OK, I'll admit, when I first saw that Sega was going to take over the production part of the game, I hesistated. Being a fan of the Resident Evil series, I thought that it should've stayed with Sony. All of the games on Sony (except for the...Survivor shooting game) were awesome, bringing me to new levels of terror and fear. Code Veronica, however, surpasses them all to the point where you will have nightmares.

The story takes place a bit after Res 2 (which happened before and during Res 3, if you can keep up). Claire Redfield, while looking for her brother Chris, has been captured by Umbrella and detained on an uncharted island. Of course, zombies come out from nowhere, and Claire has to find a way to get off the island. The plot is top notch, and some parts had me going, "What the heck?", while the creatures had me saying other words I shouldn't say. The game is engrossing, and with the addition of a dark room and surround sound, it's really creepy. Creaking sounds and footsteps will have you wondering what's behind door #1 (giant spiders make quick thump-thump-thump sounds with their legs before they come to chew on you), and the beasts are rendered nicely (in a scare-you-silly kind of way). The puzzles will make you think, as checking everything you collect is the only way to get through.

The graphics are excellent, as shading and cutscenes are beautiful to watch. When Claire lights her lighter, it's a sight to behold, as it flickers realistically. The only problem is the clunky control, as it seems to populate this series a lot. It's a problem, but one you can adapt to (and you'd better, before you become lunch meat).

The replay value comes in the battle game. Beat the game, and that becomes available (successfully complete a puzzle in the game, and Steve becomes available). You can play as Claire, Chris Redfield, Steve, or Wesker, each complete with certain weapons (Wesker's game is insane; you only fight with a knife).

All in all, with the Dreamcast becoming more affordable, I'd suggest you pick this game up. It's easily the best of the series.

Resident Evil Series continues to Impress

RE:CV is absolutly incredible. Graphicly the game is unmatched and often time breath taking, I mean sometimes it was hard to notice the difference between FMV's and actual game play. Compared with the last 2 game RE:2 and RE:3 this one is alot more challenging, at least for me. Story wise it definatly delivers. The only thing I do not like and this is with all the Resident Evil games. The control is always a bit lacking, especially now with analog controls standard they need to get rid of that stupid run button and have the speed of the character depend on the analog control. I find myself using the digital pad more than the analog and that is kind of sad. Otherwise a Masterpiece of gaming goodness. Well I'll talk to you all later time to play battle mode.

A real masterpiece

I've played all three of the preceding Resident Evil titles and I have never, ever, seen a game like this before. This game is so intense, beautiful, realistic and deep, it's a wonder you don't just relieve yourself in your pants as you play. It took me just about 30 hours to beat this game, while all three previous titles together only amounted to 22. While its true that the developers didn't do anything to help the new players with the control (still the same love it or hate it style from '96), with a little wandering you can pick up pretty fast and then it's just like being submerged in a movie. I normally am rather skeptical when I rate a video game, real classics like this game do deserve the 5 stars. I wouldn't, however, recommend this game to anyone who doesn't like to kill lots and lots of...dead things...with really awesome guns, so be warned that this game really can make you sick. But if you can stomach the gore, then go ahead, buy it, indulge yourself, and sleep well...

Slam-dunk for survival horror junkies

The Resident Evil games have long been a Playstation staple, having had three wildly successful games in the series. Well move over Playstation, because the franchise is moving to Dreamcast and going hi-res!

Resident Evil: Code Veronica takes place between Resident Evil 2 and 3, and once again features Claire Redfield and her brother Chris. This time Claire is being held prisoner on an Umbrella-owned, zombie infested island far away from Racoon City. On her desperate attempt to escape the island, Claire meets several characters - some helpful, but most not so helpful.

Code Veronica plays exactly like the other Resident Evil games (I've got them all), so if you like that style of control, you're in business here. What really sets Code Veronica apart from it's siblings, however are the graphics. I think I can confidently say that this is the best looking zombie game ever made. You can see every pus-oozing sore on those pathetic zombies, and environments are fully rendered in 3D.

This game is a slam-dunk if you like the survival horror genre.

Simply the scariest game I've ever played in my life! The great graphics in this game help to get you into the spooky atmosphere this game has. Great soun effects, great character design. I waited to be alone at home at night every time I wanted to continue playing this game, you will always go on this game expecting a surprise that'll make you jump out of your chair. This is a must buy for any Dreamcast owner, if you are tired of the series at least you gotta give this one a try, I found out that is so different especially in the graphics department. The fully polygonal backgrounds are so sweet and they look better than the pre-redered backrounds of the other RE games. BUY IT AND PLAY ALONE AT NIGHT, IT FEELS EVEN SCARIER THAN ANY MOVIE!

Great Once, But Then What?

Once you have seen a horror movie, unless it is completely trancendant (Psycho), there really isn't much need to see it again. The shock value has passed. Despite all attempts to the contrary, through the inclusion of several different ways of beating the game, a mini-game, or whatever else might be involved, Resident Evil has always suffered from a lack of replay value. This version is no different. I have a difficult time plunking down my fifty bucks just to have five nights or so of sheer terror. Why not pay five bucks at the rental store?

Despite this, it should be played. Granted, the controls are a pain in the butt unless you have learned them in previous versions, but if that stops you you don't deserve to have a Dreamcast. The graphics are gorgeous, the cinematics are fantastic, the entire game is just completely fun, until it is over. Just take it back to the rental store and bask in the memories.

One side note: the best part about owning it is letting other people come over and play. You get to watch them jump just like you did.

Jaw dropping

Ok before you read this, ORDER THIS GAME. Now, let me tell you - this is by far the most impressive next generation game I have ever seen. Forget anything you saw on PS2 or even those early XBOX tech demos, this little 16 month old console is throwing out graphics that will make your jaw drop. At one point in the game you walk into a pool of water and as you walk through it the water ripples so realistically you will not believe your eyes. This game has so many JAW DROPPING effects and graphical nitches, as well as lighting it will amaze you.

Gameplay wise it is as good as any RE game, just twice as long and has an involving storyline that keeps you in suspense until the end, unlike RE3.

What can I say, if you have a Dreamcast buy this game now, if you dont have a Dreamcast but one just for this game, you will NOT be dissapointed.

The greatest installment of the RE series yet

Capcom's RE: Code Veronica is the greatest RE game out there. Not only is it the most fun, it's also the most visually pleasing. All the environments are rendered in real time 3d, allowing for the camera to pan around dramatically. Control is a breeze once you get the hang of it. It is the same as all the Resident Evil games, so if you're already an RE veteran like me, you'll have no problem with the controls. Even if you've never played an RE game, the learning curve is only about 15 minutes for you to get the hang of things.

Graphically, this game is a testament to the Dreamcast's muscle power. A lot of the cutscenes are in real time, but the FMV sequences are like buttah, with such stunning video quality they will make you drool.

The plot is great, and quite possibly the deepest of all the RE games. Even if you don't know the story from past games, Capcom does a pretty good job at filling you in on what's happened in the past.

Replay is limited. Once you beat this game, the average player will put it on the shelf. There are, however extra goodies to earn and if you work hard enough and long enough you could get them.

The game features some grizzly scenes, and as always Capcom knows how to make you jump every so often.

Sound is great. The game features a very nice cinema-esque soundtrack and other sounds are true to life.

I recommend this game to anyone who has the wits to play it. It is the greatest RE game yet, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Just keep it away from the kiddies.
