Hello I'm writing this review to tell you what a bad game this is. Starting with the title.... Metropolis STREET RACER. By that you'd think you'd actually be racing, but no your just goin through hours and hours of TESTS!! Yes i said tests. And then finally after 3 hourse youre finally finished. so u get the car, right? WRONG!! you have to get under a certain time to get the stinkin car!! my final thing is just dont waste ur time/money buying such a dumb game instead get tokyo extreme racer 1 or 2 they are a lot better with a lot better graphics !
Kudos 4 me...kudos 4 you..kudos 4 everyone...except the game

From what I read about Metropolis Street Racer I expected a solid racing game with speed but got neither. The game favors no contact driving instead of fun...uh I mean speed. Imagine a racing gamme with no speed...who on earth could think of such a dumb concept its like a Sonic game without speed or a Doom type game without guns
Really a sad disapointment. The graphics are okay but the game play SUCKS!! Avoid this like SARS

With all the great reviews of MSR I found here on Amazon, I almost ordered the game sight unseen. Then I decided to head to the rental store and try it out first. Thank Heavens I did.
This game is utter tripe. I am a huge fan of racing games, I love all genres on just about all platforms, and so I was really excited to see MSR. What a letdown.
First off, the graphics. The cities are rendered wonderfully, the vehicles are rendered woefully. Please, there's no real lighting effect, the vehicles are bland and always super shiny new. Even street textures are poor, and slapping tire skidmarks on them does not make them any better. Weak graphics.
The game physics in general are nice, as the cars handle like the real thing. Unfortunately, they decided to ignore anything to do with reality when it comes to crashes and damage. If a car hits a wall, it should bounce, crumple, and have some damage effect. Not here, you just come to a soft stop like you'd do in an arcade game. WEAK. This game has no damage effect at all, the only ill that comes with a crash is you lose points and time. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I managed to drive RIGHT THROUGH competitor's cars. You just have to t-bone them and you pass right through. WEAK.
Overall, not worth even worth [the money].
Don't buy!!!

This game would be good IF and only IF all cars were unlocked and you didn't have to "earn kudos"... there should be a seperate option where u get to race any car you want at any time without having to earn it
this game is not kool

THis is a lousey game. there isn't too much else to say about it. The only reason it didn't get 1 star is for it's decent graphics, but that's about it. The cars are slow, the music 'bites', and what the hell is a wey hey anyway!? And who's idea was it to call this street racing? This game consists of alpha romeos, opels, and saabs driving at slow speeds during the day time with lame am radio going. I'm sorry. That's just not what street racing is all about. If you want real street racing, get tokyo xtreme racer! And if you are getting tired of this game's slow moving cars, then play mario kart. Those cars are alot faster.
Lack realism and lighting

This game is pretty cool, but the realism I was looking for was not there. Most of the tracks are dimly lit, so its hard to see where you are going. This game is freeking hard too man! You get penalties for crashing into walls, and you're even penalized for side-swiping other cars to get ahead of them. Why? It's a racing game, the idea it to get ahead. In short, the penalties are deducted from your points, and unless you gain enough points, you cant advance in the game. I purchased this game since Grand Tourismo 3 for PS2 was delayed. If you own a Dreamcast and a PS2 like me, wait for GT3.
Very Innovative, but Very Difficult to Play

I waited about a year for this game to come out, and when it did came out I purchased it the first day. The first time I played I was amazed over the graphics, this game has the best graphics I have ever seen in a racing game. The sound is very good also, a neat feature it has is that you can create a custom CD to play while you're driving. The control is perhaps the best I've ever come accross in a racer, for those gamers out there who played Gran Turismo 1&2 for the playstation, you know about those annoying spin outs. I mean you're driving straight down the road on a straightaway and a turn comes up so you press the brakes, and the %$#ing car spins out. That's doesn't happen in real life, neither does it happen in Metropolis. If you're pressing the brakes before a turn and even during a turn the car does not spin out. On to the fun factor, this game is very fun to play, up until you need to reach the next level, then it becomes very hard, sometimes I think I'll never get to the next level. The Kudos point system gives you penalties for the slightest hit against the guard rails, the other cars, etc... What they should have done was make the point system more forgiving to gamers. That's the only flaw I found in the game, other than that it's has a very different approach from other racers. The developers did a great job making it, but forgot to realize one thing that this game is a game, we are supposed to enjoy it not worry about hitting the side of the road. There are times when I race 2 perfect laps, and on the third I hit the Guard Rail, there goes my 2 laps of perfection.
3.5 Stars out of 5 - This game could have been better if...

This game was recomended to me by several people and I went to the store the next day to get it. They didn;t have it so I bought Test Drive Le Mans. Then I went to "Best Buy" and they obviuosly had MSR so I purchased that as well. So here I was heading home with two new racing titles, anxious to try them out. MSR paled in comparisson to Test Drive Le Mans. TDLM is by far and away the best game for DC (Go read my review for it) and sadly, MSR had some smewhat major frustrations. I will start with the good points: A lot of people complaimed or praised the music in the game. I will give a hearty thumbs up. It varies from country, which I hate, to almost techno/acid jazz european beats. The only people I think who wouldn;t like the music are Alternative or punk fans. Secondly, the cars look very real. Extremly smooth and easy to drive. The cities are very detailed and the ever-changing environmental effects are gorgeous.
Now the bad: First of all there is a sysytem of "Kudos" used. In other words when racing, if you do power slides and keep ot real clean then you are given kudos. They are a lot like money because you need a certain amount to advance in the game. When you begin a race you also have to decide how many kudo points you would like to gamble. I think this aspect is not only tremendously confusing, but distracts from the playability. The tracks are also way too small and there are only three cities to race in. And again, the whole system of kudos really ruined the game for me. I am a huge racing game fan so I will definetly keep it and tackle it later, but as we speak Test Drive Le Mans sits in my Dreamcast, as it has since I purchased it, just begging me to play again, again, and again. If you need a new racer for your DC, buy TDLM. If you already have TDLM, then this might be a good purchase. If you don;t have either, make sure you buy TDLM before MSR.
