forever to unlock all the mini-games. But many of them are not very good. I was disappointed that the main game was single player only, guess I should have read the reviews first. But I had all the other Super Monkey Ball games and trusted the name, but this one is not up to par, especially with wii games costing $50. Yes the game works with the new controllers, and no we did not have trouble controlling the monkeys, but with a family of four waiting to play the main game, it is very annoying.

The whole product seems like they wanted out for the launch date so they cut corners. I can see them in the development room saying they could not have multi-player ready for launch, and knowing there would be an outcry, they decided hey why don't we just unlock all the mini-games, and create a few more, 50 sounds like a good number!

If you are a monkey fan and have the wii you are going to buy it anyways, if not I would wait until Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz II (You know it's coming!)

Horrible game for te Wii

I rented this game before buying because I had read so many bad reviews. If I had only played this game on the Wii, and no other Wii games, I would not want a Wii system! Every other Wii game is amazing. The Wii controller does not work with this game like Monkey Ball says it will. Major frustration! If you want a cute game for little kids, try Happy Feet. It has swimming, sliding and dancing that is fun and the controller works great with it.

Do not waste your money on Monkey Ball for the Wii.

Decent story, But dreadful Mini-games

First off, when you buy this game, lets just hope you didn't buy them for the Party/Mini-Games, bileve me, they are bad. I few of them are pretty good like racing or the FPS one, but most of them just don't work right, and get pretty boring after a few plays. The Graphics are okay, Framerate can drop in the space world for some reason which can get frustrating at times. The Story/Single Player mode is pretty fun, The controls added the level of difficulty so if you dont like hard games dont pick this one up, I found it easier to move in all directions by holding the front and back ends of the Wii Remote with my fingers. Music is good but I expected better from a Monkey Ball game (previous titles had great techno music) Overall, this is a decent title, its probably like 30 bucks now so I recommend it for someone who likes hard labrynth style games.

A Solid Entry in the Monkey Ball Series

I see so many reviews here stating that this game is too hard, frustrating etc. Honestly, most games of this type are challenging but that is what makes them fun. Sure they have changed some of the games (ie..boxing etc) but it still maintains the classic monkey ball races but this time I find they are more natural in the way you control the monkey ball, with the wii remote. Its quite fun actually and sure the game has its challenges but if it was too easy people would only gripe about that.

Honestly I bought this for my son and he is 5 years old. He blew through the game (mini games included like he did through Super Mario Galaxy) and highly enjoys this game quite a bit as it has quite a bit of replay value for him with all of the levels this game offers plus the party games. Sure he gets frustrated with a few levels from time to time but with patience and trying again he beats the level and is excited to get to the end level boss.

I have always thought that the Super Monkey Ball series wasn't for everyone, but it is a solid title and the changes can be a little odd compared to the old series but they obviously decided to update it for the Wii this time around and it works! The controls are very tight and you usually only fall off of areas due to user error not control issues.

This isn't Mario or Donkey Kong but has it's own loyal following. Even newer players can find alot to enjoy here if they don't get too easily frustrated by puzzle/racing games.

Fun game, looks nice, but can be very frustrating

If you've played the previous monkey ball games, then you're familiar with the frustration factor that is always a part of monkey ball. Aside from that, I found the game a lot of fun to play. The levels look very nice, and smooth but sensitive controls.

This is the kind of game you have to just put down for a while and come back to, because it can be very difficult and require trial and error. That being said, it is a classic and I recommend it for your Wii library for any age.

If you've played monkey ball before, expect more of the same plus these improvments:

- The levels are much smoother and detailed

- You can now make your ball jump

- The different monkey characters have different sized balls which can have a huge difference on some levels

- Levels are arranged into worlds, each with 8 levels. No more beginner, intermediate, advanced.

Keep in mind that this is the first Monkey Ball game I've ever played. So I can't compare it to past Monkey Ball games.
The graphics are excellent and the mini-games are great. The main game was easy (though I am still trying to unlock Worlds 9 and 10).
Fun game!

Not for beginners - could be frustrating

The objective of this game is to guide a rolling 'monkey ball' through a range of obstacles (slopes, stairs, gaps, bridges etc) through a series of passages. The levels are vibrant and very colorful. Wii motion controls are cleverly used and amazingly nice and intuitive. Be careful not to fall off the edge and fight a boss at the end of each one of the ten levels. The levels get progressively difficult and quite challenging (some very difficult, esp. the bosses). To add to it, there is a time limit on levels. You may get frustrated if you are an average gamer or beginner.

The game also has 50 mini games of varying difficulty and goals - most with simultaneous multi-player capability. The variety is so much that you'll always like / dislike something. The great thing about it is that you dont have to do anything to unlock these games. You can play them just from the mainmenu even w/o playing the main game. A lot of these are good fun like the good old arcades (bug balance, hurdles race, jump rope, submarine, space attack, snow surfing, racing, banana thief etc) but with wii motion controls. Surprisingly, for some games, the wii motion controls are not so smooth/intuitive. You really need very tight hands. So, I didn't like playing golf and a few other games.

Bottomline: Main game can be frustrating for beginners. Huge variety of mini-games.

So Much Fun - Until it gets IMPOSSIBLE!!!

The Wii controller makes this entry in the Monkey Ball series - Soooo much harder - but you get over that, and learn how to adjust - but then the levels start getting near impossible to beat. A few I only beat through luck after the 80th or so try... For such a fun game, it's unfortunate how hard they made it.

I checked an online guide, and apparently to unlock some of the later worlds - you have to beat the entire game without "continuing" - huh??? Yeah I don't think I'll ever have the patience or time to do that - but the first 8 or 9 levels were a lot of fun for my wife and I... just be ready to get VERY ANGRY here and there :)

Side note - the mini games are a let down, we got bored (and frustrated) after only trying a few of them...
But that might be an unfair review as there are still 37 or so to try...
