I recomend you buy this game cause of the great graphics and you always have a goal to beat. You have a good selection of boats and races. I recomend you buy this game.

as many racing games attempt to advance the genre by somewhat superficial features, hydro thunder actually suceeds in advancing the genre by changing the fundamentals! the boats' steering is unique to any car racing game and rather accurate as well. the graphics are captivating although there are a few minor bugs in the way it handles the boundaries and your watercraft. also, the load times are a little long, but those cons are far outweighed by the pros. i don't usually like racing games, but it's definitely worth the money. if you like racing games, there's no excuse for you not to purchase this one. (2 player action is only good if you have a large screen to play on).

As a rule, I don't enjoy racing games because they're unrealistic and I can generally master them quickly. Hydro Thunder is no different, and that is what makes it such an entertaining game. Although you don't need much driving skill (just hold down the accelerate trigger and know when/where to use the boost), the varying race courses and scenery will keep you awake and wondering what might come along next (killer whales?). It's only weakness is that, like any driving/racing game, it does become somewhat repetitive over time.

I played this game at numerous arcades and the action never got old. I found that the racers never act the same twice. The multiplayer function was great. I highly recommend this game.

A lot of DC games are at their best in two player mode...not this one. Hydro Thunder is a game you can play by yourself and have the most fun. In two player mode, the boats move too slow...it gets annoying. But if you intend on playing this by yourself, buy it. It'll entertain you for hours.

The game does get a little bit frustrating at times, but then again the point of video games is to provide a challenge. When you get to the point of throwing the controller, it's best to turn this game off. Once you're frustrated, your playing in this game only gets worse. Keep calm and you'll do fine. Here's a hint...if you want to beat the game, you pretty much HAVE to find all the short cuts and secrets.

Good game, check it out if you're going to play it by yourself a lot.

A Great Game Turned into a Rushed Product

This is a potentially great game that was really anticipated for the release on dreamcast. When I heard of this game, I was filled with joy and expectations that this game would exceed the arcade quality. WRONG! The only difference I found was that there was a useless 2-player mode that only goes head-to-head. There was no 2-player championship mode and not single practice run option. The lack of options and mode generally hampered the quality of this game badly. Here's the drill: you buy it, you race championship mode, and probably one or two runs with your friend and that's that. Another thing I griped about was that the championship mode was EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. There was no options for changing difficulty, thus I got extremely [frustrated] at the virtaul impossibility of beating it and then I stopped playing it before I beat the whole thing. Last thing I griped about was the loading time of this game. It was horrible! Each track took about 40 seconds to load, and I really got angry at it. If it wasn't for the game's great technological graphic, I would've given this game a minus number of stars (probably -2). It's a great rental, but buying it is a grave mistake since there is no lasting appeal to it. Conclusion: it was supposed to be a great game, but Midway turned it into a rushed product that needed a lot more options and a lot more work.

Except for having to start over at the beginning menu each and every time at the end of a race, I really love this game. The graphics are spectacular, the boats are all different and handle differently. Easily addictive.

I don't know much about gaming, but this is a great game. Graphics, sounds, controls. The courses start out easy, and then gradually get harder. However, I think I like the "Bonus Tracks" better than the Hard ones. The hard ones are hard! It's great for adults and kids. My 6 year old son has a great time and can, sometimes, beat me.
Either way, it's fun for both of us!

This is the best racer I've played in a long time. I have Tokyo Extreme and Flag to Flag and Hydro Thunder is the hands down winner in the racing genre. Great graphics, and fun, addictive gameplay. I've picked up many games since Hyrdro Thunder but it's still the game getting the most of my playing time. Only knock against it is the menu screens which are pretty bland and boring.

i got this game because it was so great in the arcade. it is translated to the dreamcast beautifully, this game is excellent there are hidden passages which speed it up. it is realistic this game is downright awsome. i totally recommend it.
