The wait was worth it. F1 2000 is everything I hoped it would be and more. It is very realistic, down to the sounds that the cars make, even the temperment of the drivers is accurate. The game is easy in standard mode, but almost impossible to win unless you extend the races to at least 8 laps. Car setup is very real, novice drivers will learn alot about race car setup and telemetry. So far the best racing game on the market, will be better when the force feedback steering wheel is out. I tried the V3 but it is still not right.
Accurate, Best F1 Game yet, Excellent

The best Formula 1 game I've ever played. EA did an excellent job getting the game out so soon. I'm sure graphics and gameplay will keep getting better; however this game was still excellent. The tracks are extremely accurate, even many of the sponsors are included (minus Tobacco Co's of course).
The graphics / sounds / etc. are very good compared to previous similar games as would be expected on PS2.
Game play is very real, I've gotten first on every track except Monacco, mine (and probably everyone else's) Achilles Heal. The best part about the game play is all the options that allow you to make the game more and more real.
My big screen TV makes 4 player mode AWESOME, its so much fun.
Definately a recomended by for any Formula 1 fans, or just plain ol' racing fans (better than all the Nascar and Indy games where you go in circles!)

The one player mode in this game is great. It has beautiful graphics and unmatched F1 sounds (you can actually hear the wind when passing signs). No opions on building your own driver/car, but I love the Bimmer the way it is anyway, and it would make it difficult to perform as a team if it offered custom cars. I love the fact that up to 4 people can play at a time (22 people in a time trial mode), but I haven't found a way to race friends, and the regular grid which was a slight disapointment. I'm not so sure the wrecks are very realistic, I have been pretty rough on my car and only destroyed it beyond repair once, but the pit stops are beautiful, and the paint gets scrached from debris throughout the race. I would definatly recomend this game for the F1 enthusiast, but due to the level of difficulty, it may not be for everyone. Thanks for reading. Anubis 328

Read _Going Faster_ before you judge a game such as this.
Unlike GT3, which I also have and have completed, this game takes real driving skill, not always found in a game. The lines are there, but aren't obvious, and if you are not on the line, you will go slow, and get passed. The starts are very realistic -- spin the wheels and you can forget about the race, assuming you qualified near or at the top.
The handling is superb, and the feel of the game is very good. Unlike GT3, if you go bashing off of other cars in the corners, or anywhere for that matter, you can once again forget about the race.
The graphics are excellent, nothing gets in your way, and nothing is over done. If you are truly focused on the game, the only graphics that matter is the track directly ahead. It does have rear-view mirrors. Learn to use them -- they are realistic and don't take up a quarter of the screen. The weather creates very different scenarios. From dry to damp to wet to pouring, they are all there. There is no on/off weather.
The settings make enormous differences, if you are qualified to play the game, you will notice *major* differences between all of the settings.
Unfortunately, the average game player doesn't have any real-world skills to back up his/her personal ability assessment with video games, and games such as this suffer in their reviews.
Wait until you are able to beat the field by 1.5 seconds on *every* track, in the hardest setting, with damage, penalties, fuel use, tire wear, no assists of any kind (including arrows), and failures on. Win the Championship hands down. Then rate the game. It will be positive.
If you are looking for a fun bash-em-up racing game, save your money and stick with GT3 or some other racing toy game. This is the real deal, and can be extremely frustrating, particularly if you have never driven in real life. F1 teams use games such as this to get more familiar with new tracks. Doesn't that say enough?
Truly Impressive Simulation

If the first reviewer would spend some time with the game, it becomes terribly apparent that much of his bemoaning is misdirected. After setting a satisfactory qualifying time, you can escape the qualifying session. Of course EA would not require the player to sit through the entire hour qualifying session. Moreover, steering wheel lock can be modified. After reading such a negative review, I am not sure the first reviewer spent any time at all playing the game. To those F1 fans seeking a good simulation, this is your PS2 game.

EA has managed to bring all of the excitement of Formula 1 to the playstation 2 in an awesome package- the graphics show incredible detail and doesn't suffer from the jaggies that show up in NASCAR when there's a lot of action on the screen. The controls are very responsive, and all of the teams/drivers are there. I wish there were even more customizability of the car options than the somewhat simple options that are there even in advanced mode... but that said, there's enough in this game for the arcade racing fan to people looking for a realistic sim. There's some tough computer AI which mimics the real life counterpart drivers when you crank up the difficulty, although it is missing some of the features of the PC version, but these can be forgiven as F1 is arguably the best racing title available on the PS2 (until GT3 is released).

This has been my first experience with a PS2 racing game. My husband and I are big F1 fans are were looking forward to reliving some of the past season's highlights with this game. The graphics are awesome and the sounds are great, too. This is definitely not a game where you can spend a few minutes and figure it out. This game takes time. You pick your car, you figure out what the different set-ups (downforce, tires, gearbox etc) do and you hit the track. On the first rounds all you try to do is keep your guy on the asphalt! I have played racing games with steering wheels before and found those easier to maneuvre than this one with the regular PS2 controller. A PS2 compatible wheel will be my next purchase I guess. The warmup sessions and qualifying are good to practice the driving. I found it very difficult to concentrate on all the information on the screen in the beginning, and the complete race set-up definitely needs some practice. Overall it is a very elaborate and fun game, but take your time to figure out all the different things!
Meets, but doesn't exceed expectations

This is a great game. It met all of my expectations. But coming from EA Sports, it doesn't exceed them. The commentarist's voice is the same as FIFA 2001, which is kinda weird, but really doesn't matter. What I found surprising was the lack of commentary during the actual race. No commentary takes place when you take the lead, or crash, etc. That kinda left me with an empty feeling. The game's odd way of saving games isn't convenient if you choose to play different championships at one time. Another upset was the fact that you can't create your own team or car. After owning Madden 2001, I am quite spoiled with all of the neat customization features offered by EA Sports' title launch game. But FIFA 2001 doesn't match up to Madden's customization features, and F1 doesn't either. The gameplay however is outstanding. This is a driver's game. It doesn't offer lots of eye candy (it does have excellent graphics though). If you like Formula racing, you'll love this game. EA's reputation was somewhat hurt with Nascar 2001, but this game makes up for it. Very enjoyable, and very addicting.
Best F1 game, but not the best racing game...

I love racing games, and this is the best F1 game you can buy. It will deliver many hours of fun F1 racing for all racing fans as myself. EA Sports will never let you down with a poor quality game. I expect EA will improve the racing experience in future versions of the game, because in my opinion, the GT3, has taken the experience and fun of racing games to another level. So, my advise is, if you have the GT3...buy this game also, but if you have the money for one game, take first the GT3.
