Wish More PS/One Options Were There...But Very Good!

If you have not seen or played the standard Playstation version of this game, you would probably give it five stars! However, there are a few things missing from the PS/One version that I wish were there. Here are a few you might miss...
- being able to check car settings during practice (see how much you are stressing the engine)
- the commentary from your crew chief is missing (how much the car behind you is gaining, or come into the pits for new tires)
- speed up the timer during qualifications and see who is on the track.
- wish the downshifting pops from the car were there!
Other than those (and a few others), the game is great and the graphics and sounds are wonderful!!! I would like to have seen a difference in sound between the different cars (since they do sound different in person) and different sounds depending on your driving angle (in car, behind car, bumper cam, etc). But that's just me wishing for everything!
Remember, there is always next year's release!!! Go ahead and buy it, if you like F-1! It's great!!!
OK, but leaves room for improvement

The game offers stunning graphics and sound. You find all the cars, track and teams/drivers of the 2000 season. The player can select from single races, championship or arcade play modes. All in all I enjoy playing the game but I just wish it would be closer to reality in some aspects. The top speed is too low no matter how you set the car up you rarely get 300km/h. Also the gear box ratios are questionable: e.g. 1st takes to 160km/h. The speed you take through corners is mostly too high, so you can go flat out in 7th through the chicanes in Monza, Hockenheim or Spa. The qualifying time table only shows the total lap time. Those the FIA offers show sector times so you could check how you do in comparison with other drivers and learn about their setup. The qualifying mode definitely lacks a FastForward mode, the fact that tracks get faster is ignored. The warm-up is too long (60min). Also I wish the weather would change and not stay consistent throughout the whole race. If you select tire wear you have to pit every 8 or 9 laps to replace them. I think the technical basis of the game is well executed but it could be a lot better if some of those details were better solved.
Almost There!!

EA Sport did a fairly good job with this game. For a true F1 fan like myself I'm glad to have the opportunity to enjoy the difficulties of F1 racing without busting my bank account.
The game has some really cool feature. Great graphics, cool sounds, and multiple angles. In addition, the color scheme of each team is authentic to the driver's gloves and helmets. In short, it's visually gratifying.
It does have some shortcomes. The weather is either sunny or pouring. In addition, the AI opponents never make mistakes, and can take corners so fast at times that you'd definitely spin out trying to stay with them. In addition, the change in transmission settings do not seem to effect the top speed a great deal.
I do like this game, and I'm looking forward to the next one already. Although it's not perfect, but it's fun, and very realistic in many ways.

Read _Going Faster_ before you judge a game such as this.
Unlike GT3, which I also have and have completed, this game takes real driving skill, not always found in a game. The lines are there, but aren't obvious, and if you are not on the line, you will go slow, and get passed. The starts are very realistic -- spin the wheels and you can forget about the race, assuming you qualified near or at the top.
The handling is superb, and the feel of the game is very good. Unlike GT3, if you go bashing off of other cars in the corners, or anywhere for that matter, you can once again forget about the race.
The graphics are excellent, nothing gets in your way, and nothing is over done. If you are truly focused on the game, the only graphics that matter is the track directly ahead. It does have rear-view mirrors. Learn to use them -- they are realistic and don't take up a quarter of the screen. The weather creates very different scenarios. From dry to damp to wet to pouring, they are all there. There is no on/off weather.
The settings make enormous differences, if you are qualified to play the game, you will notice *major* differences between all of the settings.
Unfortunately, the average game player doesn't have any real-world skills to back up his/her personal ability assessment with video games, and games such as this suffer in their reviews.
Wait until you are able to beat the field by 1.5 seconds on *every* track, in the hardest setting, with damage, penalties, fuel use, tire wear, no assists of any kind (including arrows), and failures on. Win the Championship hands down. Then rate the game. It will be positive.
If you are looking for a fun bash-em-up racing game, save your money and stick with GT3 or some other racing toy game. This is the real deal, and can be extremely frustrating, particularly if you have never driven in real life. F1 teams use games such as this to get more familiar with new tracks. Doesn't that say enough?

This game is horrible, and is an embarrassment to EA's entourage of software. It should be banned from shelves, and burnt as a celebration for those who were about to waist their money. !!!!!
Must have for F-1 fans.

If you just want one racing game wait for GT3 but if get a thrill of driving at Spa or Monza then by all means buy this game. Good game play, very realistic, great graphics. Would be better with a steering wheel. 2000 cars and drivers, so no Juan Montoya.

Being a racing fan, I would of course buy almost any racing game for the PS2. Pending the coming of GT3, I would have to rate this as the best racing simulator available at this time for the PS2.
The graphics are great. The game play, while not perfect is reasonable and makes it interesting.
Compared to EA's Nascar 2001, this game has better game flow and the graphics don't bog down. Now if they could just translate some of these factors over to the next version of Nascar.
As the programmers get more into the PS2, this game will get even better. Keep on keeping on EA.
My Opinion = Two Thumbs Down!

I purchased this game to add to the racing fun of the GT3 bundle with my PS2. I was sorely dissapointed with F1 from the graphics to the game play. First I thought it was just GT3 overshadowing the game but after time I realized that in my opinion the game is not worth keeping. Sold it on Ebay for cheap.
