Mario Kart Super Circuit is a great racing game, ported form the Nintendo 64 version. The first Mario Kart game for the SNES was hit, but the N64 version added new stunning 3D Graphics, but got got rid of some of the things that made the SNES game so much fun. Mario Kart Super Circuit takes the best of both titles to make one of the best kart-racing games around. It includes 20 new courses to race on. For those of you who have played both the SNES and N64 versions (like I have) you would find this game to be closer to the SNES title, which I personally think is better than the sequel on the N64.
The graphics of this game are similar to the SNES game, but are mind-blowing for a handheld game. Like the SNES and N64 versions it includes 3 modes: GP (Grand Prix), Battle and Time trial. In GP you choose one of 8 characters: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Wario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong Jr. and Bowser, and race in a variety of courses in 50cc, 100cc, or 150cc mode. 50cc mode is the easiest to race in, but in 100cc and 150cc the computer gets a lot faster and more challenging. There are also several items that you getting by running over boxes which help you during the races. Lightning bolts (the rarest item to get) makes all of the other opponents small, mushrooms give you a speed burst, banana peels make one of your opponents crash if they slip on it, red shells are used to shoot directly at an opponent to get them off course, and green shells keep bouncing off the walls until it hits one of the racers. If you earn enough points to win a Cup you'll win trophies. Also if you race well enough and earn enough coins you can unlock new tracks from the SNES Mario Kart title.
In Time Trial mode you race in any of the 30+ courses and try to set records for each lap and/or race.
In battle mode you and a friend choose a character to battle against each other. You drive around a course trying to pop each other's 3 balloons. You pop their balloons by shooting green or red shells at them or throwing banana peels at them. This mode is very fun especially if you get tired of GP mode.
The backgrounds are very colorful, and the individual go-karts are detailed nicely. The music and the sound effects are great as well, and the gameplay is amazing.
If you are looking for a very fun racing game for your GBA, check out Mario Kart Super Circuit. It will provide hours and hours of fun for you.

When I first got this game I was not expecting much at all. But when I turn it on the 3Dness amazed me. And I was instantly hooked. The first time I played, I played for an hour non-stop. There are 8 characters, Mario who is great for beginners, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, Yoshi, DK, Wario, and Bowser (My personal favorite). There are 3 different single player modes.
#1 Mario GP (Grand Prix) mode. In this mode there are 4 cups (one extra), which makes 5. The names of the cups are Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, Lighting Cup, Star Cup, and the Special Cup. The point of those races is to get a gold medal so you can unlock the Special Cup. There are also ranks when you win the gold and silver medal. The ranks are E, D, C, B, and A. Once you beat the game, more cups are opened. There are a lot harder because to open the next cup you must get rank A.
#2 There is time trial. In time trial try to get the best time in Mushroom Cup, which has 4 races. There are called Peach Circuit, Shy Guy Beach, Riverside Park, and Bowser Castle 1. You also try to get the best time in Flower Cup. There are also 4 races in Flower Cup; there are Mario Circuit, Boo Lake, Cheese Land, and Bowser Castle 2. The Lighting cup is also in time trial, the names of the tracks are Luigi Circuit, Sky Garden, Cheep-Cheep Island, and Sunset Wilds. Finally the last race that comes unlocked is Star Cup. In the Star Cup the names of the tracks are Snow Land, Ribbon Road, Yoshi Desert, Bowser Castle. In time trial there are ghosts, which are old records of your best time. The point is to get a better time than your ghosts or the first place time that is a given. Another great thing about this mode is that you can trade ghost data. Which is fun, because it is like trying to beat your friend even though he is not with you.
#3 Quick Run is the third and pretty much the best mode of the game. You race for fun and nothing else. In this mode I love to shoot the weapons. Which are bananas, red shells, three red shells, green shell, three green shells, lighting strike which is the coolest, and the blue shell, which hunts down the first place person. The multiplayer is great too .My favorite mode is battle mode. You have three balloons, the point is to use the weapons on your opponent or bump in to him if you are heavier. Other wise there is normal race for four players, or a toad race for 2.
The game is a great accomplishment Nintendo and should be a model for all GBA racing games. It is a great game for long car trips cause it could almost never get old and is very challenging. It is also a great before bed game. It is a must buy!
THIS IS GREAT!

To start off, i have never played the n64 version or the nes version, so i'm not comparing this game to those games. But mario kart super circuit is one of the best games i have ever played. Its very creative and i really like the gameplay. The idea for the game was really fun, and addicting. The charecters are all great and they all race differently. The music on this game was awesome, they had a different tune for every track! The best thing about the game is that its challenging, there are so mamy tracks to beat(once you unlock the secret ones) i still havent finished the game and i've had it for over six months. But thats okay because it keeps me playing, and it never gets old.I think the game is well worth 30 dollars even if it is from 2001.Overall this game was definately a keeper!
Pros:
great gameplay
fun charecters
40 different tracks
items make game very fun
music is great
graphics are superb
single player or multi player
battles for multi player
addicting
challenging
Cons:
some say it doesnt match up to n64 version
may be too "cutsie"

Out of all the Mario Kart games that's come out(including Mario Kart DS); Mario Kart Super Circuit has to be my most favorite. It takes the best parts of Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 and mix them together to create a whole new Mario Kart experience. There's 40 tracks in all(including the original tracks from Super Mario Kart), eight characters, Grand Prix and Time Trial modes, ghost mode that saves your ghost to the game to trade with other players or for you to race against, and more. The game itself is similar to the Super Mario Kart game but with better graphical and level design, better audio, and an over-the-top presentation. One thing it does and does well is prove just how powerful the Gameboy Advance really is. It, literally, pushes the system to it's limits.
It's a game every Gameboy Advance owner should have in their collection. One I highly recommend to all.

If you like Mario Kart on Nintendo 64, you will like this game on GBA. The graphics are even better and you can take it with you. A couple new features to the game, but nothing spectacular. Can't beat the price!

The smash-hit game that gave rise to a new genre is now entering its third installment as Mario Kart: Super Circuit. The first Mario Kart for the SNES had cleverly designed courses; Mario Kart 64, though it lost some of the appealing aspects of the original, introduced 3-D to improve the graphics; and now Mario Kart: Super Circuit combines the good points of both titles to make one of the best kart-racing games around.
Super Circuit's graphics look similar to those seen in its SNES counterpart (and its other GBA racing companion F-Zero: Maximum Velocity). They are done in Mode-7, but unlike the original Mario Kart, Mario, Luigi, and their six other friends (and foes) almost look 3-D. Music is done in the bright and cheerful Mario tradition, and the voices sound remarkable for a portable system. Yoshi even says "Yoshhiiii!" just like he does in Yoshi's Story, and it sounds just about as good.
Other than different race tracks, Super Circuit doesn't offer much new to the tried-and-true Mario Kart gameplay. You can practice racing on a single track against seven other computer-controlled racers in Quick Run, compete against one to three other human-controlled players in Versus, or set new lap and track records in the Time Trial. A rather nifty additional feature new to this Mario Kart even allows you to trade your record-breaking ghost-self to a friend's game. Of course, the real excitement of Mario Kart: Super Circuit comes in the Grand Prix. Here you'll contend with seven others (computer-controlled) in a series of four races on one of three difficulty settings (50cc, 100cc, or 150cc) in hopes of coming away with the gold. But driving skills alone won't win you races; you'll often have to resort to using banana peels, stars, and even the triple shells taken from Mario Kart 64 to make you the first past the finish line. Best of all, the Grand Prix can be played two-player. This has always been what makes Mario Kart games so much fun. Racing games were meant to be played multi-player, yet in most games of this genre, multi-player seems to be an afterthought -- something the programmers throw in at the last minute. That's why it's nice to see the main one-player mode made for two. Sure, F-Zero: Maximum Velocity lets you enjoy two-player excitement but only against two other computer-controlled vehicles and only on a single course at a time. The Mario Karts, however, allow two players to go up against six computer racers in a series of four races. So get ready to compete for some points and see who gets the gold and who gets the leftovers. Also, like the previous Mario Kart 64, there's a two-to-four-player Battle Mode where each competitor whips shells and banana peels at opponents in an attempt to pop their balloons. This can be fun, but I'm afraid that Super Circuit's four arenas are a little on the small scale and do not provide enough places to hide from your stalkers; it's all right, but I think Mario Kart 64 did it best.
The 20 brand-new race course oftentimes sport intelligently placed shortcuts that are a delightful challenge to discover and use; this is a welcome return to the track designs of the original SNES Mario Kart after the somewhat disappointing absence of course secrets in the N64 version. There are desert, beach, and snow tracks just to name a few, and they are accompanied by outstanding backgrounds: the night sky with the mansion off in the distance for the ghost tracks, the inside of a castle for Bowser's courses, and the mountains with the setting sun (that actually sets as the race goes by) for the desert tracks. Plus, hidden in the game are the 20 original race courses from Super Mario Kart for the SNES, redone with updated graphics to match their Super Circuit counterparts. Wow!
And say you think you're too good for anybody. At the end of a Grand Prix race, depending on how well you've performed (based on your finishing positions, your course times, and the number of coins you've collected during the races), the game will give you a rank ranging anywhere from a lowly E to a lofty triple-star. This way you can compete against yourself, but trust me, it's going to be really hard to get a 3-star rating on every Grand Prix cup and on every difficulty.
With 40 race tracks, four battle arenas, four-player capability, and a two-player Grand Prix, all smoothed-out with excellent graphics and sound, it's amazing to know that it was all crammed into a cartridge practically the size of your thumb. This is definitely my pick for the best kart-racer to date, and it might very well be king amongst the current library of Game Boy Advance games.

Everything about this game shows off the GBA, the scope is small enough that the screen size isn't too small. the graphics are rich and gameplay is fluid.
Additionally this game lasts in replay as you try to better your times in solo mode and its always nice linked, easily the best purchase for my GBA so far.
My favorite game - for now...

This game is nothing short of a masterpiece, and I'll tell you why...
First off, the graphics are some of the best I've seen in any game, and the surprising thing is that this is on a handheld! Every character is so beautifully done, it's hard for me to explain it. Even the backgrounds and roads are so wonderful to look at - On one level, you can watch the volcano, which is actually part of the background, get ready to erupt, and finally do so on the third lap. Another level starts out at sunset, then on the start of the third lap, it turns dark suddenly. Basically, this game's graphics are stunning - basically.
Another high point of the game is its sound. Each different kind of level (jungle, desert, etc...) has different background music, and since there are sometimes more than one type of level, some levels have the same background music as others. Oh, well. It's still great to listen to, and the music fits each level wonderfully. Then there are all the sound effects. Each character has its own set of sound effects. For instance, whenever Toad hits someone with a shell, banana peel, etc... he says "Bingo!" The sound is altogether another great aspect of this game and its high quality.
Playing multiplayer games are also supposed to be fun, but I've never done it myself. But here's what you can do with this game if you have more than one person with a GBA in a group... You can play the game multiplayer. Race against up to three of your friends, even if they don't have this game! This is how it works: the system with the game is hooked up to all the other systems without any cartridges in them, and the system with the game sends data through the GBA link cable, and the systems without the game keeps this data in the GBA's RAM. This data contains the background, character, sounds, etc... that it needs for you to play the level. But if you're playing multiplayer without a cartrdige, you can only play one level. If everyone playing multiplayer with this game cartridge, you can play on any level you want. Also, you can exchange your ghost data with others, and actually race against your friend's ghost! Then you can see who's the ultimate MK:SC player in your group by playing battle mode! In battle mode, everyone starts out with one balloon, and when someone get hit with an item, such as a koopa shell, they lose a balloon. The person left with one balloon wins!
This game does not lack in gameplay, either. There are many games that feature great graphics and sound, but in the gameplay department, those games are horrible, even with their good graphics and sound. Not so with MK:SC. This game is so fun to play, I bring my GBA everywhere, and it always has this game in it. You just can't get sick of playing this game. First of all, this game features three difficulty levels, so when you get good at one difficulty level, you can always move up to the next. The game also features time trials, in which you compete against the clock. So fun. And when you finish, you can even watch a replay of your race. Then, when you go back to race on that level again, you can race against your ghost. Let me explain... when you finish a level in the Time Trials (you just have to finish it - you don't have to win it), it saves you playing that level- every turn - every little move you make is saved. It actually shows you racing. And that's your ghost. You can actually race against your ghost. That adds unlimited replay value to the game.
And, as if this game wasn't good enough, Nintendo added in all 20 levels of the original SNES hit "Super Mario Kart"! But you have to unlock these levels. I don't know how to explain this - you'll jus thave to get the game and see what I mean.
All-in-all, this game is beautiful in every way. there is no excuse for not getting this game. If you don't have a GBA, get one, plus a copy of this game. Now I have to explain the "for now" part of the title of this review. Nintendo has been making video games for over 20 years, and they make great ones! They set a high standard for quality in their games, and it really shows in this game. I wrote "for now" in the title of this review because I didn't get Advance Wars yet, but I will for Christmas. And many say that Advance Wars is better than this game. We'll see...
So get this game. God Bless you, and God Bless America!!!
