Rayman 2 is a solid platform game with awesome, graphics, sounds, music, and gameplay. While it is not perfect, I think it is a much better platform game for dreamcast than the irritating Sonic Adventure. The plot is decent, and unlike Sonic Adventure and its obnoxiously awful "adventure mode," you can just get to the next level instead of wandering around aimlessly or watching incredibly bad cut scenes in which nothing happens. When you first play, the graphics will mesmerize you. The even run at a silky-smooth 60 frames per second, and the worlds are incredibly cool-looking and surreal. Whether you are foot-skiing through swamps or descending into a lava zone, the graphics will always catch your eye. The sound is excellent too. All the characters have an amusing babble that's always funny to listen to, and the music is top- notch (especially in the bayou). The gameplay is also fun, if a bit linear. It is always fun to explore the big levels and fight enemies with the game's easy controls.
However, the game isn't perfect. Yes, it is a bit short, as you might have heard already, but that isn't what bothered me. The problem is that the levels get less and less fun and interesting toward the end. For example, the precipice is just repetitive and there is almost no eye candy. Another disappointing level was called "The Top of the World," which was marked by a big tree on the map. I thought I was going to exploring huge heights, but after a so-so zoom on a chair through the level, the rest was just the ugly insides of the pirate hideout. Of course, you will still have fun with this game. Platform fans should definitely check this one out.
One of the best Dreamcast games you can buy!

Rayman 2 is a GREAT game! It's graphics are good, and it's gameplay is simply perfect! EVERY Dreamcast owner should get this game! It's challenging, intriguing, and fun. You're supposed to think your way through massive levels (54 to be exact) to get the 4 Masks of Polokus. It's really cool! Get RAYMAN 2: THE GREAT ESCAPE!

I was left speachless by this game. I'd played Rayman for Playstation several years ago and didn't think too much of it. Having played Rayman 2, I can't believe how much console gaming has advanced in the last few years.
This game is much better than Sonic Adventure which in itself is a very good game.
I enthusiastically recommend it.

Now,don't get me wrong.Rayman 2 isn't that bad. It's just very easy!I beat the game in 6 days and I beat the last boss on my 2nd try!None the less, going throught the game is extremly fun. It even has 3 mini games(whick you have to earn by finding magic crystals). The bosses are fun, and you meet friens along the way to help you.Unfortunitly, you can't control them or play as them in 2 player mode. The graphics are great, but after you beat the game it's kind of boring.Even though you get power ups and you get to replenish your power in a race with a computer controlled friend, some levels just take so long to beat that it's annoying. The bonus level after you collect all the "lums" in a level is more annoying than fun and I fin that every time I turn my sega dreamcast on my file that I beat the game on is missing lums that I have had before. It's worth being bought but it's not perfect.
Fans of the original will not be pleased...

First of all, this is a good game and both fun and pretty to look at. However, there are some serious flaws. Many of the levels have the player navigating narrow, corridors with sharp turns for no apparent reason. This game is very short and is not challenging at all, as others have pointed out.
This is also one of the few Dreamcast games that offer 16:9 widescreen TV support, although it's a shame the output is not anamorphic, but those with widescreen TV sets will be pleased as it does offer a wider view of the world, which can be helpful since the camera control is rather poor.
But the real disappointment comes in the deviation from the original Rayman. While the bright colors and many of the background effects (like the self-stacking mushrooms and butterflies are familiar entities fromt the original), many of the characters and environments in this new version do not fit in with the world of Rayman. The first Rayman was a vast game with lots of variety and also very challenging, often keeping users occupied for months on end... This sequel looks mostly the same the whole way through, is very short, and not challenging in any measurable way.
Some other reviewers have have said that Rayman just does not belong in 3D, but I disagree. I think a 3D Rayman is a great idea, however this title just didn't have the same atmosphere as the original and failed to deliver the same depth of gameplay due to poor camera control (especially compared to most other 3D platform games) and the very limited environments and length of the game.
Fans of the original or those looking for a challenging game that will keep them busy for a while, will be sorely disappointed with this one. However, it is still an entertaining title for those looking for pretty graphics and relatively easy gameplay.
Those who have not played the original may not find so much of this game as bothersome as I do.

Rayman 2 is really fun because you don't like beat it in 1 day it actually takes months,(dependung on how good you are). It took Me about 1 month to beat it.You can only select 1 character(rayman)but there are many different characters throughout the game like,RAYMAN,globox, the robot-pirates,the rayman destroyer robot, the robot-pirate captain,ly the fairy, sssssssam the snake, and more. If you like long-lasting adventures, buy this!
Definitely a good buy

I bought myself a used Dreamcast last year, and so far Rayman 2 has been one of the best games I have for it.
For fans of the Playstation version, it is a slight disappointment that there aren't actual voices for the cutscenes, which was something that added to the game.
There are some better things about it, though. For one, the frames per second is 60, as oppose to the PS1 version's 30. The graphics are very sharp, and the animation is very well done.
The levels are slightly different than its Playstation counterpart, and involves more maneuvers and features. Also, there is an exclusive multiplayer level found only on the Dreamcast version.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who still has a working Dreamcast. Oh, and it only takes up two blocks of memory space on the VMU, so memory is not an issue. Unless you only have one block.
One teeny-weeny drawback

This is a great adventure for the whole family! I agree with all the positive reviews I've read so far.
However, it was difficult for our just-turned six-year-old to play by himself and keep up with the written captions. It would have been much less frustrating for him to have had verbal English captions (like Sonic).
short but fun

This is definitely one of the funnest games for the Dreamcast so far, but I'm not sure it was worth the high cost just because it was over after I played it for just a few hours. Plus I wish there were more cinematic scenes for us to get to know the characters better. If the game had been longer, it would have been one of my favorite platforming games ever!
