Get Re-Volt just for Battle Tag!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 6 / 6
Date: February 14, 2000
Author: Amazon User

This game is a blast! It's got a huge variety of tracks and cars, weapons and other power-ups for an exciting twist, and plenty of game modes (single race, championship, practice, stunt track, head-to-head race, and battle tag) to keep you hooked.

My friend and I played it the night I bought it, and we soon latched on to "Battle Tag" as our game of choice. Your goal is to find a hidden star, and then evade your opponent(s) for a total of two minutes. But if an opponent finds you and tags you, the chase reverses. Up to four players can compete in any of the multi-player modes. Shooting bottle rockets and water balloons at your friends really adds to the fun of the chase.

The background music is totally addictive. We found ourselves turning the volume up louder and louder as the game went on.

The tracks and battle arenas are what really set this game apart. Race through neighborhood streets, a toy store, a supermarket, a ghost town, and more. And when you're taking on computer opponents, you WILL end up on the losing end of some well-placed oil slicks and a rocket or two.

The controls are pretty tight, but don't be intimidated. Remember, you're supposed to be controlling an R/C car - it's not easy. But it's well worth the patience as you learn to slide through the turns and jump off ramps and curbs.

ReVolt - ing? Naaah

ReVolt is one of the best games I've seen in years. The graphics are amazing, just enough challenge to make it fun and the courses are great...Toytanic? Toys in the Hood? Grrreat! Lots of great cars too, each has its own personality.

Overall, a good game

Controls are a little wierd at first. Once you realize that you're driving an RC car and not a rally car, you're a lot better off... This game is ok for single player, and pretty good for 4 player. 2 and 3 player modes are ok if everyone has played several times before and knows how to play. Newbiee tend to complain a lot about the controls and the 'complecated' maps.

Unique, Fun, Difficult

This game seems like a fun, family game, but is fact a (usually) serious RC car simulation, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Still, you must know that the game is difficult and requires practice. New players can't simply pick up a control and do well in a multiplayer race.

Otherwise, this would be a perfect game. The graphics are amazing, even by today's standards, and the tracks are wonderfully inventive - everything you've ever wanted to do with RC cars, you will do in this game. You can also design your own tracks. There are courses for multiplayer battles and tricks. Finally, the one positive aspect of the game's difficulty is that you will find plenty of depth. Not a bad choice for the price.

RC-Racing at its average

An interesting racing game indeed. Few companies have tried making games with the feel of an RC car. This game accomplished it well. It feels just like the real thing (I know, I still play with them myself). There are a TON of cars to choose from, all with different characteristics. With some of the faster cars, you may find yourself moving faster than the frame-rate can keep up, but its pretty minor. The only problem I had was the computer intelligence. Any of you that have seen advertisements for the Dream Cast have heard the slogan "it's thinking" as well. This means that the computer has learned your play tactics and uses different techniques to stop you. In this particular game, the cars become too smart after a while and the game becomes less fun, and more challenging. This is a plus to some and a minus to others. Overall, a good, fun, addictive game. But rent before you buy.

GREAT GAME

I first got this game's demo from a cd that comes along with the dreamcast magazine. I liked the game so much I eventually bought it and couldn't be happier.

The controls are great, difficult at first maybe, but realistic and easily mastered. The graphics are superb, and the tracks are all unique and fun. Your opponent cars and your own can nab "pickups" along the course and fire firecrakers, leave oil slicks, shoot a photon like gun, among other weapons to slow the other cars. There are many modes: championship, single race, timed race, that once you've beaten unlock other tracks, and more sophisticated cars-about 25 in all, that have different feels racing. There is a decent track editor so you can design your own course. The music well suits the game and is nice turned up loud. Acclaim did a great job with this game.

Anyway, I hope I convinced you to try Re-volt out. I doubt it'll dissapoint.

RC-Pro Am meets Mario Kart!!!

I can pretty much say that this is one of the best racing games that I've played in a long time. I don't even know where to start, but I'll try.
When I put Re-Volt in my Dreamcast, I wasn't REALLY sure of what to expect. For one, I was not expecting the great music! It was like stepping into a club! This upbeat music kept my head in the game for hours at a time.
Then, when I actually started the game, I noticed that there were many options and MANY RC cars to unlock. You can race in tournaments, single races, and you can even take your car onto a stunt track.
The actual tracks are very original; from racing in a supermarket, to rooftops and through peoples' homes! not only are the tracks very original and lots of fun, but the graphics are very detailed and smooth. RV is definitely not lacking in that department.
The actual control is very good as well. It's about as close as you're going to get to real RC racing without buying one. you have to take into account the actual physics of an environment before you go Super Dave-ing it through puddles of oil, or taking a top-heavy RC around a sharp turn.
Weapons...no truly FUN racing game should be without them. RV has them. Cool items like battery packs to temporarily increase your speed to funny weapons like water balloons (especially when you toss one at a friend and make fun of'em for the rest of the day), and HUGE ball bearings. Oh yeah, this game is great.
If you purchase this game (which you really should), be prepared for a lot of "unlocking secrets" and very little down time. The only downside to RV is the fact that if you do get 3 other people to play with you, that it gets a little confusing because there's a four-way screen split and there's so much happening on the screen. Other than that, I can honestly say that this game was an excellent buy!

Fun and Realistic!

Excellent game. It takes time to master, but the graphics and responses of the car are very realistic. It is also fun and challenging since there are various courses and cars to be unlocked.

This game RULEZ!!

This is probably the best racing game for the Dreamcast console! The graphics are awesome and the gameplay is outstanding choose from about 40 remote control racers and about 10-15 tracks. You can even make your own track with the track maker. From supermarkets to ghost towns, this game blows other racing games out of the water!!!!
