Worst Fighting Game Ever

If you want to have any amout of fun, go pickup Soul Calibur, and leave Power Stone on the shelf. Soul Calibur is to a Ferrari as Power Stone is to a Pinto.

ONE TRICK PONY PLAYERS WOULD LOVE THIS GAME

If you want a game that you can master in 5 mins with any character then POWER STONE IS IT. I beat the game as I got it once I discovered "the formula"...

I'll list the pros and cons to give you a fair rundown

Pros
1) Characters are unique and fun with personality, i.e. personal story, ending etc (missing from PS2)
2) Backrounds are the BOSS and fully interactive
3) The moves and effects are radical (King Capcom shines here)
4) Fast action
5) Cool Japanese voices

Cons
1) One dimensional fighting sucks as a 3D fighting game!!
2) Weapons make no sense once you know the formula! They just slow you down and make you a prime target for the formula!!

Overall
Overall this is a DISAPPOINTING attempt at a fighting game. The concept is good but the fighting engine is flawed. Powerstone 2 got it right and is a blast, read my review!

Interesting game, too hard to play though

I bought the game on the strength of the reviews which called it's gameplay revolutionary and the fighting well done.

When I actually played the game I found it very confusing and the special attacks (without the powerups) difficult to master.

At first I thought it was just me and the game was just not my genre but then my brother and my cousin (who loved the game in the arcade) played it. They liked the game, against each other, and enjoyed the two player mode (although a less experienced player has NO CHANCE against someone who has played the game before, not even close) Is very hard to just get lucky in this game.

However once they tried to play the computer it was immediately apparent that even with knowing the super moves and having other people in the room trying to help you to find all of the gems the computer was much more advanced than the player. This was on the default setting. Since the characters are sort of uneven in power levels to begin with there were some computer controlled characters that just could not be beaten which does not make the game fun to play.

Since you cannot block in the game it just became a running battle all over the screen with the computer with an obvious advantage for the majority of the fight.

Would only recommend this game for someone who had already mastered it in the arcade as the home experience is very frustrating. But then if you already played this game out in the arcade you have no reason to buy the home version as the home game offers nothing new beyond a practice mode.

Did not like this game and will trade it in at a game shop at my first opportunity.

This is the first game I bought for my dreamcast that I did not like.

The point is?

If I had to be simple and brief in my review of this video game, I would say - BORING.

Best with friends

Upbeat scintillating graphics blended with furius beat-down action are the magic formula creating Powerstone. As a 1 player game its somewhat average. Most of the time the cpu will pound me to the ground unrelentlessly. With two players however the true beauty of this game shines through. Use lamp posts, benches bazookas, you name it to pummel the competition to submission. And if you happen to collect three powerstones you are transformed into super ass whipper. A fun but horribly unbalanced form that is nearly impossible to protect yourself from. as I mentioned before, far more entertaining with a friend than by yourself. I give it 3/5 one player play and 5/5 2 player play!

This is one of the best fighting games that i have ever played (other than killer instinct), and i have to congratulate sega on it. The graphics are amazing there are plenty of characters to choose from, the levels are all varied and the two player mode has kept my friends and I busy for months.

Powerstone is a very exciting, 3-D packed thriller...

Powerstone is a very nice, neat fighting game. It has all the pros of Super Smash Bros and none of its cons! You won't be disapointed. Trust me on this one.

Best 3-D Fighter out of Capcom

I extremly enjoyed this game it has an amazing replay value. I find that ability to use the enviroment to your advantage is a lot of fun. the only problem that I have experienced on both my demo version and full version is that after about a hour to an hour and a half the sound begins to drop away like first the speaking disappear then the background music and finally the action sounds like a punch or kick. But I never actually notice it until some walks in the room and says "Why are you playing with the sound off." Other than that I have had friends say to me "I'd buy a Dreamcast just to play PowerStone." It is a great game.

this is the 2nd most original fighter ive played in a long time behind whatever mario's fighter was called. its a great game to play with a lot of people due to the short matches, simple controls, and relatively low learning curve. nice graphics as well, of course.

Powerful Game

Power Stone... It is just plain fun. It is like playing a wacky version of WWF Wrestlemania 2000. Tables, chairs, flame-throwers and explosives round out the weapons selection. The graphics are nice and the control is excellent. However, the gameplay can be frustrating. If players concentrate on dodging attacks and grabbing power stones, the character can turn into a "super" version of themselves. This tactic can greatly offset the balance of the game and frustrate the other players. Get 3 stones twice, and you are almost guaranteed a win. All in all, the fun factor alone is worth the buy. Excellent party game!
