great looking, great playing, really frustrating

This was one of the first titles I bought for my DC, and I really really wanted to love it. The graphics are absolutely top-notch and the gameplay is addicting; however, it's really, really, REALLY hard. So hard, in fact, that I've really stopped trying; it's frustrating to race an absolutely perfect race and come no higher than 4th. Definitely rent this one first.

Don't take 3 stars as a bad rating, really!

First I will discuss the good points about the game: Great graphics, great sound, cool looking boats and tracks,and the controls are easy to learn and use.

Bad things: A lot of slowdown(espeshily in two player mode), only 13 tracks and boats,a lot of times your boat will intersect(or go through solid objects,) no different from the arcade except two player.(no added simulation or anything else to do besides just race,and it's too easy(if you didn't hear me correctly, TOO EASY)the only level I actually found hard was Venice Canals. When I beat that, I beat the game!(I've only been playing the game for 5 days.)

Now that you've read my review, you can probably tell that there were more bad than good things about the game. But when I first got this game and played it, if I wrote a review then I would have given it 4 stars.

I think this game is good for a rent, but I'd pass on buying it, unless you really like the game.

I loved the arcade version, and the Dreamcast game is just as good (almost). The only downside is the sound, which is not quite as "in your face." Also, when playing 2 players, the split screen takes away some of your view (but hey, what do you expect from a home version?). This game is lots of fun with great replay value. Graphics and control are phenomenal. If you like to race, this is the best.

Hydro Thunder is mindless arcade fun

this is a great title indeed, from awsome graphics to Mindless gameplay. But be warned... it gets old quick. At first, Hydro Thunder is very fun, but after you play it for about a week, it gets old, its time to move on. hydro thunder is best suited as a rental than a buy. if your looking for mindless arcade racing with great graphics and cheap gameplay then look no further. otherwise, rent it, play it, be done with it and save your money for a better game like soul calibur or sonic adventure.

One of my Favorite arcade/Dreamcast games!

I love this game. The graphics, the sound effects, the hidden boats, the secret passages, and (best of all) saving a bunch of money by playing at home. The reason for a "4" rating is due to the difficulty of the game. The hard levels can get very frustrating. I also hate time limits that barely give enough time. Mastering the boost jumps is a MUST to beat this game. More racing tracks would have been nice, but this game is meant to bring the arcade experince home. This game is fun and fast. If you've got a Rumble Pack, you can control the force of the "rumbles" that happen when you hit boats or splash in the water. There isn't too much "slow down" in single or two player mode either. This is arcade racing excitement at its best!

Very cool! Anyone can play yet it is very challenging. Graphics are great and you have lots of boats and courses to choose from. It keeps your interest for a long time. A must buy!

My son (aged 7) and I are NOT seasoned gamers who have racked up hundreds of hours in the arcade -- we are new to video games, and just wanted a game we could have fun with right away, and this game is it! The beginning levels are easy to start playing, yet fun. The graphics ARE great, and the variety of courses is fascinating. There seems to be sufficient increased difficulty in the more advanced courses to keep us interested as we get better.

This is a great game!

Hydro Thunder is a good game, it's fun and all. Just Like Any Other racing game, it tends to get repetitive. The game is fun and exciting just about untill you attain all the boards and cars. One other flaw.. The game (when played on the Dreamcast) slows down a bit when played on TWO player mode..Like I said, its JUST LIKE ANY OTHER racing game, they all get boring much quicker then your regular RPG or Action Adventure Game, but hey this game is worth the money..You'll definitly be playing it for a couple of months..

Must Have Racer for Dreamcast

This is almost arcade perfect. The speed and enjoyment of this racer is almost unmached by today's racers STILL (BurnOut 3 & Revenge are in my mind the only better). A MUST HAVE for Dreamcast owners.

This is just an all out great game. I love to play it with myself or my friends. This game has great graphics and has many selection of boats! I would recommend you to get this game.
