Metroid Zero Mission

Overall, this game isn't as good as everyone has said. At first it seems pretty fun, but after a while it just becomes a bit repeitive. Basically, you run into Chozo Statues which tells you where a ability is.(example: ice beam, hi-jump, bombs.) Then, after you get the ability you play around with it a bit and run into another Chozo Statue which tells you where another ability is, and then the rest of the game goes on like that. Occansionally that will change, like when you are supposed to face Kraid or Ridley.(two of the bosses in the game.) While we're on the subject of bosses, I felt this game didn't have as much as the other Metroid game on GBA.(Metroid Fusion.) There's only about 5 bosses in this game. One thing I did enjoy about this game is the extra chapter that wasn't in the orginal Metroid. I'm not going to give way anything, but when you start that part you do not have your suit, so all you have to hurt Space Pirates is a stunning gun. Since that doesn't damage them, you have to avoid them, so they usual shoot-everything gameplay in the game turns itno stealth gameplay.

Pros

-Great remake
-extra chapter
-good graphics
-good music

Cons

-repeitive gameplay
-SHORT (I beat it in two and a half hours)
-replay value isn't that good
-game starts on easy, and you can't change it to normal mode until you beat it on easy. you can't play on hard mode until you beat it on normal.

Same ol', same ol'.

But it is still fun. This game feels like simply the twin sister of Metroid Fusion. And both take inspiration from the SNES Super Metroid. Not the Game Cube Metroid. Sure, there may be similar aspects to the GC Metroid like the menu screens, but this is straight from the SNES version. The gameplay is tight. The graphics are 2D goodness. The sound is as good as you can get on the GBA, which is good.

This simply is a side scrolling 2D platformer with the goal of powering up with predefined powers that nobody should be surprised with by now. In the end you become an unstoppable alien killing machine. Which I always thought took the fun out of it but at the same time let you explore lots more of the worlds than if you didn't have those powers. One thing I did like was a little sequence where you have to run through an alien base sans your power suit. Which means you had to sneak around and not get caught which changed the whole gameplay dynamic altogether. I wish there was more of that though. I got pretty good at keeping those aliens off my [...]. But the main thing about this series is the exploration. Seeing if you can do certain moves and figure out certain ways to use those moves (consisting of a charged up battering ram rushing attack) to get to secret places.

Average game. Fun gameplay. Been there done that. I would have given it a half star more, though.

I'm a big Metroid fan, but I never got the chance the play the orginial. So when this came out, I bought it right away. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is smooth and the controls are so easy, you don't need to look at the manual. That plus the fact that you can play THE orginial Metroid when you beat Zero Mission makes it worth buying. If they re-release Super Metroid, I hope they can make it just as exciting.

Metroid Zero Mission rocks! Although it sucked when I got off the Space Pirate Mother Ship and the words MISSON ACCOMPLISHED appeared. Metroid Fusion was way longer. But it was fun, and worth the money. Although, like the other Metroid games I played, there's no replay value.

There's been a much welcome trend in the industry of games lately; remaking old classics. I'm in love with these remakes because many of them have been keeping true to the spirit and design of the original, yet adding a much-needed overhaul to the graphics, and to the sound, etc. The best examples of these remakes so far have been limited to the Nintendo GameCube with Resident Evil, and Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes. Now the GBA gets a taste of remade classics. Granted the GBA has been home to a number of ports of SNES classics, but this isn't just a port with a few added features, its all an all-new game built upon the skeleton of the original Metroid, and while it fails to surpass Metroid 3 (AKA Super Metroid) it comes fairly close in most retrospect. The graphics are amazing, the sound is also amazing, and the game play is stellar, although I do agree that it holds your hand too much to some extent, but this will not prevent getting lost, nor will it ensure you getting 100% items collected. In fact, getting 100% items collected is no easy feat. I have yet to accomplish it, as some of the tricks that must be pulled off to get all the items are either very difficult, or have no obvious solution that can be found for the puzzle. One item that was in Metroid 3 that could have helped with this is the scanner. I was able to get 100% of everything in Super Metroid thanks to that handy device. In addition to the lack of the scanner I also feel that there was room for even more content. They did add some mini-bosses and such, but the game was still far too short for my taste. I would prefer a much longer game. I also didn't like how the role of Mother Brian seemed so downplayed. I won't blow the ending, but the last boss was disappointing. Apart from that Metroid Zero Mission is nearly right up there with Super Metroid in overall greatness for the 2D versions of this game series. I hope that Metroid 2 will be next to undergo such a serious makeover, and that Super Metroid will be ported to the GBA soon as well.

Love It

This is a great game. The only negative factor is that you can beat it in a day or two. The enemies are cool, as well as the bosses. One of the best GBA games I've played.

This game is what I've been waiting for!

Let me start off by saying that I used to watch my older siblings play Metroid on Nintendo alot, and when I heard Nintendo was making a remake of it, I was so happy! The graphics are better, the music is awesome (especially Kraid) and its just awesome. And for the original metroid fans, there is a suprise after you beat Mother Brain. Muhahahahaha! Get this!

A Solid Remake of a Classic.

Anyone who had the original Nintendo (NES) is bound to know of this game. This is essentually a remake of that game, and a solid one at that.

Here's a short list of some features added to the remake:

- More areas to explore.
- Added cutscenes and improved visuals.
- The original NES Metroid (unlocked after finishing Zero Mission).
- Improved sound effects and soundtrack.
- Added story elements.

Lets start with the differences. The most obvious change is the visuals. Nintendo started off with a clean slate here, and the outcome is a game that looks similar to Super Metroid (for the SNES) or Metroid Fusion. The control takes a page from Metroid Fusion, though Zero Mission seems almost as though it's running at a quicker speed (as noted by the short hangtime during jumps). The sound is also updated, though it's fairly standard stuff here. Although, thankfully, the sound from the Power Bombs won't cause as much problem with your ears, unlike with Metroid Fusion. The music, I feel, is one of the better touches here. For the most part they keep the melodies the same, while also adding a few new ones, but they are updated to GBA quality. The music for the first area would be enough to give any fan of the original game a trip down memory lane. Also, in addition to all this, the game has been expanded with more areas than the original, but given the differences in control the time comparisions between them are extremely relative.

It should also be noted that this game has the original Metroid packed onto the same cartridge as well. All you need to do is finish Zero Mission on Normal and it will be unlocked as an option in the options menu. Better yet, even though the game keep the password system of the original, you are given the option to save that password and bring it up the next time you play. This makes the upcoming release of that very game for the GBA (part of the NES Classics Series) kind of pointless.

That said, the game (focusing back on Zero Mission here) isn't without its flaws. If you've played Super Metroid or Metroid Fusion, something will seem like it's missing here. That may be because of the way the item finding is handled. In fact, most of the items, such as Power Bomb and Space Jump, are found so close to the end of the game that you almost wonder why they included them at all. Along that line, they also left a few doors that can only be opened by power bombs near the earlier parts of the game, which seems pointless because the upgrades behind those doors are just more of the endless missile tank or even power bomb tank upgrades that only upgrade your maximum supply.

Also, the difficulty is very unbalanced. Normal areas are often too easy no matter what difficulty you pick (easy, normal, and hard, the latter of which can only be unlocked after finishing the game at normal difficulty). This in sharp contrast to boss battles with Kraid or Ridley that can be hard to the point of unfairness. In fact, neither GBA Metroid title seems to have the dynamic boss fights that Super Metroid had, and I also feel that game had better pacing with item upgrades as well.

All in all, the game is polished and fun. If you're a fan of Metroid games, this is likely already in your collection, and you'll enjoy the added bits of story (I won't spoil anything here). If you're new to the series, this would be a good entry. If you're looking for something with replay value... well, you'd almost be better off hunting down Super Metroid.

Finally...

Yes...finally. This game is wonderful. Metroid is easily my favorite series of all time , with Zelda following, and this game doesn't disappoint. Being a huge fan of the original Metroid, I was blown away by the idea of it being remade. I haven't been excited about a video game for a while, but Zero Mission had me pretty excited. Playing the game brings back both memories of Metroid and Super Metroid. The gameplay/ Graphics, and the terrain are much more like Super Metroid than Metroid Fusion. Super Metroid is my favorite Metroid game, but Zero Mission is right behind Metroid and Super Metroid. The game is recreated almost flawlessly, with much of the area resemblant to the original Metroid. I'll break it down for you...

Graphics- 10/10 The graphics are great as usual...no complaints here. Much like Super Metroid.

Sound 10/10 Wow...the sound is brilliant. It is all remixes of the original Metroid soundtrack, which had great music to begin with. Take amazing music from an NES game, remix it to todays standards, and you have Metroid Zero Mission. Brinstars and Norfairs theme are wonderful, and also Kraids Lair.Ridleys Lair is also wonderfully redone, with a much more dark sound. Listening to the remixed music brings back memories of sitting in front of the TV playing Metroid all day and having so much fun, definitely a masterpiece aurally.

Gameplay- 9/10 The only minor issue with this game is that it is very short, and the Chozo statues shouldn't have been added to the game. You roll your ball into the Chozo statues hands it it shows you where to go. However, this isnt nearly as bad as the terrible Navigation Rooms in Fusion, which destroyed the entire game. It's only minor here. This game also has a Hard option, but after you beat it it really seems pointless, since the only thing changed on Hard is the fact that the enemies deal more damage and you get less missles/health.

Overall- 10/10 This game is definitely worth all the money, especially since when you beat it you unlock Metroid, possibly the greatest game ever made.

not bad
