GPL - the best ever F1 racing sim. (period)

I've been playing this game pretty much since it was released. learning curve is high! Your only hope is to do your homework. get car setups from many places on the web, trust me, if you don't have the proper set up, you have no chance of even keeping the car on the track. With the proper setup these cars are a blast to drive! Can you say 150mph power slides! Graphics are fantastic, again, there are many, many graphical add-ons out there! The only bad thing I'll say about this game is: I wish sierra would create a follow-up that covers the 70's. If you find the cars impossible to drive, get the set-ups. If you think the graphics are weak, look for graphical add-ons. One last thing, if you don't have a wheel, you probably should not be playing this or any other F1 simulator.

Blood, sweat and tears! The best ever

I've spent thousands of hours on auto racing sims, from beta tester to reatil buyer. No game lives up to the disipline needed to conquer GP Legends by Sierra/Papyrus. Sure, you can probably win if you use the guardrail and no damage at Monza, but if you run in realistic mode (Grand Prix), you'll be humbled quickly by this games realism. The best I've ever done was a fourth in the French Grand Prix, and I was very proud. Heck, I've won at Talladega at 102-percent on the company's NASCAR sim, but came nowhere near the front playing reralistic in GPL. Once i was leading the French race with three to go, and blew the motor in my BRM ---drats.
This is the sim for those who demand realism --- if you've won in this sim, you are indeed amongst the few.

#1. Still

The hardest, toughest, most unforgiving, and most rewarding racing title made.
After about a month of spins, crashes and curses, this game clicked. It was like a light going on; suddenly the car handling and my responses came together and it opened out into the deeply challenging sim that it is. The mod community (gplea) mean that this "old" title is dynamite looking now and is continually updated. If you have a wheel and a good system this is just about unbeatable.

It's not that bad...

... once you install the two patches that have been released for Grand Prix Legends. These patches include much better car setups.

In addition, there are many web sites that feature additional setups that make the cars even easier to drive.

The patches also have added support for force feedback controllers.

Once you get the hang of Grand Prix Legends, it is an incredibly rewarding game to drive. But if you hop in the high-powered Grand Prix cars without taking some time to figure out the Trainers, you're going to spend a lot of time being a part of the scenery.

Two more stars please! The more realistic car sim EVER!

Awesome! I have never seen a sim like this! i ussually get tired of games in about a month, i have GPL for almost two years and still playing like the first day! The cars act like the real ones! takes time to master it, but, hey, the real cars where too! The mechanical adjustments really work! even roll bar stiffness and all.. Need For Speeders and all that, forget bout this, this game's not for ya

The Best Racing SIM Ever Created - Period!

This is not short-attention-span racing. Just like the real cars, these are very difficult to master but once you do... there's nothing like it. Blasting through the Belgian countryside at Spa Francochamps at 198 mph. or braking hard for the Parabolica at Monza, this game is so real it's scary. In just one year it has developed an amazing cult following with mucho world-wide web sites and on-line championships. If you love F1. This is it. But be cautioned, it does require a lot of patience, skill and computer resources.

The best racing simulation on the market

Grand Prix Legends is, by far and away, the best racing simulation on the market. In addition to excellent graphics, the simulation has an extremely realistic physics model. Consequently, it takes some practice to learn how to drive successfully, but the time spent is well worth it.

A classic

Fond memories of this one. This game was way ahead of its time. I think it came out around 1997, and plenty of people still play it as of late 2003 from what I hear. It had/has very good graphics, outstanding engine sounds, and an excellent physics model. These '60's Gran Prix F1 cars are very difficult to keep on the track. And rightly so, because like their real world counterparts, they have very skinny tires and no wings for downforce. A must have for racing enthusiasts.

It's good, but too hard.

First of all I want to say that GPL is still arguably the best racing sim out there. Graphics are great, but the handling........ yes it is certainly challlenging, but there's no doubt that the physics havebeen exagerated. Jackie Stewart has played GPL and is on record as saying that in real life ,the cars had more grip on the track. Yup, Jackie Stewart. Who better to judge the game? So yes, you can do some gratifying powerslides, but there is no denying that GPL is not as realistic as it thinks it is. Definitely worth buying though, as long as you're prepared for some frustration
