Beautiful

At first, I didn't think I was going to like Rayman 2 that much. The demo was decent, but not super-engaging. I liked the cartoony feel to it, and thought the graphics were beautiful, but I wasn't sure it would be worth the money to play the whole thing.

I'm glad I took a chance on it, though. It's the best platform game I've played, and probably one of the best games I've played period. The gameplay is nice and varied -- the levels are well designed, and you gain neat new powers throughout the game. One level might have you running and jumping through a forest, while the next has you on a high-speed rocket trip through a dank sewer. It's hard to get bored when you keep wanting to play just a little longer to see what comes next.

There are a few annoying issues -- the "run along planks dodging cannonballs" level is irritating, and sometimes the camera angles make things harder than they need to be, and I wish it didn't ask me if I wanted to enable the jump pack each time I play. The rest of the game is so good that it's easy to overlook these minor quibbles, though.

This is definitely a game to show off your Dreamcast with. The graphics are utterly gorgeous, and the gameplay is simple to pick up and very engaging.

O.k.

The graphics of this game will blow your mind. It is the best rayman yet. If you have a dreamcast, this is the game to buy. the gameplay is easy yet challenging to keep you hooked 'till the end.

Superbly executed platform game

Rayman 2 is the best example of how to do a platform game (in the vein of Super Mario 64), in my opinion. It has a cartoony goofiness that's sure to entertain, and manages to achieve that perfect balance of making the characters cute without being annoyingly so.

The gameplay is simple and elegant, and the game itself contains enough different types of levels to beat that you don't get stuck in a rut of just jumping around the world avoiding bad guys. Different objectives, from waterskiing holding onto a snakes scarf to using Rayman's helicopter hair to fly up a lava flow to riding on a flying shotgun shell to actually piloting a flying pirate ship, keep the game fresh from level to level. The gameplay of the different methods is done very skillfully, making each method relatively easy to control, while balancing them with challenging levels.

The collection of yellow lums in the game also adds to the replayability of Rayman 2, while not resorting to simply making certain lums nearly impossible to get.

The only two flaws I could see would be the lamentable brevity of the game and the "bonus" levels you get when you collect all the lums/cages on a level. The bonus levels are rather pointless, and a pain in the neck, but they're easy to ignore in light of the quality of the rest of the game.

All in all, I definitely consider this a must-buy game, more so than Sonic Adventure (not to put Sonic down, but Rayman 2 truly tops it in everything except length of the game).

Brillant graphics and great game play.

I've tried a demo of this game. It's great. I'm a fan of the Rayman series and can't wait get a hold of a full version. Graphics will blow you away. They're amazing. One of the best features is the 1st person view. Hold both shoulder triggers on the controller and see the world through Rayman's eyes! Game play is seemless. Give this game a try if you've never played a Rayman game before. You won't be disapointed.

It's a beautiful day in Rayman's world...

After a stunning debut on the Nintendo 64, Rayman 2: The Great Escape continues to amaze on the Sega Dreamcast, with better visuals, a new underwater level, Internet download, and a multiplayer option that unlocks once you beat the game. You'll be drawn in to this game a lot, with its Mario-ish gameplay hooking you and bonus stages involving dog-riding and water-skiing thrown in for good measure. The gameplay is deep, and you learn new techniques as you continue in your quest- a definite plus. The music could've been a bit better, but, in the end, who can complain? Rayman's bound to grab you with this impressive feat, even without any arms or legs. How IS that possible!

A must have game

I would say this game is a solid 4 1/2 stars. If you have the means, this game should be on your shelf. The graphics are very sharp and entertaining. I think my favorite part of the game is the variety in the levels. It isn't all run and shoot, there are levels where you fly like a helicopter or a jet, and there are levels where you race somebody to the end. They are what makes the game great. The game music was very well done too. Near the end of the game I almost felt like I was in a movie. What I really did not like about Rayman 2 was that sometimes the angle that the camera aims too much at the ground, and you can only rotate it left/right and not up/down. However, the camera was much better than in other games I've played, because if you do rotate the camera angle it stays where you put it. Swimming is the most awkward task in the whole game. It took me several minutes to figure out the best way to swim, and even then I didn't feel like I was doing it right. The game was also super dark on my TV. I cranked up my TV's brightness and the game's gamma correction but there were still parts where I couldn't see where I was going.

Much Better then the PlayStation version (except...)

I first played Rayman 2 on the PlayStation. I loved the game, the voice acting most of all. When I bought my Dreamcast, I bought Rayman 2 for it. I love the Dreamcast version even better. The graphics are absolutly fantastic, as is the music. The only problem I have with it is that the Dreamcast version doesn't have the voice acting. Instead it has everybody talking some gibberish language. This was a big let down, and it's the only thing that's preventing me from giving it 5 stars. However, it's not enough to make me suggest not buying it. You'll have a pretty tough time getting everything in the game, so it will make you come back for more. If you're a fan of adventure games, you really should take a look at Rayman 2 (Dreamcast or PlayStation). I can't wait untill Ubi Soft puts Rayman 3 out on GameCube!

Lots of fun

I agree with the earlier reviews that this game is too short but it is still 5 stars of fun. It is very much like Mario64 and Legend of Zelda. It's not as convoluted as Banjo Kazooie and that's a good thing. I am an average gamer that can barely find time to sneak in a few hours here and there. This one is perfect for that. There is a save feature at the end of each world and I am just able to get through a world in enough time to turn it off and stop the kids from burning the house down. Each world has it's own new trick to learn and most of the time it's clear where to go next. You basically move around in each world collecting items and figuring out little puzzles here and there. The animation is incredible and music is good. The bonus rounds are a joke though. You're simply mashing buttons as fast as you can. It's definitely the lamest part of the game and I don't even attempt it. Along with NFL2K and Crazy Taxi, this is one of my favorite games for the Dreamcast.

Everybody loves Rayman

The graphics are vivid, sharp, and levels are beautiful. This isone of those games where you can keep playing over and over again and the game is still fun.The sound effects are great to plus the music isn't either especially while you are fighting a pirate.I never really got into adventure games till a played Rayman2 which is one of the best adventure games ever made.At first I wasn't sure about Rayman 2 until I rented it I now I'm going to buy it today.Rayman 2 is a must-buy for anyone who loves games. And the only I Think is missing in Rayman two is a multiplayer player mode .

Rayman 2 gets just about everything right- it is a game that was created with a sense of wonder and fun that draws you right in.

The Dreamcast does an amazing job of polygon pushing in this game, every level is fabulously rendered. A very interesting technique of pure 2D art being place in the game (self-stacking mushrooms, ghosts, and other things) really helps keep the game looking fresh, original, and not too boxy. In the first level of the game, there is a field of butterflies that you can run through, causing them all to flutter about. The camera angle changes to help you appreciate the view. Very nice.

The camera was occasionally frustrating, and once or twice maddening, but usually very non-intrusive.

My biggest complaint with the game were the occasional levels that had tracks in them (flying on a rocket, or skiing in a swamp) these levels were fun, but sometimes enraging in their nitpickiness. The game is usually very generous with waypoints, though, so it is not too big of a deal. Once you've hit the same pipe sticking out of a wall 5 times though, it starts to wear on you.

The best thing Rayman 2 does is get you engaged with the world- the true aim of this type of game, in my mind. You will love Rayman, his friends, and his world by the end of the game.

Pick this game up for the kids, pick this up for yourself, you will have a great time!
