This is one of the top ten games for PS2. Basicly because this is no follow the derections and win, no no much harder than that! Fighting with Arok is really fun too, the flying aslo, and the hand to hand combat with Rynn. And all the bosses and, well I'll just say, there is to much to tell here.
What a great game

This is an amazing game. It has a good plot with "challenging" side qests wich are axctually rewarding and worthwhile. You get to be Rynn. Who is a female warrior who just had her family killed and is now fighting back against the evil forces of the world. And she has Arohk the dragon who she is bonded by spirit. And he is verry cool. You can either walk on foot or ride on him. You can call him when you are in need of aid unless its underground or a "no fly zone "-water. This game is amaziling rewarding with 3 diffrent types of fighting. Mele with swords. Bow-ranged. or magic. you can specalize in just 1 or go with a blend of all three. This is a great game with lots of replay value and I sugest that if you like rpgs BUY this game.
Not as good as the first, but still good.

The first Drakan game was delicious (it was a PC game). The graphics were all dark and rather depressing, but then, so was the game itself. The armor and swords were beautiful, as was the Dragon (and Rynn), although Rynn reminded me a little too much of Lara Croft. The second Drakan game had gameplay that was as good as the first, but the graphics weren't as good. They looked a little too... fake. Some of the armor Rynn donns in the second one is hideous, and if you like aesthetically-pleasing armor, you end up going with less-powerful armor just because you hate looking like a walking snot ball. The dialogue was good, although they randomly decided to make everyone in the sequel have British accents, when they didn't in the first. In the first one, Rynn sounded like a rebelious teenager who wanted to save her brother; in the second one, she sounds like an aristocrat-turned-warrior who is over thirty, even though the second takes place directly after the first. The ending was far too open-ended and frustrating; there was no resolution.
There are sidequests you can take during the game, and that helps a lot. You can explore all over the worlds; you don't have to just follow one single path like in some games. The weapons are a little over-done in TAG, and the Dragon doesn't look as "cool" as he did in the first Drakan. It's real-time combat, which is a must for me. You can do different moves with your sword, which makes it more entertaining. You can also cast magic spells, which is fun, and is even crucial in one part of the game. It is difficult enough to be challenging, but not so difficult as to leave you pulling your hair out and screaming at the television screen that you "hate it and would kick it if it hadn't cost you so much!"
My biggest two problems with this game were:
(a) It was not as realistic as the first one. In the first Drakan, if you executed the right slash in the right spot, you could do things like chop off the arms of orcs, or legs, or heads. In TAG, you can't. It's just a hack-till-they-die thing.
(b) I keep comparing all my other games to it, and they don't add up!
One of my favorite things was the flying. It was easy to control, easy to get used to, and fun as well. You could do donuts and spirals, and it wasn't irritating at all. Arohk was fun (and funny at times, as well), although it was frustrating when you lost him, or when he "couldn't land here!" and you had to run away from lots of orcs and wartoks because Arokh was being stupid. Sometimes, he would get stuck on a rock face, and not be able to come to you. He would just be left there, flying in the sky, not coming down, and you'd have to restart the game from your last save point.
I also liked how you could target things. You could target one enemy, and dance around and get behind him and kill him faster. It was especially conveniant in the sky, where it is hard to keep up with the dragons who circle around you and rise and dive and twist around. The targeting made it so that you could keep track of them easily.
All in all, I think it is a great game, and definitely worth the money.
Go ahead and buy it !

This game is a a joy to play. I played this not long after I finished Rune because it looked similar and I was pleased to discover that it was even better! All video games should be this well-produced and presented. Controls are intuitive, fighting is satisfying, bloodshed isn't overdone, and the voice acting and sound effects are outstanding ( set fire to the half-man/half-boar creature and I dare you not to laugh! ).
The most fun to be had however, is in piloting your fierce ( and talkative! ) dragon through the beautiful and expansive worlds seeking lucrative side-quests, attacking enemy dragons, and obliterating ground forces with an awesome amount of fire-breating power. This is what makes the game thrilling as well as the interesting non-player characters and the overall sense of humor and all of the thought that obviously went into this title.
I recommend this game to everyone and since the price is so low there is no reason you shouldn't give it a try. Enjoy!

About the Game- DTAG picks up right where Drakan order of the Flame left off. Rynn and Arokh return in this exciting sequel, with a new mission. The game playing was so much more smooth and realistic. The lands were breath taking, and the weapons were awesome. Also, this game has so many more things than the first. You can get gold to buy weapons and magic spells. There are some new enemies, and new friends. This game has it all compared to the last one! Combat is much more fun, and it isnt repetitive. It isnt all hack n slash either, since blocking and dodging play an important role in combat. Arokh has some nifty breath weapons (althought i do wish he sill had lava). A pretty awesome game, if you played the first one!
My opinion- Great game! although it went alot faster than the previous one. It only took me a few days to finnish. The other one took me forever! The graphics are good, and game play is fun and entertaining. And I never expirenced a problem with losing my dragon, like some other people did. If you use common sense you wont have any problems. In fact i really cant complain too much about thins game. I wish it was a little longer and that there were more new breath attacks for arokh but all in all i liked the game very much!

I liked "The Order of the Flame" so much, I bought the PS2 just to play this game. I liked it as much as the first one. The female protagonist (Rynn) is what makes the game. I have played this game several times for the adventure, the involvment, and of course, just to look at Rynn.

I have always been a fan of the female hero, and I have always liked dragons. That said, I'm not much of a fan of console/computer Role Assumption Games. Drakan: The Ancient's Gates takes gives you the back story of Rynn and Arokh, briefly mentioning their previous campaign. I found the arrangment of which button did what to be awkard, though I must say I liked using the index finger buttons for drawing/sheathing weapons and for inventory.
What I like
-----------
-A few special combat moves.
-Makes fun of the concept of leveling.
-Good chemistry in the Rynn/Arokh voice acting.
-Breathtaking backgrounds.
What I didn't like
------------------
-UNFORGIVABLE: Inept Foreshadowing - due to both his voice acting and gesticulations, you know Zola Dane is your enemy the second you meet him.
-Areas you can't go back to, with little to no good reason for this predicament (particularly the Andrellian Isles).
-You can't parry with weapons that have magical effects until they're out of charges.
-The limited number of special combat moves.
-UNFORGIVABLE: Starting Rynn and Arokh at Level 1 when they've already had an adventure.
-UNFORGIVABLE: No quick select when riding Arokh.
-UNFORGIVABLE: Ending is not worth the amount of effort you put in to get to it.

I had high hopes for this game when I first began. The graphics are wonderful and the sound is great. Technically, there are a few bugs with the game, but most of these can be overlooked. The major flaw with the game si the way the story is carried out. There is barely enough of a plot to move the character from area to area. The ending needs the most work of all. After beating the entire game, it was very dissappointing.
I beat it and here's what I have to say.

As I said before this is a great game but I have found many problems, had to start a whole new game, lost my dragon, and got a bit bored. At first when I went to Surdana and found a lot of people I notice that most people had looked the EXACTLY the same except for the Blacksmith,Qualus,Lady Myschala,Genrel(I forgot his name),and Sorecess Jade. Also the villians like Khesoll Vole and Polta looked the same.Something really buged me about this plus instead of fighting 5 different monsters you fought 5 all the same. When at the tree in the Shadowmire I noticed there was a down fall in which I had to jump or go another way. When I jumped down something bought me up to the start menu and saved my game over the file I had saved and when I died and went back to my game I kept dieing so I had to start another game. Now dragon loses, this happened a lot.First when I went through thee Yeti tunnel Arokh said he'd stay right there, when I came through another tunnel I called him and couldn't find him.He finally came after I called him for an hour. Then the path to Northern Tundra I didn't think Arokh would be able to pass through it so I left him outside the tunnel. When I went out the other end of the tunnel I found myself to be caught in a trap with 2 blackwings which I couldn't target(you can't target flyers when your Rynn which stinks),so I went back.I came back and Arokh was gone I saw his shadow but no Arokh I called him and nothing happened.I fell of the cliff where I get to Tundra and there was no way up,and couldn't go back to the Ilses because no one would led me back, and I couldn't go through the portal with out Arokh.I lost my dragon and had to begin on my other file. It's rather a bomber you can die from falling with no help.I liked the game but after seeing the same enemies over and over got me bored. It was a good game and tought me to expect the unexpect and that theres something around every corner. It's a good game but if you like a varties of enemies then maybe you shouldn't buy it,but if you like a chanlge like a sassy girl with magical power, and can kick butt than buy it.The chose is yours not mine, but keep htis review in mined.
P.S.Sorry for the spelling but I'm a really bad speller

I tried out the demo for the game, and while at first it seemed like it would be good, after a few minutes it got rather boring. First off the controls seem a bit difficult to manage when flying the dragon. When I was attacked it was very hard to locate where it was coming from let alone try to turn around and defend myself. The controls were a little bit better when maneuvering just the woman.
The dialogue sure got repetitive fast, "Let's Fly!" "Let's Go!" How about lets shut up?!
The graphics where pretty choppy, not at all better than what you might find for a PS1 game. Even the characters seemed to defy gravity, after a monster was killed it just hovered there in midair. And after just a couple of hits you yourself are dead, didn't seem like there was any way to replenish your health except with the potion you start off with, and can run out of fast. Maybe in the real game, there's more you can pick up.
And then there were all these inventory items to deal with, potions, spells, weapons and the like. Which reminded me way too much of an RPG game, NOT and adventure game.
All in all, the demo sure didn't make me want the full game, but if you're even thinking about buying this game, play the demo first, before you shell out the dough!
