This is a good game, but has some major design flaws.

Warhawk for PS3 is a good game. The online experience creates a very fast paced game environment which is ruined by "glitchers, and cheaters." None the less, I enjoy playing Warhawk very much. Also, the ranking up system leaves a bit to be desired. The game proports to have customizable look and feel for your character and aircraft, however you can only unlock these things after ranking up, which appears to be tedious at best. I got a couple of rank ups quickly, but was soon disappointed by the unlocked items. Honestly, I'd rather have had the game content unlocked from the start.

From their literature "You can play the game however you want..." implying that you could always choose to drive a tank or always be a ground troop. However they fail to mention that you'll never make it past certain ranks if this is how you want to play the game, and you won't unlock all of the content. So, let me say this to Insomnia Games, "You can't have it both ways, choose to say that you can customize your stuff, or choose to say you can play it any way you want, you can't say both the way it is currently setup."

What this state of affairs leads to: Cheating, glitching, and rank up servers. These servers are dedicated to getting people rank up. I was reading one forum about flag throwing, so you can increase the number of points you get per game, and I also experienced the "tank" glitch myself personally. This kind of behavior is of course frowned on by the server administrators. I can't help but think that originally this game probably was going to have a mission oriented single player campaign in which you could also gain rank, and it was scrapped at the last minute because it was too much work, and the deadline was coming up for release.

So lets take stock in what we really have. We have a bunch of hosted games, with fast and furious battles, on a very small number of maps. This means that the folks in the beta test know these maps so well that new players have a very hard time playing. Every little trick and nook or cranny in the map is known very well. The learning curve is steep, and the controls of the airplane are not configurable enough. I would be very happy if you could customize the look inversion on the gunsight for the airplane, but you can't, so I constantly look the wrong way with the guns. So what do we have? 4 maps, 3 game types. I can tell you now it will tire quickly as you are repeatly blown up by people who know the maps by the back of their hands.

Sincerely,

Ira Carmel.

A PS3 Must Have

Where to start....This is the best game I have played on the ps3 so far! It is loads of fun, fly in a WarHawk, go on foot, get in a jeep, in a tank, and if you get that Omega Dawn booster pack from PSN (playstation network), you can comandeer a dropship. I stayed up playing this game till 3:00am! I couldn't get enough of it. If you have a PS3 and do not have this game, go and buy it now (if you have online play for it)!

I am not buying XBOX for HALO

I did not know what to expect when I first put this game in my PS3 and then was very quickly amazed by the results. At that immediate time I was planning on purchasing an XBox 360 when halo 3 came out, but quickly changed my mind as this game might be hard for even halo to match. The graphics are amazing and as far as an online experience is concerned, it is unparalleled. There is no lag whatsoever. I found that this is one of the only games that I have every played where I was actually getting addicted to the game while I was being slaughtered during the learning process.
There is, however, only one thing that I think would make this game any better and it is complete preference on my part, is that if the shooter mode when you are not in one of the many vehicles that you have to choose from, your view is 1st person. I just think it would be easier to manover around.

Bottom line.....Buy this game, and make sure that you blink while your playing it.

One of the best games to hit the PS3 yet

Originally envisioned as a launch title for the Playstation 3, WarHawk was re-thought from the ground up as a multiplayer-only title that shows some of what the PS3 is capable of. Naturally, WarHawk is one of the best games to hit the PS3 yet, and is also one of the most fun multiplayer experiences you'll have on a console. If you remember the original WarHawk (released way, way, way back for the PS1) you can expect some of the same type of gameplay here, only now you aren't just limited to attacking in the air, but you are on foot and in land vehicles as well. Combine this with the fact the game supports play for 32 players over a horde of different maps and such and you can already see what makes WarHawk so appealing. The game looks simply amazing, and the controls using the SixAxis controler are spectacular to say the least. It should also be noted that WarHawk is also available through download at Sony's online Playstation store with a cheaper price tag. Which version to lay down the cash for is up to you, but the hard copy of WarHawk includes a Bluetooth Headset, which comes in pretty handy considering the game takes full advantage of voice chat options. Other than that, the only downsides to WarHawk are some slight choppiness and the fact that a single player campaign would have at least been a nice addition for those whose online options aren't immediately available, but then again, the game is geared towards a specific audience after all. All in all, WarHawk isn't the killer app that PS3 fans have been looking forward to, but it's still a sight to behold on it's own merits, and it's definitely one of the best, exclusive games to hit the PS3 yet.

When i first heard about it, i wondered how much fun it was going to be flying plays and shooting others, OVER and OVER and OVER AGAIN....

I actually purchased the game (PSN network, download only) to find that there was so much more to the game.

Planes, Automobiles, Tanks, Turrets, and you can just run on foot if you wish.

THE GAME IS a bit complex when you start. once all the controls have finally settled in, and you understand the map/modes, the game is awesome. And youll never be playing alone, as there are tons of people online at this very moment playing the game.

CONs
-if you dont have a HIGH SPEED network, then the game probably isnt for you
-If you dont have a headset, communication will be hard, granted its not that big of a deal.
-After awhile, what is there to do?

NOW this game is truly detailed, an ok soundtrack, but its amazing how well and smooth the game is. Once youve logged on, the game because amazing.

I would recommend if you enjoy online combat

Fun For All

In short, this game is fun for everyone. It takes a few games to learn each map, and then the gameplay is quick and exciting. You can fight on foot, in ground vehicles, and/or by air. Up to three buddies can join you online or offline at any time via splitscreen (no additional software or PlayStation Network accounts required). Note there is no single-player campaign.

The controls are tight and easy to pick up. I like how the button functions are consistent across modes. Joining an online game is a snap. Games are mostly lag-free (just remember to forward ports if you are behind a firewall). However, it is difficult to get into "ranked" 32-player games. The graphics are sharp on a HDTV, but not third-generation exceptional. The included headset is adequate and easy to setup. Voice chat is better than what I have experienced on XBOX Live, but most people do not talk.

I am a fairly casual gamer. I usually do not play FPS games, except for Halo, which was easy to pick up and play for the non-hardcore. For example, R:FoM was not my cup of tea. I think this game will appeal to those outside the hardcore FPS crowd. I would give this game a solid 8.5 out of 10.

Finely tuned online warfare

Warhawk is a very impressive game on many levels. At a glance it has huge environments, beautifully colored and detailed textures and frantic non-stop action.
The real beauty of the game though are it's controls. The impressive feat of taking the sixaxis PS3 controller and adapting it to fit several different vehicles/modes has been accomplished. The ground combat controls are very good, however the flight controls are exquisite. I cannot stress enough how satisfying it is to watch your warhawk soar through the air, loop through circles and barrel rolls and powerslide through rock formations with afterburners flaring.
Game modes are fairly typical and don't take any risks, matches are fast and brutal. Each tactic has a counter, and no abuseable combos are apparent.
Warhawks main weakness currently are the server/online interface, which seems dated and lacks some important features and filters for finding matches. This is compounded by some beta-level bugs and disconnects that are plaguing many of the initial players, though Incognito has promised patches are on the way. Fine tuning the match finder interface, adding filters to exclude full matches, and adding a quick match auto-join option should take this game to a near perfection level as far as online warfare goes.

Highly recommended from an old school fan of Starsiege Tribes and Planetside.

This is a awesome game. The graphics are superb and the game play is just beyond belief. You have a choice of being in the warhawk or running/driving on the ground. That's what makes this a great game because you can be the king of the sky but if you aren't paying attention one man on the ground arming a SAM battery will destroy you in a second.

Game play-

First, there is no single player. There is multiplayer online or local lan.

You can control the warhawk with the Siaxxis motion controls. You can use that or the sticks and the game doesn't have the Siaxxis motion controlls as the default anymore. I did not have a problem with the motion controls though, they were pretty fun and very responsive. The warhawk can either be flown like a plane or in mid flight you can go into hover mode which allows you to strafe to the left, right, up, down or just sit there. Also in hover mode you can land your aircraft, run around and kill people then either get back into your plane or steal someone else's.

Warhawk unique weapons-

Stealth for 100 secs
Lightning zapper
Guided missile (I usually hover around the back of my base and steer this across the map. Range is about half the map)
Air mines

For vehicles there is one jeep with a gun mount and 2 types of tanks. Not as fun as the warhawk but useful in taking out SAM Battery's and the guns that shoot exploding rounds(I don't know the name) or just running people over. On a side note, a tank can take out a warhawk if the person tries to hover kill you.

There are pretty much the kind of weapons you inspect to see on ground troops except-

Binoculars - These have a green laser that you can fire onto a target which will call in an airstrike.

Mine - Can stick to anything, haven't tried people yet. Stick them on warhawks, loads of fun.

Knife - The only reason the knife is being mentioned is because use of it makes you unseen on the radar screen.

Network -
There are ranked games (highlighted blue) and user defined games(highlighted in white). Obviously ranked games allow you to progress in the online ranking system. ONLY ONE PERSON PER CONSOLE CAN BE INVOLVED IN A RANKED GAME. User defined games have the option to "Allow split screen" which lets more than one person play on one console however that is up to the person who created the room. Can't find a room you would like to play in? Create your own. You can set up the maximum rank allowed to join the game. You can also make it so people cannot use a MIC in the game, select 5 or 6 maps that will allow you to have a variation in scenary when new games begin, allow up to 32 players to play at once, etc... The list is pretty long but you get the idea, a lot of customization per game play.

I have played the 32 man online games with no lag whatsoever. That itself is stunning.

Lastly-
If you don't want the bluetooth headset, buy the game online. Its only a 768MB download. Took an hour wirelessly to download and 2 mins to install. Also saves you 20 dollars plus tax on the game. However this locks the game to use by one specific account in a 24 hr period. So if you have kids who want to play, if they play on their account first only their account can play warhawk for the next 24 hours. Sucks for people with kids, but if you don't have them or roommates then you are golden.

PRO -
Unique weapons
Huge maps
Great Graphics
No Lag
Multiple ways to play the game (plane or on the ground)
Multiple people can play online using one console
Anybody can play
After 5 hrs of straight play, I still enjoyed it.

Cons-
Need more ground vehicles, but this issue is supposed to be addressed in 08
Too many SAM Battery's ;P

This game is a must buy for the PS3. However you buy it is up to you.

I waltzed into my local Gamestop and was prompted to reserve any number of new games by the guy running the shop. I saw Warhawk was coming out the next day. I'd wanted a Bluetooth headset but had never gotten around to buying one, so I went ahead and reserved a copy. When I got it home the next day, I just fiddled around with the headset then figured I might as well try the game. That was the last move I made for the next 6 hours as I could not even attempt to tear myself away from the screaming action on-screen.

Teamwork is the name of the game, figuratively anyway, with Warhawk. In one high octane game of capture the flag, 3 of us ran into the enemy's bombed out base and grabbed the flag. We grabbed the nearest vehicles we could find, which happened to be tanks, and took off like bats out of hell. All of a sudden 3 enemy planes (which are called Warhawks) were on our tail, firing off rockets and machine gun rounds like there was no tomorrow. 2 of us dropped back and attempted to distract the Warhawks while the flag carrier went on ahead.

I got on my Bluetooth and yelled for back-up from any friendly Warhawks in the area. 3 guys showed up and took out the preoccupied enemy Warhawks in short order.

We then formed a convoy and chased after the flag-carrier, catching up with him just in time to try to fight off a group of enemy tanks and jeeps assaulting him from a knoll. He fell to their firepower and dropped the flag just as I fled my burning and decrepit tank. I grabbed the flag and manned the machine gun on a nearby teammate's jeep. We tore back to base, barely holding off more enemy Warhawks and jeeps. In a desperate gambit, I lept from the jeep, vaulted a wall and returned the flag to our base to achieve victory.

Oh how sweet that victory was...

Almost perfect, but I wish it had a single player game

I just downloaded this game from the Playstation store, and it's a lot of fun. I find myself going back to this game more than any of the other games I own for the PS3. My only gripe with this game is that there is no offline, single player game. A single player game would be great to practice your skills and prepare yourself for the chaos that awaits you when playing against online opponents. I am by no means a hard core gamer. I might play it for an hour a day at the most. So it's kind of frustrating to get into a game, find a warhawk, and then get shot down by some techno-geek who's been playing this game non-stop for the last 5 days. I consider myself lucky if I can fly the warhawk longer than a couple of minutes. Also, I don't know if it's just me, but my rockets seem to do very little damage to the other planes, yet I seem to get killed with a single rocket all the time.

The best advice I can give to new players is to find a game with the least amount of players, and that should give you a chance to fly around a bit and figure out what you're doing without getting killed right away.

Pros: Fun to play. Easy to connect to servers and find a game. Easy to figure out how to play (you really don't need instructions, so the $39.99 online price is a bargain, and I rarely, if ever, hear anyone talking through the headset)

Cons: No single player game. No "training" mode. Too many hardcore gamers waiting to kill you the second you enter a warhawk.

Overall, a good game and a good purchase. Just be patient and give yourself some time to figure the game out, even though you'll probably get killed a thousand times in the process.
