A tough but very satisfying driving sim

Definitely a big-league racing simulation - not for beginners. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever gone more than 2 or 3 laps without crashing! However, this is the perfect toy for someone who is ready to graduate from some of the less challenging racing games. The differences between the cars is dramatic; the twitchiness of the cars will give you new appreciation of what it takes to keep a high-strung race car under control. Virtually impossible to drive without a racing wheel attachment for your PC -- way too frustrating with a joystick. Serious gamers use this for online racing leagues; I'm not ready for that yet, but hope to be there some day.
The most realalistic.... but almost impossible to master

The feel of this game is incredible, the sounds are so real you will be transported back in time, but it is very difficult to learn how to compete with the computer controlled cars. You may ahve to be content with continually besting your own time in qualifying.
It's not that bad...

... once you install the two patches that have been released for Grand Prix Legends. These patches include much better car setups.
In addition, there are many web sites that feature additional setups that make the cars even easier to drive.
The patches also have added support for force feedback controllers.
Once you get the hang of Grand Prix Legends, it is an incredibly rewarding game to drive. But if you hop in the high-powered Grand Prix cars without taking some time to figure out the Trainers, you're going to spend a lot of time being a part of the scenery.
Way too difficult!

A great concept, but very, very difficult. While claiming to be an exceptionally accurate racing sim, I find it hard to believe that one of these cars will spin out of control while rounding a corner at only 30 mph! My Montero suv can do better than that. The sounds are terrific, but that's not enough.
Best racing sim to date!

True this is a very difficult sim to master but patience pays off! You MUST practice with the lower powered cars or you will be totally frustrated. Once you "graduate" to the big leagues there is no other sim that lets you drive with your throttle like it was done back in the 60's with these fire breathers. I can't express the excitement of setting up for a high speed turn and then using the throttle more than the wheel to get me through fast! I used to watch these races as a teenager - showing my age ;) This is not a sim for people who like arcade style driving. But if you are willing to spend some time with this one you will be rewarded with an exciting driving experience.

Grand Prix Legends (GPL) is truly a remarkable simulation. It gives you an appreciation of how challenging it is to drive a high powered race car. The graphics (you need a 3dfx card) and sounds are very realistic. The cars behave realistically (i.e. you can spin out at low speeds if you over rev your wheels). This game is for those who enjoy car racing but dislike the cheap arcade style racing games. It is difficult to master, but after a few hours, you can take a car around a lap without too much trouble. The tracks are beautiful and there is one that is 14 miles long! I highly recommend this game, but be ready to spend time learning it.
Two more stars please! The more realistic car sim EVER!

Awesome! I have never seen a sim like this! i ussually get tired of games in about a month, i have GPL for almost two years and still playing like the first day! The cars act like the real ones! takes time to master it, but, hey, the real cars where too! The mechanical adjustments really work! even roll bar stiffness and all.. Need For Speeders and all that, forget bout this, this game's not for ya

This is not short-attention-span racing. Just like the real cars, these are very difficult to master but once you do... there's nothing like it. Blasting through the Belgian countryside at Spa Francochamps at 198 mph. or braking hard for the Parabolica at Monza, this game is so real it's scary. In just one year it has developed an amazing cult following with mucho world-wide web sites and on-line championships. If you love F1. This is it. But be cautioned, it does require a lot of patience, skill and computer resources.

What an amazing gem of programming this is. It's now 18 months after its release, and I'm driving it as often as I did the first month. And though I'm having fun, I still have much to learn. If you were placed in one of these 1967 death traps with probably the greatest imbalance between speed and traction that technology ever allowed to exist, you would have to start slow and then work your speed up to the white-knuckle, death defying, and exhilarating levels that could only be experienced by the best drivers in the world. Until now. With practice comes the immense satisfaction of duelling at the edge of control in a mercilessly realistic recreation of the beautifully rendered historic tracks of that never to be repeated period of auto racing. These vehicles feel responsive and alive in a way that now makes all other racing sims feel artificial and canned. Frustration yes, also fatigue from intense concentration, heart-stopping close calls, a brilliant sense of hell-bent speed, and moments of exhilaration: all will be discovered by those who stick it through with Grand Prix Legends. And when you start to get the hang of it, head to WinVROC online and race against other sim jockeys. If your nerves can stand it!
The best racing sim on the market!

This is the closest you can get to the real thing. If you're in to serious sim racing you have allready purchased this game a long time ago, but if you're about to become a serious sim racer you'll have no choice but to buy it.
