Good Physics, outdated interface and graphics

Some classics are best forgotten when they require one to spend more time updating them than playing them. GPL, while having a great physics engine for 1960's era F1, has graphics that are difficult to get used to, even when improved by various mods. The lack of a fullscreen image is a real pain. I never knew about this when I purchased it, although to some this may not be a terrible loss. My main problem was with the horribly organized mod community. It took me hours to find good and reliable sites for this game, and even longer to understand what all the mods were for. A sound appreciation for F1 history is 'required' before purchasing this game, as there are too many car types, manufacturers, and drivers to keep track of. One could develop quite a headache from it all. It gets worse when dealing with the mod community. GPL has been modded to death IMO, and should be replaced by something newer. I played it a bit, but found the lack of some features and the graphics barrier was too much to deal with, so it has been shelved in favor of newer racing simulations like F1-Challenge. GPL should be bought for history/novelty purposes only

Classic is best..!

Thank you..!

Which is precisely why I prefer an old classic road car such as my humble 1500cc, 1971 VW Beetle, as opposed to a modern day all bells ringing, singing and dancing, clinical, spiritless non-DIY friendly modern day high performance vehicle.

Creature comforts aside, you don't have to break the speed limit nor the bank to experience the physical limitations of such cars.

Need I say anymore?

Case rested. For those who don't know now. You'll never know. Your loss is my gain.

Of course if you're of adequate means the above isn't an issue. Simply pay your fee and enjoy your track day etc. :)

Well done Sierra for enlightening the previously unfamiliar..!

Grand Prix Legends, totally real!

I got this game in February and I've been working hard on it. It proves how much better that the drivers in 1967 were compared to todays F1 drivers. I can't quite understand why Cooper and Honda wouldn't let them use their cars on the game, and why did they leave out Lemans. Well rookies, prepare for a real hard experience. The Eagle Westlake rocks!!

The best racing sim on the market!

This is the closest you can get to the real thing. If you're in to serious sim racing you have allready purchased this game a long time ago, but if you're about to become a serious sim racer you'll have no choice but to buy it.

I moved on to GPL from the NFS series of games and have never regretted it. 3 years after being created there are hundreds of new tracks, improved track and car graphics, utilities, movies, and websites dedicated to this game. Its the best Sim ever, bar none!

Got this in Feb 2001, and I still regularly spend time on the track with this one... what more can I say?... :-). Actively participate in 3 online leagues which race every week.

And, yes of course my wife hates it... do you even need to ask? ... ;-)

The most realalistic.... but almost impossible to master

The feel of this game is incredible, the sounds are so real you will be transported back in time, but it is very difficult to learn how to compete with the computer controlled cars. You may ahve to be content with continually besting your own time in qualifying.

Best Driving sim to date

Best driving simulator available to date.

To really appreciate the physic model of gpl you will need to get a good force feed back wheel, Logitech Wingman Force Feedback is what I use, and you will need to download the patch that gives the game ff.

For internetet racing, you will hooked up and racing in no time.

It is the best ever, and topping it will be extremely difficult. Enoy and I"ll see you at Monza some day.

Way too difficult!

A great concept, but very, very difficult. While claiming to be an exceptionally accurate racing sim, I find it hard to believe that one of these cars will spin out of control while rounding a corner at only 30 mph! My Montero suv can do better than that. The sounds are terrific, but that's not enough.

This game is good, because he has stars from the '68. Cars are very cool too. But it is hard to adjust parameters of the game. Graphic sucks. Hard to drive if you aren't ace in GP cars driving. If you are F-1 fanatic, you can buy this game. I give to it 3 stars.
