Great game! My 4yr. LOVES it! Plays it almost every day! The graphics are really nice and there are 3 levels (easy, med, hard), so he can play it differently as he gets older. Good buy!
I really wanted to give this game a higher rating, but it did not deserve a higher rating

Spider-Man the Movie game for Game Cube had the potential to be great, but falls short due to the fact that Spiderman is a wimp and a sucka that can be beaten up by a street thug in this game. By the way, I have had to write this review more than once as it seems like my previous review has been accidentally deleted or something of the sort so I am going to keep it short this time. The game follows only parts of the movie and has a few additional supervillians: Shocker, Scorpion, and Vulture. These additional villians are a good thing since they make the game new and refreshing from the movie. Spiderman is one of the best 3D designed models out there and the movie-like cinematics are fantastic. Play this game on Normal difficulty and everything is fine, but play it on Superhero difficulty and it is atrochious. The enemies on Superhero difficulty seem to have a constant lock on Spiderman even when Spiderman is attached to a ceiling way above them and they cannot see him. Plus, three hits or so from an ordinary street thug and Spiderman's health reaches zero. It is a bunch of crap. This matter is only made worse by the fact that Spiderman's combos are much less effective on Superhero difficulty than on Normal difficulty. The camera angles during web-swinging particularly when you have to make tight turns while chasing an enemy are atrocious at times. Spiderman can unlock oodles of three-button combos in this game, but only a few of them are actually effective, especially in the final fight against the Green Goblin. And I found at least one case in which a combo was identical to another combo with completely different buttons and name. I doubt that this crap with identical combos is a gliche that simply occurred on my Spiderman copy that I purchased from Sam Goody for $20. Spiderman has no sort of fighting skills in this game because he is a wimp and a sucka in this game. Spiderman does have some cool abilities though like web-zipping and web tactics such as the web dome and impact webbing. This game was still fun while it lasted, but it also was far from the spectacular game it could have been. By far my favorite Spiderman games are Maximum Carnage and Separation Anxiety on the Sega Genesis. Nintendo, Sega, or whoever should remake these games for the Game Cube as I would be willing to pay $50 or more for these games. However, please do not come out with some port of a Sega Genesis game.

This game isn't nearly worth what I payed for it. The camera for the game is backwords and you can't fix it, and it has other camera glitches that get very irritating. I decided to get a cheat so I could play the last level instead of wasting my time, but five minutes looking for the cheat wasn't worth playing the last level. I beat spider-man 1 for the playstation 1 at least 7 times and I would recommend it instead of spider-man the movie if you have a playstation 1. (...)
im sorry this games pathetic

Im sorry i just dont understand why it got peoples choice but i hate it. but the graphics are all right and the fighting is all right thats why it got 2 stars. But its just way to simple even on hard mode.

A key part of the marketting machine for summer blockbusters is a tie-in game. Usually these are horrible efforts, lacking originality, taking major liberties and expecting the license to sell the resulting mess. Amongst a sea of these, Spider-Man is a tie-in game done right.
The story of the game is similar to the film but also takes cues from the comics as well as some ideas from the game creators. You start off on the trail of Uncle Ben's killer, swinging from roof top to roof top to try and get information from local thugs (the implausibility of them all being on the rooftops as they are is nicely spoofed in the dialogue of a side quest). This leads you to a warehouse where you discover your Uncle's killer is a gang leader. You have to battle through the rest of his goons to ultimately get a showdown with him. Afterwards the game has you facing off against well known Spidey villains as well as OsCorp, who are after Spidey to study his blood for their human enhancement serum. After getting familair with all your skills and staying one step ahead of OsCorp's efforts, your greatest enemy enters onto the stage- the sinister Green Goblin.
The range of combat available is impressive. The game takes Spidey's webbing and agility into account to create some interesting attacks. Web enemies up, swing them around and even go for a piggy back ride. Your attacks can be upgraded by collecting golden spider icons hidden throughout the levels. The more attacks you unlock, the more fun you can have combining them into cool combos to take out enemies. The levels are large enough to encourage exploration and experimentation. That's not to say that there isn't problems- in the outside levels, trying to go down to the sidewalk will cost you a life. You're stuck just swinging from building to building and fighting airborne enemies. Thankfully this has been corrected for the sequel.
Completing a level requires you to fill mission objectives. For example, you may be required to help the police fight thugs, rescue civillains in peril or keep up with a fleeing villain. If you know where you're going you should have no trouble completing the neccesary tasks.
The game has some star voice talent in the form of Toby Maguire, Willem Dafoe and Bruce Campbell. Maguire's work as Spidey is a mixed bag- sometimes he nails his lines and other times he sounds like he wants to be elsewhere. Spidey will throw out random quips as you play, which your enemies will reply. Call them ugly and they'll tell you where to shove it. Sadly, the game seems to favour the same one liners over and over which can get annoying. Dafoe plays Norman/the Goblin as well as he did in the film. He really seems to be enjoying himself and makes Goblin the menacing villain he needs to be. Campbell brings his well known humour to the game. He's the narrator for the training levels and the in game tips you'll encounter early on. He brings a spirit of fun to the proceedings, coming out with some of the best lines of the game. Didn't take the training levels before you started playing the game? Campbell will put you in your place.
A fun part to the game is the cheats and unlockables. A well thought out bowling mini-game, animation tests and the ability to play the game as the Goblin are waiting for players who rack up enough points. The Goblin is well worth unlocking. Although the levels are the same as Spidey's, the Goblin (Norman's son Harry looking for answers) has different powers including super speed, pumpkin bombers and the Goblin glider.
In all, a great game and a display of how tie ins should be done. The sequel may have improved on most areas, but the original is still worth picking up.
DO NOT BUY!!

This is one of the best games I've ever played!! One of the best features is that not only do you get to play spiderman but you get to play other characters like Shocker, Mary Jane, thugs, a scientist, Peter Parker in his wrestling costume, and the best villian of all, the Green Goblin. I rented this game at a video store but my mom is going to buy it for my birthday.
Spidey's cool!!!

Ok, this game isn't the best... the slow loading and level stuff is bull crap, and some of the villains (vulture, shocker) could be better, but everything else is absolutely awesome. It's true to Spiderman, you can do everything he can, even though his "spidey sense" is a bit strange (little yellow !s shoot out of his head), but this game is great, the cheats are awesome (you can even mix and match the player altering cheats, to have a Mini-Matrix character) the gameplay is great, but the story line is slightly choppy with the level loading. The Graphics are good, and there is some very funny dialogue, and the training sessions? not dull at all. Very humorous voice, says stuff like "Back when I was a kid, My family would go to my grandparents farm, and my grandpa would always say "Billy... You gotta jump through the rings. when you jump through the rings, they'll turn the color of your grammas peach cobbler" of course, none of us had any clue what he was talking about"
YOU CAN EVEN PLAY "SPIDERMAN BOWLING!!!" There are many hilarious hidden features, such as bad looking movie pictures in the background of one scene, and in the bowling ally there is a gallery of "bowling hall of famers" that is actually the production crew, and there's a picture of a dogs head on one of them. EVERYTHING BAD IS GETTING FIXED IN THE SEQUEL!!! I can't wait till it comes out, it sounds great!
