This is a great game. I watch F1 every season and it seems that just like in real racing the drivers do better if they are better in real life. Crashes are highly detailed but the only thing i dont like is after a crash u can be brought out of the race do to damage but the car u hit even if u hit the same car like a million times it stays in the race. I find it not fun that way. Otherwise i rate this game 4 stars for its outstanding crashes, graphics, multiplayer and performance. This is worth ur money. A great racing game and lots of action. You can also choose ur car and work on it such as moving ur front and rear wing up and down to provide better wind flow and more speed. If ur not sure rent this game you'll be suprised.
Another half-baked PS2 game

Yeah, the graphics on this game are great, but that should be par for the course on a PS2. The graphics are smooth, but I swear there is less on the screen than in F1 2000 for the PS1. That was a great game and pushed me to play a few full seasons, but is suffered from being too easy. When I heard that F1 200 Champ used AI to vary the difficulty resulting in longer game play appeal, I was psyched - so I bought a PS2 and bought this game. Big mistake - this F1 2000 Champ edition is not in the least bit related to it's cousin on the PS1. The PS2 game is either too easy or way too hard. The cars don't go as fast, there's no commentary, the opponent-AI is terrible, there are no frills or nice effects as in the PS1 version, and worse of all -the game is riddled with bugs. Yes bugs. For instance, imagine how frustrating it is to come out of the pits after 8 laps to find you're stuck in 1st gear for the rest of the race - not even going back to the pits will help. Or, when you start a flying lap, it places you in 1st gear at 160 mph - so you spin out and hit the barrier every time. HUGE BUGS! I can't believe that EA stooped so low as to push this out unfinished, just to cash in being the only F1 racer on this console!
All that said, the physics on the car feel great - the best I've ever seen - it's just a shame that the rest of the game doesn't stand up to allow you to enjoy them in a full race.
- and no, you can't change the wheel lock (well I can't find that option) :)
Disappointing

I have played F1 simulations of eidos interactive in my PC.I bought the PS2 mainly to play this F1 game. The graphics are very good and it seems weirdly real in cockpit view. Unfortunately graphics is the only plus for this game. The gameplay is really very disappointing. There is not even a REARVIEW mirrow..How am i supposed to block somebody trying to pass me ???? There is very little talk from the pit ..and i have to wait for the TV display (which appears occassionally)to know whether somebody's gaining on me or not ...or where my championship contender is!!!! Even psygonesis PSX game had better gameplay. If somebody is planning on buying this game..my advice is wait for F1 2002..maybe EAsports will come up with something better. ppl who are planning to buy PS2 for playing F1 sims..stick to ur PC.

Well yeah, I was looking forward to this game, and it really impressed me with the graphics and the gameplay. What I really don't like is that there's no commentary during the race, you're just hearing the engine sounds...and...aaa...that's it for the sound, yeah. In rest, this game is great, and if you want a challenge and you think you're a good gamer, buy this game, set it up on hard mode, and full laps in the championship mode and get going...the opponents are acting like the drivers in real life.
Alot of fun. But not as good as it should have been.

I have had immense fun playing this game. The sound and graphics are incredible and it gives an amazing feel of speed. All the teams and drivers are there. But it does have its flaws. The cars are very twitchy to drive and it is easy to leave the track and spin or crash. With practice it does get alot better. F1 cars seem rather smooth through corners, not so in the game. The AI is terrible. Cars are always getting in the way or turning into you. The last place car will ram you from behind. Pitstops are always the same length, some variables based on the teams would have been good. There is no real commentary, but I like that. It's just you and the car, no chatter. Although it might have been good to have an option of commentary and/or crew cheif. It would have been good to have crew information. Knowing who was in the pits would be helpful. Getting to chose the pit stradegy was a nice touch.
Overall this game needs to be better. But for all it's faults I have still loved playing it. But I do hope if they do a 2001 game that it will be improved.
Pretty good for F1 fans, but there are better driving games.

I got this game when I first got my PS2. Now, I'm sure I liked this game more than most and forgave it for its flaws because I'm such a F1 fan. It is a fun game and the tracks are very realistic (when watching an F1 race I would know the track perfectly when watching an in-car shot after playing the track on this game). The graphics are nice as well. The crashes are a little absurd, but amusing nonetheless. I do say the Gran Turismo 3 is the best driving game on the PS2 or any other system.
(...)Anyway, if this gets through... Grand Prix 3 and the Thrustmaster on a PC makes for the best racing/driving sim game I've ever played. See my reviews on amazon for those items as well.
Truly Impressive Simulation

If the first reviewer would spend some time with the game, it becomes terribly apparent that much of his bemoaning is misdirected. After setting a satisfactory qualifying time, you can escape the qualifying session. Of course EA would not require the player to sit through the entire hour qualifying session. Moreover, steering wheel lock can be modified. After reading such a negative review, I am not sure the first reviewer spent any time at all playing the game. To those F1 fans seeking a good simulation, this is your PS2 game.

Best F1 game yet. Only thing missing is the commentary during the race. It gets a little boring doing a full race distance at Hokkenheim.
Solid game

There really isnt anything wrong with this game. Sure, one of the modes is missing that was in the ps1 version but it really doesnt make any differance. Its still a solid game. However unless your in to F1 racing you might want to go for something else.
