This Game Is Awesome!!! This game has over 200 pre made wrestlers with different styles like technical, hardcore, and luchador, plus more. There are six different match types. They are: Audience Match- In this match you try to impress the crowd by doing big moves aqnd showboating. The more you do the more points you get. The more points you have the higher you get in the rankings. Survival Match- Similar to WWF's SlobberKnocker bouts. You fight 10 people in a single strech. One Night Match- Just an exibition match. You can choose from single, tag team, battle royal, Mortal Combat (weapons in the ring), and octagon style matches similar to Ultimate Fighting Championship. One Night Tournament- 16 wrestlers fight in a tournament in one night. Open Leauge- Same as one night except the tournement lasts several nights. Elimination Match- Similar to WWF's survival series. This game also has create a player mode so your limitations are endless. And of course the graphics are outstanding because its on GameBoy Advance. Get this game!
First wrestler for GBA is a blast!

Finally the Advance Gameboy is here, and the first wrestler available is Firepro. I have heard much about the series of wreslting titles, and I must say this is a good wrestling game. With a gameplay style a tad different than fighting games I am used to, Firepro is a title that rewards timing and patience. It comes with many wrestlers, and has an extremely indepth create-a-wrestler function. Styles range from typical american pro wrestler to ultimate fighting style, so the type of character you make can have quite a range.
On the downside, the game has no championship mode, where the player would play a "storyline" mode. This seriously hampers replay value, as players are left to fight one-on-one matches without any serious reward. Also, unlike some of the other released games where you could have 4 players play off of one cartridge, Firepro demans that each player have a seperate cartridge as well.
All in all, a good start for the Advance. A good solid wrestler that will have you learning the ins and outs for a while.
Surprisingly little hype for such a runaway hit

FirePro wrestling has a long history in Japan as one of the premier wrestling titles available there. Finally, for the first time ever, it is seeing a USA domestic release on Nintendo's GBA. There are no fancy 3D theatrics here, the action is all 2D, but make no mistake: this game is HUGE. Just check out the roster of wrestlers (and be sure to spot your faves from the WWF, old WCW, and dead ECW, all with names changed to avoid legal wranglings,) the extensive list of moves, the range of match types, and TRY not to drool all over your ring boots.
Honestly, this game has everything. It is tremendously fun, while at the same time being very deep. Don't let the multitudes of poor wrestling games released over the past few years cause you to miss this one. It will be a classic. And along with Tony Hawk 2, comprises the ultimate duo of must-have action titles for the GBA launch.
Not for you, Twitchy

What people might not understand about Fire Pro Wrestling is that it is a technical Wrestling game with controls that should be compared more to a Street Fighter 3 and it's incredibly complex moves system rather than Marvel vs Capcom 2 with it's button mashing action. That's not to say the game is hard or overly complex, but you have to understand the play system before you can expect to win a match.
Most matches can be dissected into the beginning, the middle, and the finish if you are competent at the game. You start by weakening your opponnet to the point where you can use more complex moves on him/her succesfully at which point you must ensure that your wrestler maintains his/her stamina so that you can finish the opponent off through a pin, submission, or beating him/her till the point where they can go on no more.
To do this you have to pay attention to your timing. Winning a grapple is all about timing your move so you can win, throwing a reversal at exactly the right moment, and initiating a running move at the correct distance. If you don't, you're dogmeat.
That's not to say the game can't be picked up easily. I'd say after two hours of matches you can begin to win consistently on a medium difficulty level and begin exploring how to perform more accuratley.
To those who say the graphics are poor, I'd like to bring up the sheer variety in the game in the number of different, costumes, body types, moves, and animations present. Merely customizing a wrestler can provide hours of fun as you swap boots for Ninja shoes and spandex tights for cutoffs. Even the amount of music is impressive as you can set wrestling themes and music to play during the match.
The one fault I can see with Fire Pro Wrestling is the lack of a demo concerning timing of a grapple. That would be very helpful to novice players who are just starting out.
Fire Pro Wrestling is awesome.

This is a great wrestling game. The best for the GBA next to the second version. You have to rename all of the wrestlers you know. This is to protect the copyright issues. A few of the hints to rename a)the nicknames chosen b)the names chosen and c) the finishers chosen.
to unlock the hidden wresters you must go to the EDIT menu
select EDIT SUPERSTAR
go to NAME ENTRY.
on the first line type ALL
on the line below it type STYLES
and on the line next to that type CLEAR.
This should unlock all the hidden wrestlers.
If you haven't played it, don't review it....

Alright first off, the game itself has come under the eye of many hardcore import sega saturn fans that have played the game since it's conception oh so long ago. This is not a normal wrestling game, button mashing will get you next to nowhere. My friends and I are big fans of Fire Pro Wrestling D for the Dreamcast. The timing on the throws is obscenely annoying if you are a noob to the series, otherwise you should fit right in. Also, the hit detection is not very good, but it's what you should expect from the series. The real savior of this cartridge is the same thing that has saved FPW from total extinction, the time honored charm and the in depth character design. The create-a-wrestler is blatantly picky, yet it still remains fun. In conclusion, if you like the series, or are willing to try something thats terribly different from a cliched JAKKS pacific wrestling game, pick this up. Hey, it's portable.
Best wrestling game ever!

In terms of options and playability this is the best wrestling game ever. The ability to make your own wrestler or modify the ones that exist is great you can go as far as to make a roster full of WWF and WCW stars! Pick a ring any ring from electric ropes to steel cage to battle royal! AND the sptites of the wrestlers are easy to recognize. The moves are eaasy to pull off and finally the button pressing fool you play against will loose since it's based on timing not who pushed what first. I love this game and only The Giant Gram series (japanese import for Sega dreamcast)can be held in the same light. This and F-zero are must buy games for this little system.
Finally a good wrestling game

I'm a fan of wrestling video games and hate the play control of games like Smackdown, it's just fancy light effects and button mashing. Fire Pro Wrestling has brought back technique to wrestling games. With over 100 wrestlers, plenty of moves, and the create-a-wrestler , this game totally rocks. My personal favorite is playing in the Electric Cage matches. This game is great!
Patience, Patience, Patience

I'll admit, I didn't think much of this game when I first picked it up. The graphics are not flashy, the presentation is sort of bare-bones, there is no training mode and the mechanics of the game are wildly different from other popular wrestling games. But, give it about two hours.... wow! Not only the best GBA game, but maybe the best game I've bought all year! First of all, if you just practice, you will be able to figure out the game play. It's all about timing. Also, everything is based on percentages, or sort of virtual "dice rolls", almost like a pencil-and-paper RPG, so not everything works everytime. Personally, I've really gotten to like this aspect of the game, as each match is always a challenge and always something different. Also, while the graphics aren't snazzy, there is a lot of animation in the game... there are a vast variety of move. Also, each characters really looks very different. There is a ton of variety. Actually, even if you never played the game, the Create a Wrestler mode is so much fun, you can make almost any imaginable wrestler and set him up with all sorts of "real" wrestling moves. This game will require patience, and younger players might get frustrated with it, but it's almost like an RPG, it's so deep and well thought out. Give it a fair chance.
Best wrestling game.................EVER!

This game was the reason why I bought a GBA in the first place and I don't regret it.
I love the grappling system. It focuses on timing and strategy and is much deeper than any of the WWE(F...whatever) games that I have played.
There are wreslters from WWF, WCW, All Japan, New Japan, Noah, Battle Arts, FMW, MPro, and there are even shoot fighters from Pride and other shoot organizations. The wrestlers are renamed to avoid lawsuits but you can change their names.
My favorite feature is the way your matches get rated for how good they were. This means if you truly want to be good at the game, you have to beat the wrestler and please the audience. This alone has kept me playing for nearly a year now.
Anyways if you like wrestling games then you shouldn't miss this game.
