I originally intended to buy an XBox 360 at launch (now glad I didn't) but deferred due to Oblivion dropping out of the launch titles. Bought my 360 this Sunday so that I could play Oblivion on my HDTV instead of a wimpy LCD monitor screen. The graphics look stupendous as long as you're above 480P. The collector's edition seems worth it for 10 extra bux as the coin is actually a cute trinket and the guide to the empire is actually quite nice, though I have watched the making of dvd yet. Of course my standard disclaimer is - if you loved Morrowind, this appears to be Morrowind under heavy improvement. If you hated Morrowind... why are you even reading this?

WOW whatever.....Damn Great feeling

I am fairly new to the role playing games myself. And having never played any of the precursors to this game, I was going to just allow it to pass me by at first. Until a friend of mine talked me into it, it has been the best buy for my 360 yet!
For someone new to the games the first person view takes a little getting used to, but after you master that, the world is your playground. There are so many ways to customize your play and character (I must confess I spent at least an hour just creating my character). This game has left me wanting for absolutely nothing, from the perfectly synced conversations and breathtaking graphics, to the vast character development options. This has to be one of the greatest games out there.

best RPG since Ocarina of time.

I was lured into purchasing this game for my Xbox360 based on the high scores this game consistently received in both professional reviews and user reviews. I can honestly say that it was $60 well spent. I have never really considered myself to be an RPG type of gamer, instead preferring to play first-person shooters that brought the action fast and furious from the start. Like I said, I was intrigued by all of the positive feedback received on this game and thought I'd give it a try. All I can say is...WOW!!!. This game truly is amazing and the gameplay is actually fun. Every time I sit down to play this I find myself in awe of the world that Bethesda has created. It truly is breath-taking from a purely "digital" sense. I have barely scratched the surface of this game and already I am hooked. I can't wait to get home from work, get the chores done (dishes cleaned, garbage taken out, dog walked, etc.) so I can get back to this "experience". I say experience because that's truly what this game is...an experience. If you are "on the fence" about getting this game...get off and go buy it. You won't regret it!!! I promise!!!

I have already reviewed the pc version of this game and there's not much difference. What more can I say about this fantastic game. I purchased the collector's edition, so there is a little difference in what the game comes with. The collector's edition comes with an additional dvd that shows basically how the game was made. It also comes with a small guide book to the world of Tamriel and its environs and a replica septim coin. Other that that, the game's the same. I have already beaten the main quest on this game and there are still quite literally hundreds, maybe thousands, of side-quests left. Can you say open-ended game play? Quite possibly the best rpg ever made.

Wow, this game is AMAZING!

I got this game, put it in my 360, pretty excited but went in just thinking this is going to be another one of those "lord of the rings" type games with a certain path or mission. I get past the first part of this game and i am blown away. Literally. The graphics on this game are stunning. The thing that really caught my eye is the cycles of the days, how realistic they are. Gameplay is incredible, and the fact that basically anything is possible in this game had me hooked. Do the missions? You can, if you want. Or you can go be a gladiator in the arena, or become a murderer, theif, assasin, or whatever you see fit for you. You can chose your race, gender, skin color, age, from the most general to the smallest details. So, what do i say about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? Outstanding. Get it, you will get hooked from the moment you play this game.

ADDICTIVE GAME

OK...when buying or renting this game, take the week off, stockpile food and other necessities, pull down all the blinds, take the phone off the hook and lose yourself roaming this vast and amazing world with its cites and countrysides.. discovering hidden shrines, caves, sewers and ruins... allowing yourself the joy of the journey. The choices and ways to play this game are endless. Each aspect of the game is lovingly crafted ...right down to the accuracy of the different herbs and their properties. When you leave the game and return to the "real" world, you walk out into the bright daylight dazed and disoriented as a result of this "imagination jetlag". Yet, in spite of the brilliant work and loving detail, the designers fell short with the ending. Unlike, say, God of War or Devil May Cry..You make your choices and build your power, endurance, stamina and wealth....only to watch Martin deal with the final boss. I am at a loss. Why do they take you through such pains to build yourself up so much only to let the CPU fight the final boss. Perhaps I'm missing something.. Sort of makes the choices and the gathering of power and abilities rather fruitless really... unless you want to use your superpowers or superabilities to run errands for other people-SIGH! BUt all and all, it's a great game and very addictive...especially to all of us armchair travelers...a great buy..well worth the money!!

I can't get enough of this game!!!

This game is absolutely amazing. I, like some others that have already reviewed this game, didn't like Morrowind. A couple of my friends loved the Morrowind game and "forced" me to try it, and I just couldn't get into it. So naturally, I was a little worried about ordering this game, but just from seeing the screen shots, and hearing about all the things you can do in the game, I was willing to take the risk. Needless to say, the risk was well worth it. As my title says, I can't get enough of this game. I work full time, so I can't play 24/7, but I would if I could! As others have said, the graphics are absolutely beautiful, the game play is immensely diverse, and the landscape just rolls on and on and on. As of my last game save, I believe I had clocked about 63 hours of play, and I haven't even begun the main quest line yet (you can do the main quest line whenever you want, but I've just been busy doing the seemingly limetless side quests)...not to mention the fact that I've only ventured into one Oblivion Gate, and there are MANY of those to "close". So if you're into RPG games at all, you need this one. If you're like me, the first person views were what drove you away from Morrowind. However, in this game it doesn't bother me at all. It just seems natural this time around to see the gorgeous world of Oblivion from the eyes of your character.

Anyway, enough about the game itself. You should know you need it by now. As for the actual Collector's Edition package...

I was very impressed with the content of the Collector's Edition package. I'm a huge fan of anything Collector's of Special edition...I always need those editions, and this one was worth the extra $10. I was worried that the replica Septim (Tamriel's official currency) would be cheap, and maybe made of hollow plastic or something. However, I was pleased to find that it's a heavy, solid metal coin. It feels like real currency. that's just a cool thing to have, even if it isn't legal tender. :) The "pocket guide to the empire" is quite nice as well. The small brown book details the history of the land, and gives you an understanding of each race's background; where they came from, how they were significant to Tamriel's founding, etc. As for the "making of the game" documentary DVD, I haven't watched it yet because I'm afraid of spoiling a part of the game for myself. I never watch things like that until I'm done with the game. But, considering how well done everything else in this package is, I'm sure the DVD is quite awesome as well.

Well that's my review. I don't want to explain many things inside the game itself, because I don't want to risk ruining anything for any of you, so I'll just leave it at this...You need this game. Seriously. For those of you that get it: ENJOY! Now I'm gonna go play some more...
