Resident Evil: Code Veronica on the Dreamcast has the same mutant/zombie killing and gore everyone would expect from a Resident Evil game. The graphics are considerably better in this latest installment of the series, and there are plently of new monsters to exterminate. As for the weapons, there isn't much new here...but at least it's kept relatively realistic with shotguns, pistols, and sub-machine guns, ect. The story is involved and although at some points predictable, it's executed well from start to finish. Unfortunately, as in the other Resident Evil games, there is a lot of back tracking that must be done to complete the game...and having limited item space makes it all the more time consuming. If you've played the previous Resident Evil games, you know what to expect. There's also plently of fun secrets to unlock (like Battle Mode), and they add a considerable amount of replay value. Resident Evil: Code Veronica is yet another great reason to own a Dreamcast.

So how does Resident Evil Code: Veronica compare with the previous RE games? Despite the new look and outstanding visuals, Resident Evil Code: Veronica hasn't really offered anything new, and instead delivers more of the same RE gameplay.
The story is very awkward. As the game progresses, Code: Veronica's storyline begins to lack the cool plot twists and startling mysteries found in the last Resident Evils. RE:CV relied on too much puzzle-solving to drive the story. There aren't any interwinding plots like before. Instead, the story reveals a weak cast of characters. This includes transvestites and unnecessary characters who have nothing to do with the main plot and RE storyline.
As you might expect, the graphics are mind-blowing. Its the best-looking Resident Evil yet. Gone are the pre-rendered backgrounds and still perspectives of the old games. Code: Veronica's sound is good, but has some bad voice-acting.
What's disappointing is that the dodge feature from RE3: Nemesis has been removed and the auto-aiming is so annoying, causing you to aim at unwanted targets and wasting ammunition. RE:CV's puzzle-solving, box-pushing, and switch-pressing, which will eventually become tedious especially to experienced Resident Evil players.
Resident Evil Code: Veronica pales in comparison to the other Resident Evil games in almost every area. Once you forget about the awesome graphics, you're left with nothing but same Resident Evil we've been playing all along.
Disappointing

Although there has been a lot of good comments about this game, I found myself very disappointed. I have played all of the other RE games and this one has a very different feel to it. The fear factor doesn't exist as the genre of RE:CV is more of a shooter than a survival/horror game. The graphics were truly stunning however, and there were excellent cinematic scenes. I like the RE series because it has been very gory, but this game cut out ALL headshots and legshots. That means that you will no longer see the gore of past classic RE games. Although I personnally was disappointed, I'm sure many people will enjoy this game greatly. Give it a rental before you dish out your dough.
I suggest you pick this up

If you are a parent wanting to buy this for your child, I wouldn't buy it for him or her unless he or she is over 10. All you Resident Evil lovers out there this is the best one yet. If you like survival/horror games you're in heaven with a hellish twist to it. With its gory graphics and its engrossing cinema it will leave you hungry for more. A few things you need to know before I start. The T-Virus is a virus that kills you and then is like an enzyme up keep which brings you back to life as a blood thirsty zombie and Umbrella Corp. is a worldwide pharmeceutical monopoly who created the T-Virus. It starts you off as Claire Redfield, who has recently been caught and imprisoned by Umbrella Corp., on an unknown island which has been overrun by T-Virus. Your mission is to get off the island, alive of course, and look for your brother Chris who is under survallince by Umbrella. This is truly the best Resident Evil game yet and in my opinion its a masterpiece in its category.
One of the Best Video Games out there!

What can I say? I am a big fan of the Resident Evil series. The latest release for the Dreamcast did not let me down. The graphics have excedeed my expectations. The intro alone is worth the purchase. The graphics for the normal play are excellent as well. I would recommend buying a guide with the game for those who are new to the series. Better yet, start playing the original one and start your way up. But if you buy Resident Evil code Veronica, you can guess what happened before. If you are a little bit slow like me (meaning you get killed easily), I recommend buying the gameshark for cheat codes, etc. Either way, you will be happy. Buy this game and enjoy it.
Absolutely incredible.

Having played the first 3 Resident Evil games, I thought that I had seen it all. After picking up a copy of this game (which was sold out at 3 different places I went to), I'd have to say that I was wrong. You have probably heard by now about the gorgeous graphics, real-time lighting effects, etc., but where this game really shines is how it sticks to the classic Resident Evil formula, while at the same time redefining it. Playing it on a 36" tv with a surround sound system, I had my fair share of scares each and every night I have played this. Make no mistake, this is one quality piece of software, and is worth buying a Dreamcast to play (I did.) Buy it now!
Good game? The answer... BOO-YAH!

When I got RE:code veronica early this week I was awe-struck...THe CGI cinemas in this game are the best in any game ever...period...The gameplay stays fairly similar to the other RE's, which is good...only minor flaws...just give the controls some time...it takes less than an hour to get used to them if you have never played the game series before...the in-game graphics are amazing...RE has never looked more realistic...Capcom definitely harnessed the dc's power in this game...Don't expect to rush right through this game though...it's 2 GD-Rom's long...it may take a while...but everything about the RE series has been improved or left in tact...the blood is still there...the gameplay is good...and the graphics and storyline are amazing...truely if you are looking for a game to buy for the dreamcast...don't hesitate...its the best game out there to date...don't even bother to rent it...just buy it!
Definitely pick this up

I admit i am first and foremost a PlayStation gamer but this game was enough to make me buy a Dreamcast. That's how impressive this game is. Now i'm sure you've heard about the controls, it takes a while to get used to but that's okay. Once you have them down you'll be killing the undead left and right. The graphics on this game are fabulous and will impress anyone. For those who thought that the other Resident Evil games were too short, then your prayers have been answered, without a strategy guide this game will easily take you 10-12 hours on your first try. The only real problem I have is that one of the secondary characters looks exactly like Leonardo DiCaprio for the post pubescent girls out there this is your dream come true DiCaprio and zombies all in one game.
A great Dreamcast game

I bought RE:CV because I had the other RE games. From the first time I sat down to play it I was thoroughly convinced that Dreamcast was the best one yet. The graphics are fantastic and the storyline offered some new adventures. I did find the puzzles a bit frustrating... If you don't have a guide then you will have to have the patience of Job and a very strong determination to solve them. I highly recommend you buy it and enjoy the game. You are in for a good time! Congrats to Dreamcast!
