Great game, but rent, don't buy

Well, I bought this game mainly because I was bored and because I needed some new games to try out my new surround sound system. I didn't really know much about the game ahead of time so I definitely did not buy it because of the 'hype'. Killing people seemed like a fun thing to do.

But there are a couple of problems with this game. One is that the game play gets repetitive and boring very quickly. The graphics are AMAZING and a couple of things (like sword fighting and horseback riding) really stand out, but the missions get repetitive and boring. The only thing that kept me playing the game was the story line (which I think is great) so I kept playing to find out how it ends.

I've also experienced occasional freezes in the game (about 2 or 3 total) which was a bit annoying. I was really disappointed by the end. Don't get me wrong, to story ends with a great twist and all, but then they managed to ruin the ending at the last moment as far as I'm concerned (maybe you like endings that leave OBVIOUS room for a sequel, but I like them to be a bit more subtle).

All in all I still think it deserves 5 starts due to the amazing graphics, game play and story. But it could get repetitive so you might want to consider renting it.

The Wikipedia review (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassin's_Creed) covers most everything about the game (spoiler alert though). Personally though, I think this game was worth renting. It has weaknesses, such as being kind of repetitive, but the story is interesting, and the graphics are undeniably magnificent. All in all, like Call of Duty or FFXIII, this is one of those games that as a PS3 owner, you'll need to have played.

Could have been great, but needed more time in development. It's core gameplay is awesome, but fighting is awful, and the side missions are stupid and boring. Rent only.

The game is a lot of fun at the beginning the platforming is superb, until it gets repetitive. And it does!!
And i dont mean "youll just be doing assasinations" because thats what youre supposed to do. What i mean is:
The way the game is structured is just so tedious!! The whole game is just doing the same missions over and over on different cities, pickpocket, eavesdrop, kill.
Add some crashes and framerate issues and you got yourself a mediocre rushed game.

A 6.5 Overall in my opinion...

I love this game. Not only is it just straight up fun to play but it is by far the best graphics I have ever seen! Just like watching a movie.

Could've been so much more..

Bottom line.. Great visuals, animation, combat system etc. but the game gets annoyingly repetitive after a while. You're basically doing the same thing over 9 times. After a while I only played the game just to complete it. Certainly did not live up to the hype imho..

Great gift for older teen

Great gift for older teen. I do not play the video games, but this was high on the request list of a 17 year old male. It did not disappoint. It was one of his favorite gifts. It is listed for mature, however, so for younger teens the violence may be too graphic. Use your discretion.

This game is well thought-out in gameplay and continuity. If you don't care about any of the plot whatsoever, you will not enjoy sitting through the short (~1min) speeches at major points in the game. However, they're not too bad even if your sole purpose is to blast through it as quickly as possible.

This game can be alot of work but its worth it. Long adventures and sometimes you find yourself injuring innocent people since you have such long distances to travel. This is a very creative games and I look forward to more episodes of this game. It rates a very high score for quality, sounds, theme, battle sequence and concept of design.

A nice change away from games with guns but is also a darker game with of course requires assassinations.

Advice: Rent before buying

First off, the graphics on Assassin's Creed are absolutely stunning and arguably the best on a video game console thus far. The gameplay is top notch. And is the concept innovative? Absolutely. The problem I had with the game (and I did finish it) is that after the first four or five "missions", it gets mind numbingly repetitive. I found it difficult to keep playing for more than an hour at a time. The developers could have taken this game much further with a little variety. You basically perform the same tasks over and over and over and.......well you get the point. This is just one gamer's opinion and this game has won "game of the year" honors in several video game magazines and has received several five star reviews here. So with that said, I'd rent this game to check it out before dropping sixty bucks. I don't think this game is for everyone.
