its good, its got some problems, but I think it's worth the money.

First off, its beautiful. Even the little knobs sticking out of walls that you grab to climb up look cool. The sword fighting, the moves and camera work etc. look cool. Altair (your character) looks cool. Getting to the point, every detail seems to incorporate the rules of design (rhythm, motion, scale, harmony, balance, tension, etc.) sorry- art major speaking.

The Good: It looks good, we know that, but the gameplay is innovative and fun. There's a button for the legs, a button for each hand, and one for the head. I rarely feel like I have to reach or move the controller in some odd way to do something quickly- except for weapon switching, which we'll get to in the bad. Combo's are easy to pull off and always look awesome. Kills are also immensely satisfying. The blade goes through them and comes out covered in blood, not to mention the sound effects. The cities are vast and interesting to navigate. You'll find yourself constantly wondering "street or rooftops, how to get back up, where are the hide spots, were are the helpers, how do I escape..."and so on. the AI provides a few original and interesting aspects. Streets are literally packed with NPCs and its your job to sort pick out the troublemakers, navigate them. I've had to not-so-stealthily kill more than a few beggars and drunks. All of this incorporates into the assassinations, and that's the real key of the game.

the bad: This game made the same mistake (though not nearly as badly) as Shadow of Colossus. It gives you a great big beautiful world with some really fun missions and nothing in between. There are missions in-between assassinations, but they're all pretty much the same thing. Scale the tower, stealthily kill some guards, pickpockets, eavesdrop and fight without your plethora of pointy things. Where's the busty barkeep needing someone to usher her landlord off the mortal coil? Where's the guy who wants that exceptionally fast horse that some exceptionally tough knight happens to own? Glitches are also a problem- Though not to the point that they make you not want to play anymore. Sometimes you get stuck between things. It usually spits you back out though. I had one assassination where I couldn't hide because the pile of hay or whatever wouldn't let me out. Godness (not goodness) slaughtering a whole battalion of gaurds is nothing. Slaughtering a city full is time consuming. The enemies get some new abilities, but for the most part- R1 - square and you perform some sweet looking critical damage. weapon switching!!! grr!! all your weapons are on the directional buttons- a minor pain to get to in a pinch- yet the L1, L2, L3 and R3 go unused! gah!

Overall I liked this game a lot. Did it live up to the hype? Missed it by this ()much. Replay is kind of nil once you know what the story is. Unless, perhaps, you're a bit OCD and must get 100% completion at all costs. is it worth the money? yeah, I think it is, and I paid the $60 for it new. Why would anyone keep it around with so little replay value? Use it to show off your new HDTV and stuff, of course! With all the visual awesomeness and sound effects, Altair will absolutely slay your neighbors! heeheehee! sorry.

OMG this game is so good.

Freezes on the PS3 format

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 3 / 5

This is a great game, however it comes from a terrible company. I say terrible because they apparently did not even test game through on the PS3 format before releasing it. This game freezes, glitches, locks up your system untill you have to manually cut off the power before getting it up again, and it is not just my experience, go to the ubisoft boards and see the 79 - yes i said 79 page thread on the forums about freezing problems under the assassins creed section. Refund? Nope. Will the store give you a refund? Nope. Since when have you been able to return opened media?

DONT BUY THIS GAME FOR THE PS3. I promise you will be as angry as I am. It is an awesome game, but it is unplayable on this system.

Amazing game

nothing but positive feedback for this game, buy it, cause it's great. and if you have any problems with it freezing, just make sure you have the latest version installed, as im sure the system, before you start the game, will tell you to do so.

Quality Graphics but Repetitive Game Play

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 3

I will try to be as honest as I can and give you the games that I play so that you can understand my point of view. First of all, I own the PS3 and Xbox 360. Among my favorite titles is Fight Night: Round 3 (360), Gears of War, Halo 1/2/3, Rainbow Six (360), Resistance: Fall of Man and Call of Duty 4 (PS3) and Crack Down. I love shooter games but excellent graphics with parallel sound effects make the game worth the money in my opinion. Game play has to be challenging in order for me to really like a game.
Now my review on Assassin's creed; I will give it 7 out of 10. The game play itself is a lot different then what I initially thought. Warping thru time to hunt a cure for present day chaos by means of time travel was a cool approach. This in terms places the Assassin in the past stage of events.
One thing that is not so clear is the actual target of the game; where is this game really taking me? You are sent out on a quest to assassinate, eaves drop, pick pocket and interrogate people on a repetitive basis but your are left clueless as to why you are doing this unless you actually listen diligently to the game voice or review the objectives from the menu. So I would advise you to really read up on this game before playing or you will be disappointed.
The graphics are very impressive for showing you that particular age in time but is not colorful by any means. Even when you are in present day the graphics' remain the same and unchanged throughout the entire game play for that matter. I think they should have giving us a more colorful experience between the modern day interludes and actual game play; separate the time zones. The details are equally impressive if not better.
The game play to me is so repetitive that I can only play this game for an hour maximum. No matter what stage you are on you will do the same chain of events to get to the next objective. They should have given us more or implemented a variety of changes for different objectives. Running around, hunting people down by doing the same thing that you just did on a prior level gets old real quick.
Sounds effects in the game are basic but realistic. You need a surround sound system to really appreciate the quality of sound in this game. Just because you have a HDTV will not do. I have a 7.1 Surround System so I can tell you that it's a must.
Now there are some cool features in the game but not enough to make you happy if you are really into all that I stated above. Remember you are not paying $30, $40, or even $50 a game any more. We are talking about $59.99 plus tax, round that off to $63.00 bucks. I would suggest renting, barrowing or getting a bargain on this game. I do not think it is worth $63.00 at all. I'm have not even finish the game but considered selling it to get Uncharted: Drakes Fortune instead; PS3 Demo of this game is great!

If this isn't next gen im not sure what to look for!? Graphics top notch i believe some of the people that review this game are simply fps addicts ...Which don't get me wrong i love Fps but this takes a different approach to gaming in the same way drake uncharted did...Its nice to have something new ..Im about a game making me think and this game will do that....just buy it its a nice game!!!

This game is really a 3.5 out of 5... maybe 3

It's hard for me to rate this game. lots of likes, and lots of dislikes.. I'm confused.

Likes:
-Graphics
-Ability to climb anything and complete ability to interact with any building.
-Helping out the people in the hood, so they'd help you out when you escape through their hood.
-Stabbing people from behind.

Dislikes:
-"A" bug ... meaning.. the games awesome ways of freezing up and preventing you from playing the game... meaning.. you'll have to restart your PS3. ERRRRRRRRRR!!!!
- Missions are repetitive.
- Voice overs are lame and generic.

So there you go... a very very confusing review.. well to me at least because even though i experience a good time... i still feel like it doesn't belong to stay in my collection.

Do I have to do it again?

This game FULLY lives up to the hype! The graphics are fantastic, the game play is phenomenal, and even the storyline is awesome...

BUT...

...You have to basically do the same thing over and over and over and over again at each mission. And you only learn a little more than you knew before after each mission.

I've had the game for a few months now, and the first few weeks were great and I thought I had gotten pretty far, but, at this point, I have basically given up out of sheer boredom.

It's just so hard to give this game a bad rating though, because it's so good otherwise... so I just took off one star for overall and two stars off of the fun rating. Buy it if you want... but be warned!

Great Concept, Mediocre Game

The concept of this game was brilliant, unfortunately the game itself is repetitive and suffers from very boring (vanilla) controls and poor camera angles. It's also a very close ended game (not open ended).

I was hopping for a game between Theif Dark Project and Oblivion. I got neither. I also beat it in a week with little effort so it's not terribly long either.

Amazingly boring but great graphics

This game became so boring, I returned it when I was just 2 missions away from completing the entire game.

This game is fun for the first few missions. Then you realize very quickly that each missing is EXACTLY the same as the last. The game quickly loses it's edge when this happens.

For instance, after winning the first missing, I went out on the second mission. The city and the mission were so much alike, I thought I caught a glich in the game where it didn't save my first mission correctly and I was having to redo the mission all over again.

Here is every mission for the entire game:

Set out to kill some head guy. In order to get to the head guy, you must first find who he is by going to an Assassin hideout in the middle of the city. Every city looks exactly the same. Every Assassin hideout does too. Then, you set out in the city and climb very tall towers to get a "birds eye view" of certain parts of the city. This in turn puts different sub missions on your map. The sub missions consist of pick pocketing someone, following one of the cities speakers and beating information out of him or finding another assassin and completing their tasks for them. This gives you information on where to find the head guy. Then you find the head guy, kill him and start another mission that is EXACTLY the same thing. At the end of each mission, you wind up in a tower to talk to your boss, then you leave the tower and run through the same city, to jump on a horse, to ride to another city, to do in another head guy in the exact same manner as before. This gets insanely tedious and boring. Especially the horse riding. It was cool the first 2 times you do it, then it's boring because all you're doing is riding a horse... no sub missions on the horse or anything like that.

The game progressively gets a tad bit harder by simply adding more and more men you must fight each time you're cover is blown. This gets very annoying because the men themselves don't get harder to fight. Just more of them come at you. Plus the actual fighting moves are always the same.

ALSO, what is super annoying is that you can not cut through the long talks that he has when he happens to save a resident from thugs, or when he meets another assassin , when he talks to a head guy he kills, etc... You have to sit through all of this. This is lame and forces the game to drag on and on...

Other games like Heavenly Sword got it right. Heavenly Sword may be shorter, but each mission was as different as possible and each setting was COMPLETELY different. Every darn city in this game is exactly the same, just a few different buildings... and the fact that every mission requires the EXACT same sequence of events in order to win just makes this game amazingly dull after just the 1st mission.
