Well if your in first person shooters, you've come to the right place. I've played just about every hot FPS that has come out in the past year or so (and reviewed MANY of them on amazon, but this one needs its own category.
The graphics are truly awesome. The sound is up there with Ghost Recon (although not QUITE as intense), and the game play is great. Anyone who says the enemy AI is no good is obviously playing this game on amatuer level or something. At some points its actually to GOOD. You get 5 quick saves per section, which is usually plenty if you use them wisely. The story isn't the GREATEST, but hey it works just fine. The weapons are cool, but the real difference in this game to others is the graphic violence.
There is a parental violence lock in the options menu, and you'll soon find out why. With full violence enabled, you'll probably be shocked at what is shown after you blast your enemy 20 times with an AK 47. I wont go into details, but this is DEFINETLY an ADULT game if violence is fully enabled. Trust me. If your into that kind of realism, then it just adds to how great this game is. Personally I think its amazing just how real it all is.
Overall I think this is one of the better games that has come out in the past year for the PC. Its a fun, fast paced, eye candy loaded game. Enjoy.
For reference, the two systems I ran this game on were:
P 4 2.8ghz, Geforce 4 Ti 4600, 512 MB RAM, 19inch Trintron monitor
and
P 4 1.6, Geforce 3 Ti 200, 700 MBs Ram, 21 inch trinitron monitor
Except for slight slowdowns on the 1.6, it pretty much looked the same on both, except when 4x AA was enabled on the 2.8.
Generaly good but goes by fast.

I enjoyed SOF2 and was generally pleased with it. It was a good game, and one I would recommend to any FPS fan. Its many features were well done. While I would give it high scores in most areas I can't help but think one thing; it's too short.
Most of the levels, while detailed, were small for the space they tried to project. A good example is the missions in South America. These were much hyped, but still fell to the pitfalls of the Quake3 engine. Q3 isn't known for rendering large outdoor environments, and this shows when you are limited to moving in small valleys and between steep hills, stuck to one path. While it might look pretty, and it does, there is nothing more to see. So to add length, each environment is usually a string of several levels together. With the player limited to a linear route the missions (and the game) can go by fast.
I did like the AI. I think SOF2 has some of the best AI on the PC market today. While the AI in Ghost Recon and Return to Castle Wolfenstien were good, I think SOF2 might even have surpassed them. The AI is aggressive, but not stupid. They will generally do a good job of hunting you down, moving between cover, leaning around corners, using grenades to flush you out, create a smoke screen or blind you, and using dropped weapons. However this is a mixed bag. Even on some of the easier difficulty levels the AI is almost TOO good. Such as often detecting me when they should not (like while I might be moving silently under cover) or too accurate with hand grenades, making it impossible to find protection.
I liked multi-player but it was nothing new to me. The random mission generator was a nice touch, but again suffers from being more of the same.
Overall I liked it and would recommend it, I just will not be playing it again anytime soon.
best multiplayer ever.

it was quite a large contribution to me almost failing my classes
its that good. best multiplayer ever, in fact. and getting better with constant updates.
my only complaints: sniper scope is rock steady all the time, and people have this annoying habit of calling you "gay". but the latter to be explected in any game.
What a waste of money!

Being an avid fan of 1st person shooters, there are few I don't own. Soldier of Fortune (version 1) is a favorite of mine in the area of close combat and weapons variety. How wrong I was to buy the second verson SOF2. The AI is very poor, the graphics are plain, the weapons too common, the exits in missions far to hard to find, and the story line almost non-existant. This game (SOF2) in no way resembles its predessesor in game play or feel. SOF2 is a broken promise of great FPS gaming. Instead I recommend Rogue Spear Platinum Pack (Rogues Spear with Urban Operations)for its many weapons mods to try hundreds of different weapons. I also do recommend JK2JO (Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast) and DFLW (Deltaforce 3 "Landwarrior").
So far....VERY Good !

The first Soldier Of Fortune was incredible, and this one stands to draw the crowd in that didn't play the first one. There is a test multiplayer release out for the public to partake in, and even with only one level the game proves worthy of purchase. Raven has yet to disappoint on any release, and SoF2:DH is no exception. Multiple gameplay modes allow for experiences similar to games from Rogue Spear to Q3A types. A definate must-buy in my book. ;o)
BEST GRAPICS EVER!

I personally think this game is worth what you pay, others of course beleive that this is game is to "simple" and that the weapons you can carry is quite insane... If you beleive it is to simple change the difficulty to harder setting. If it to hard you can go into the custom settings and change what you need to help you beat the game. This game also has the "random mission generator" which you can pick what type of mission you like to play, assasination, demolition, Etc, which can random with each new "seed" Numbers unlike the original sof. Soldier of Fortune also has multiplayer option to play with other people "deathmatch" over the net. With a wide variety of player skins. Last but not least the gore is quite more realistic than the Orginal Sof. I enjoyed this game alot. If you like intense action I would strongly recommend this game.
pretty good but not great

SOF, released in 2000, was an extremely gory and violent shooter with no pretense at strategy or tactics. It was simply an extemely violent game with great graphics (for its time). Now there is a sequel. I think perhaps they've added a bit too much to this one. It's just as gory and violent, even more so, but now there are a number of "stealth" missions in which your character must sneak into a mansion, onto a train, onto a boat etc. without being seen. The enemy AI is pretty good, so you almost always get spotted, which sets off an alarm. The guide book has cheat codes that allow you to skip these missions, which become annoying very quickly.
The combat missions however are great, very fast paced and violent. The only drawback is that enemies are rather stationary and tend to stay in a limited area. Sometimes they'll come into the next room but will rarely follow you very far. If you kill all enemies in an area, you usually can take time to look for more ammo or weapons or med kits. The cut scene animations are OK but take up a LOT of space on your hard drive.
All in all, I enjoyed this game. If you are new to SOF, I recommend buying the first game.
Excellent...If you've got the rig!

SOF2...While the graphics have been spoken of in a less than favorable tone, I feel that, sadly , those people are due for a processor, motherboard and video card upgrade if they want impressive graphics. The default settings lean to the side of performance (speed). Slightly better graphics may be attainable with some adjustment of the detail settings. Graphics look as good (or better) than MOH2,RTCW. They should, same engine. Gameplay is great if you like gore, and plenty of it. Sound is unbelievable on a SB Audigy w/EAX. Get the rig first...then get the game!!
Awesome graphics, not enough plot.

GRAPHICS: 9/10
The graphics can be one of two things; jaw-dropping, or [bad]. A good gaming rig is almost necessary to enjoy these graphics. Anything below 1280x1024 resolution with 2x antialias isn't much better than the first SOF. Luckily, I have a top-of-the-line system and was able to enjoy the detail of this game. You can see the pores in the faces of enemies and NPCs. Especially notable is the character's eyes... so real it's almost creepy... The gore graphics are extremely realistic... This is definately not a family game.
SOUND: 10/10
This game makes me thank god every day for my Audigy Platinum Sound Card. The EAX Advanced HD sound is unbelievable, and a new standard in interactive entertainment. If you've heard the DTS sound in Saving Private Ryan's intro battle, that's very similar to the quality in this game. By far, this is the best sound I've heard in a game to date. The music is fantastic and very suspensful. The Dynamic Music Engine is a brilliant idea, and I wish it was used more in games. The voice acting is pretty good. Mark Hamil (AKA Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy) lends his voice to one of the game's leading roles.
STORY: 6/10
The story is only mildly interesting, and way too short and simple. It's also been done before. However, the way the story is delivered is very cinematic. The cut-scenes, like in most games, are in an "anamorphic" format. You play John Mullins, in his furthur adventures after the incidents that took place in the first SOF game as a top secret military operative working for an anti-terrorist organization known as "The Shop". The sequel's first mission is more like a "prequel" or flashback. after that, it picks up where the first one left off. In this game John has to fend off biological warfare. The story is kind of shallow though, and parts that are supposed to be emotional moments don't succeed. This, I think, is due to the general lack of character development. I didn't time my playing time, but it seems like SOF2 was a lot shorter than the first one.
MULTIPLAYER: 9/10
I'm more of a singleplayer gamer, but the MP in this game is very enjoyable. This game certainly replaces Quake 3 for my MP needs (however few and far between they may be). You'll never have more fun digitally shooting your friend's intestines out than you will in this game. That is, until SOF3 comes out.
GAMEPLAY: 8/10
Very fun. Only reason it didn't get a 10 is because nothing about the gameplay is original.
FINAL SCORE: 7/10
