This is the best fighting game I ever played next to Tekken 3. It rules, especially the opening cinema.

SoulBlade, is perhaps one of the greatest fighting games with it's variety of moves and weapon usage systems. The Edge Master Mode makes the game playable for a long time, unlike other fighting games. The CG Animations and soundtrack are incredible.

At the camp I go to 4 the summer, Camp James, they have an arcade. The game I always play is Soul Edge. I bought Soul Calibur 2 that way I could play something at least halfway similar at home, but it wasn't similar at all. We ended up returning the game to the store we bought it at, but they didn't give us a full refund. Very dissapointed until I discovered that Soul Blade wuz the exact same game. So if you have played Soul Edge in an arcade and really liked it, definitely get Soul Blade, cuz it's exactly the same. I ordered it used yesterday, and I'm wishing that the stupid mailman would hurry up. If you are even thinking a tiny bit about getting this game, just do it, trust me. It's an excellent game, and they don't make it anymore, since it's a Playstation 1 game. You'll have to hurry, because they could sell out fast. Otherwise, you might have to do something silly, like look on Ebay, or go to Camp James and play it. Shame on Namco for not making this beautiful game 4 the PS2.
Less is actually BETTER!

Who needs 30-40 characters in a fighting game anyway? The characters that are in here are pretty different from each other, making the game really satisfying. Even the "soul strike" move and grab moves are different with each character. Plus, less characters means that you have a chance to master all of them and eventually decide who's your fave, instead of always randomly picking one of the 40 characters who aren't different from each other very much anyway. My point is, don't avoid the game just because of the lack of an extreme amount of characters. It's still fun.
Welcome to the stage of history...

Soul Edge - Circa 1996
GOOD:
- Gameplay is pretty balanced
- Some nice unlockables
- Different and interesting story for a fighter
- Pretty good sound track for a fighter
BAD:
- Graphics looked pretty dated
- Voice-Overs are not so good
IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE:
- Play story mode to unlock new swords characters and costumes
- Plays like Tekken, but with weapons
- Medieval Theme has Ninjas and Samurais fighting Pirates and Knights
GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Tekken 2
- Virtual Fighter 2
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- This is the first game in the Soul Caliber franchise
- In the arcade this game was called Soul Blade

This is a great classic game. I've owned all of the games in the Soul Blade/Calibur series on PlayStation, Dreamcast, and PS2, and this is the one that started it all on consoles. With the return of Li Long in SCIII, it sparked a bit of nostalgic remembrance. (Spoiler Alert; Li Long died in Soul Blade) The graphics are VERY dated, but the gameplay is still great. There's a lot of substance to this game.

Excellent graphics, superb sound track, easy control. What else can I say? From the makers of Tekken comes Soul Blade. Instead of martial arts, this game features weapons. It is superior to the ToShinDen series and rivals the Tekken series.
Although this game is a few years old, it is still one of the best fighting games. Not only will you have hours of enjoyment with your friends, but you will also play single player to get the two secret characters. But more importantly: EDGE MASTER MODE. This story mode enables you to get better weapons than your standard one. You have to win battles with certain stipulations: such as only throwing your oponent, killing 6 in a row, low energy, ring out, etc. This is a very challenging mode, but the rewards are fantastic.
This soundtrack is one of the best for any fighting game. It ranges from classical music to a techno feel to neo-Japanese. The sound effects are top-notch. You can hear sword hit sword or knunchucks hit axes.
The characters have personalities. You can choose from a goddess to a ninja to a barbarian.
If you want hours of enjoyment from a superior game on the PlayStation I would recommend this game. The only drawback- I mean ONLY drawback is that there are only 10 characters to choose from. In this day and age, there are around 20 or 30 characters in fighting games. Other than that, GET THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!

When attempting to decide between the PSX and the N64, I discovered that PSX had Soul Blade. A friend of mine and I had already sunk numerous quarters into the local mall standup. This was my chance to not only play the characters I enjoyed, but to finally be able to afford to learn the others.
Soul Blade is, without a doubt, my fave fighter. The graphics are terrific, the soundtrack is sweeping, and the learning curve is challenging without being over the top. Would I reccommend this title ? Without hesitation. At [the price], it will pay for itself in the first week.
Soul Blade Beats Up Other Fighting Games.

If you had to choose just one fighting game to buy out of all the others, Soul Blade should be it. It has everything you could want in a fighter: jaw-dropping graphics and animation, cool moves, and many different play modes. The different modes of play add a lot of replay value to Soul Blade, and makes you want to keep playing it. The Edge Master Mode actually adds a story to the game for each character, unlike games like Tekken 3. But one of the most innovative things about this game is the different character endings. Each character has 3 different endings, making you want to keep playing it to find out the whole story. The only problem in this game is that the computer always seems to have the upper hand if you both do moves at the same time. But all this for $20! What more could you want? If you like fighting games be sure to pick this one up.
