I've been playing this game since it's Japanese release and it still is one of my favorites. While the single player game might eventually leave you wanting more, the two player aspect is where this game really shines.
The game takes a very basic approach to a fighting game. You have a punch, jump, and kick button, which can be linked together for combos and juggling type moves. The speed at which the game runs is insane. Once the round starts your heart is racing, frantically trying to pounce your opponent with a chair or table, while they're trying to do the same, and whoever collects 3 "Powerstones" first turns into a super charged version of themselves with new moves and a lot more power!
Also worth mention is the little extras you get for beating the game. New characters, weapons, VMU mini games, character endings, the list goes on and on.
Even though I've played the game to death, it still gets it's daily spin in my Dreamcast. This game should definintely be on everyones 'must have' list.
Don't overlook this awesome game!

With all the other great Dreamcast games out there some folks might overlook this awesome game. It's a totally unique experience to say the least. A lot of the other reviews sum this game up well but I'm going to touch more on the characters you can play as.
You can choose from one of 8 different fighters and several more will unlock as you play for a total of 11. Each fighter has their own strengths and weaknesses. Big strong fighters like Galuda and Gunrock *sometimes* don't even need powerstones to win. They can chuck tables and barrels at you like a Randy Johnson fastball. They can also rip a support beam out of the ground and smack their opponent across the arena like they was Mark Maguire. The smaller more agile fighters like Ayame, Wang Tang and Rouge are weaklings at best and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with their weak throw strength but move so fast and grab Powerstones so often that they don't need to rely on throwing stuff or damaging grab moves. Other more rounded characters like Ryoma and Falcon are typically good for beginners who aren't yet accustomed to the intricacies of the game. They're good but they don't really play with the style or flair that the other characters do. And then there's Jack the Slayer, the wierdest character in the game. He crawls on the ground like an insect and he moves along at a pretty alarming rate. His moves are unorthodox and can confuse players. After you beat the games several times you unlock extra weapons that you pop up randomly during each battle adding new ways for you to pummel your opponent with the quickness.
Bottom line: This is one of the funnest 2 player games on the Dreamcast right now and if I were you I would pick it up as soon as possible. It's a classic that no one should miss out on.

This is one of the best fighting games that i have ever played (other than killer instinct), and i have to congratulate sega on it. The graphics are amazing there are plenty of characters to choose from, the levels are all varied and the two player mode has kept my friends and I busy for months.

Upbeat scintillating graphics blended with furius beat-down action are the magic formula creating Powerstone. As a 1 player game its somewhat average. Most of the time the cpu will pound me to the ground unrelentlessly. With two players however the true beauty of this game shines through. Use lamp posts, benches bazookas, you name it to pummel the competition to submission. And if you happen to collect three powerstones you are transformed into super ass whipper. A fun but horribly unbalanced form that is nearly impossible to protect yourself from. as I mentioned before, far more entertaining with a friend than by yourself. I give it 3/5 one player play and 5/5 2 player play!

This game is unlike any other fighting game. You get to throw stuff at each other and pick up weapons like rocket launchers all over the room. The matches last longer than say...Soul Calibur, where I can blink and all the sudden some 5 year old has just wasted me by pounding on the controler with the palm of his hand. Everytime I play Soul Calibur I find myself staring at the controler twisting my fingers trying to do some combo or special move. If you play video games for fun, this is for you. You get to interact with the environment and the matches arn't over before you can say "mercy". I also recommed getting Power Stone 2 when it comes out. You'll be able to play with 4 players and even throw one player at another. Sound fun, doesn't it?

This game was fantastic. The graphics were great and so was the format of the gameplay. I played it once and fell in love with it. If you have a Dreamcast you have to buy it. You can't stop playing once you start because of the excitment. I strongly suggest you to buy it.
This is the most incredible fighting game EVER!

This game has so much to it. The controls are easy to use and rather simple, but once you learn the combinations, the results are deadly. Take advantage of the 3D environment and all the weapons and objects to use, it brings a level to the game never seen before in fighting games. I would definetly recommend picking up the strategy guide since it shows you the moves for every player. Knowing those moves makes the game fast-paced and fanatic. Great game!
Powerstone is a very exciting, 3-D packed thriller...

Powerstone is a very nice, neat fighting game. It has all the pros of Super Smash Bros and none of its cons! You won't be disapointed. Trust me on this one.

Wow. I have never disagreed with gamespot as much as I do now. Although they gave it a good score, they criticized it for being simplistic in it's depth. Sure the jump kick is a powerful move, but I invite their editors to try it on me. I've played Powerstone since it came out in the arcades, and admittedly at first I was a jump kicking scrub, but with much play, I found a deeper level to Powerstone's play. Believe me, once you take the time to master the intricacies of this game, it has a system that may not be as deep as Virtua Fighter 3 or Street Fighter Alpha 3, but it's definetly one of the more complex games out there to master. Perhaps because flip-kicking off the walls and using the various weapons is not as orthodox as the varios combo systems or linking techniques the videogames staff overlooked it, but this is a game where a master of the technique can definetly show a scrub who's boss. This game rocks and is one of the 8 launch titles I have reserved.
