I really think that this game should have had better graphics. There are many glitches which often occur- such as people disapperaing in thin air. Maybe its just my computer(Pent3) but i think that this game could have been a lot better.
eh...

i bought this game shortly after it came out. i'm sitting here and i honestly can't even remember it. i have a great memory for video games, but i just can't remember a single level or mission parameter of this game. i sold it soon after beating it. nothing that great aside from the locational damage and the great character models. other than that, this game really was nothing great.
Great Game....Buggy

I got this game in a sound blaster card package...I installed it and instantly loved it. It is a great first person shooter- single player and multi...The only reason I did not give it a 5 star ratin is because I have tried it on 3 computers that are about high mid-level systems...And it ran buggy on all of them.
Yawn....

I really expected more from this game. Having recently acquired America's Army and Medal of Honor I found SOF2 to be a big let down.
For starters there's the realism factor which is just about zero. I was in the Army for 10 years and there is no way you're going to be running around with that much firepower. Furthermore the weapons are very poorly modeled. I've fired the M4 carbine, an AK, M203, and the M3 Greasegun (still issued to M60 tank crews as recently as the early '90s) and SOF2 does a terrible job with all of them. Better weapons modelling is to be found in America's Army or even Medal of Honor. Also you can't shoot in the prone position which is incredibly unrealistic.
Next up are the bad guys who are so stupid you almost feel sad for them. Their only redeeming value is in the spectacular way in which they explode when hit. This is probably the most entertainment to be had with this game.
The missions are so linear that any strategy is pointless. Just run forth and shoot. This might be exciting if you're a hyperactive teenager with ADD and a 12 pack of Mt. Dew but I found it to grow old after just a few rounds.
The single player value is pretty limited. There's a random mission generator but I couldn't help but notice that every map it generates seems to be pretty much the same.
Finally, the graphics are so-so at best. Not on par with either America's Army or Medal of Honor. I'd say they're only a small notch above SWAT 3 and that game has been out for a couple of years!
If you're looking for something more on the realistic side get America's Army. If it's an arcade style shooter you seek get Medal of Honor which has better AI and graphics.

Read that this has been recommended over Counter-strike-Condition Zero just dont no how amazon can say that since Counter-strike-Condition Zero isnt released untill october. that said Sof2 is ok has a good graphics engine but you need a decent PC, probably 1500Mhz+ and geforce3/Ati 8500 or better to avoid lag or alternativly have poor detail. The game can be annoying if you dont like having to go through the level time and again due to it been easy to die and a long time between restart points, so if your 5m short of the end you have to start again if you die. The enemy are quite intelligent and will grenade you if you hang back and dont stay in the same place so there fun to play against but they can kill you quick. later levels are better than the early ones which is a shame as the 1st 3 levels might put you off, later levels see you leading a squad but to be honest you still have to do all the work. The gore level is high but this can be turned off for the younger player and is probably an attraction to a teen player and the effects are good if bloody. The multiplayer maps are large and detailed and played in the doom/quake style and this version of the game is the most fun as its better to play with someone else then yourself. I cant see there being a large online community for SOF2 as the maps are to be honest too big and its an effort to find a bad guy to kill. Myself id rather play the medal of honour series or mafia in fact as an overall game id rather play half life again and save £30. Online SOF2 has nothing on counterstrike. Counterstrike has better maps more players more community and a lot more shelf life, oh and its free i no what ill play.
at the end of the day Sof2 is a solid 1st person shooter but its nothing mould breaking wait until its out on budget.

Soldier of Fortune II : Double Helix is a fps set in the real world. You play John Mullins, a black-ops soldier taking on an evil organisation which tries to spread a deadly virus. The game takes place in different parts of the world from dense colombian forest, snowlands, a ship, an aeroplane ect. The multiplayer gameplay is great and fun online but the single player gameplay is dull with poor level design and dumb enemy ai. The game is very hard because the enemies are very strong and the hero takes a lot of damage in a single shot. The game seem to cheat a bit, i dont know how the alarm goes on in the stealth missions and some enemies seems to be in god mode like the snippers in the first mansion level. The hero also keep of playing with his weapon, like he throws his shotgun in the air and catches it which makes me very angry. The random mission generator is boring and unplayable because it does allow save games. Sof2 is built on the quake3 engine, i played it on the OpenGL video mode and it runs great. The graphics and sound are great, the swimming pool in the mansion level is very beautifull, but most of the game is brown in color. The load times are very long and unlike other q3a games like rtcw and mohaa the quick loading is not instant. Sof1 was a great game and i have even played the game till late night, this one does not even come close, It is very boring and dull. Soldier of Fortune II's single player is disappointing but the multiplayer is good.
Multiplayer is very fun

First off, I haven't played Counter-Strike so I'm fresh to the tactical shooter genre, but based on what everyone has said it is VERY similar. But take into account these facts.
1. I've seen screens of CS, and the SOF2 graphics are superior.
2. The gore is awesome, if a little too disgusting at times.
3. Like I said, haven't played CS, but the weapons look better too. The recoil is realistic, and you actually have to aim to kill your opponent. But, if your not careful, you'll die quick out in the open. You can lean outta corners and pop 'em quick anyway.
4. Last but not least for multiplay (MP), I know the cheating on CS, or any other half life mod for that matter, is extremely bad. Various commands and hacks allow auot-aim, quickly ending an enjoyable MP experience. SOF2 MP is real fun and cheating is almost non-existent
5. As for single-player it's decent, its just fun to see the bad guys do their different death animations really. Seeing what weapons have different effects on simulated flesh and all. The RMG(random-mission-generator) is also good but only if you have a good computer. It allows for some nice replay, and some missions allow you to take various entrances into bases/encampments by puttin in little creeks and side passages with cover so you can pop 'em with minimal effort and maximum enjoyment.
Bottom Line: If you are intrigued/interested about what I've said, buy. You won't regret it.

the gore....a+

the maps....a+
THE SCHEME..D
The blood is outrageous backed up by a unique gore feature...which locks the gore for all you parents with curious children as I once was. State of the art weapons choice. The Maps are as detailed as they come with a (geforce 4 ti 4200) game is a storage sucker. But as another review said the shceme was all in all impossible. He would often walk into hostile areas armed with his m4 and his pistol...or if you didn't apply the cheats as I did. Every corney there is a terrorist bunker as if United Nations was going to turn that corner, yet to say the least one man.
This game is OUTSTANDING!!

Though I have been playing video games for some time now, I have never seen anything like SOF2. The graphics are outstanding and the difficulty level is not a "come and kill me" AI (Artificial Inteligence).
So Far I havent seen any bugs. The game performs superbly well.
I recommend this game!!
