Even worse than the original

The graphics in this game is the ONLY thing in it that's better than the original. Everything else is somehow worse.
The biggest problem with this game is that it forces you to complete an entire multiple stage mission without being able to save after any part of it. I completed the first part of mission #1 and was unable to save after this stage which should have been a save checkpoint. Once I completed this part, I promptly got shot in the head on the (harder) second part of mission #1 and was forced to try the entire mission over.
The aming with any of the guns is absolutely horrible as well. The orders you can give to your teammates is restricted to covering fire, taking point, throwing grenades or coming back to your position. Your team also won't engage any enemy they see on their own either without you firing or directing them to provide covering fire.
Ordinarily, an enhanced enemy AI would be a good thing, but even during the first mission, the enhanced AI is a disaster. I have yet to have been wounded, I simply get shot in the head and die immediately. I'm not getting close to the enemy either and am prone on the ground behind foliage, yet I get shot in the head during a firefight every time. This doesn't make any sense.
Also, what made the original Ghost Recon unique has been taken out of this game. You are one character in the game, you cannot switch to different soldiers on your team like in the previous GR PC and PS2 games.
Save your money! I'd only buy this game if it was severely discounted.
Do NOT buy this game

I enjoyed the first Ghost Recon and all of it's expansion packs, this game was no Ghost Recon.
It is like a shooter game from out of the 1980's with updated graphics. The AI is not only a huge step backward it completely ruins the game. The enemy spawns out of thin air into the middle of the street with their guns drawn, pointed right at you, and begin shooting directly at you. Sure that would make sense if you are plainly viseable in the middle of the street also, but these guys begin shooting at you if you are literally behind a MOUNTAIN in the dark and under cover. No matter if you are in a building or even behind a building they materialize into position and begin blasting with infinite ammo. No matter if they can't possibly hit you or see you or hear you. They have an infinite amount of ammo and even the handguns are accurate several hundred yards away. More annoying is the fact that they will continue to shoot directly at you even when they can't possibly see you (e.g. you are on the other side of a building) but they will follow along as you crawl along behind the building and still be shooting directly at you as you peak out from the other side of a building. It seems that not only do they have the power to materialize out of thin air with guns drawn and pointed at you, not only do they have unlimmited ammo, they have super X-ray night vision that can see through buildings and MOUNTAINS.
This isn't such a bad game if you only think of it as an arcade style shooter from 20 or 30 years ago, but it isn't worth paying money for. Just wait till a few days after Christmas and I'm sure you'll find a copy sitting in somebody's trash can you can get for free.
Waste of time and money.

I thought about telling everyone that this game is great just so they would go out and waste thier money like I did.
Im sure you are all aware that the reason this game sucks so bad is because they forced it out so they could get it out before christmas so they could make a lot of money. First of all some of the graphics in this game look like paper mario. The videos are good but the actual game play sucks. I have played about five missions and havnt seen the XM8 yet. Not only have I not seen that weapon you only get about four different weapons to choose from. The fact that when I shoot a silenced pistol and everyone starts shooting at me is retarded. I hate the fact that I get 15 minutes into a mission and something stupid happens and I die and I have to replay the same mission 50,000 times. How about if you have a close quarters gun like an mp5 and your 2 feet from a guy and you hold down the fire button you wont even hit them once. I hate how if you want to change your stance he has to take a dump on the ground before he does it. He also runs like he has a you know what up his you know where. He runs so slow I think when im running i see a sloth walk past me. This game is worse then the new Medal of Honor game! Why is online not 3rd person? The list of how bad this game is goes on forever but im not about to waste any more of my time at this games expense, its not worth it dont buy it.
A Real Review

The reviewers for the ps2 version of ghost recon two arent really seem like they have no knowledge of games at all. They exaggerated every con in the game, and left out every pro. IF YOU WANT A REAL REVIEW, READ THIS. Most websites are usually biased for xbox. I think it is quite odd when I see Ghost Recon 2 for xbox get an 8.8, and ps2 get a 6.6, I tried them and they both look, and play the same to me. If you see a low score for this game on ps2, you should question its legitimacy.
Now for the review...
Ghost Recon 2 poses an interesting story about a war sparking with the US, and North Korea. The Ghosts are sent in to investigate and to take out any threats. It could have a better story, but this is good enough to make an exciting game. The game gets annoying at times when you have to restart mission because you got killed, sometimes theres some trial and error in it. The Graphics are way, way better than the reviewers say they are. The characters and enemies are in very good detail. Better than the smeared faces and mish-mashed graphics of jungle storm. I played this game with an open mind, (like I usually do with games, instead of finding every last flaw like websites and certain reviewers on amazon) and found it fun, but not as fun as MGS3, or KillZone, or Socom II. There are some pretty intense firefights in levels sometimes, you need to direct your team to throw grenades, provide cover fire, or move in on them to win these battles, or you'll get wasted.
Run and gun does not work well, you need to take cover, and move from cover to cover to survive. The game is like Socom a lot. The graphics are good, the gameplay is fun and if you like Socom I or II, you gotta check it out. You really feel like special forces at times, sneaking in on them, and getting past the enemy with ease. I shall end this review with pros and cons
Cons
-The AI could be better, but hey, the game is still kick ass.
-The game doesn't suck you into the battle as much as Socom 2, or Killzone.
-The bullet affects are choppy at times, but it doesnt destroy the game.
Pros
-The ragdoll physics are perfect, no twisting body parts, and no flipping around from a gunshot like in Shell Shock.
-The gameplay is fun, and it can get pretty intense sometimes
-The sound and music is great, one of the best I've seen for a game lately
-You really feel like special forces when your fighting an enemy sometimes
I conclude that this game is worth being on your wish list for the holidays. If youve never played or really got into Military games like Socom, KillZone, or MGS3, you should rent it. Even rent it if you like those kind of games just to be sure. Thanks for reading my review, and Happy Holidays! :)

This game is a waste of money and time , i was so upset when i fist tried this game i was excpecting a much more realistic gameplay expirience like the first ghost recon , the grafics are quiet impresive though but no more fear no more tactical gameplay like in gr 1 , you cannot use stealth to try to get as close as posible tothe enemy no matter how quiet you try be be , there is nothing realistic about it at all ,you cannot switch between soldiers, you can take like 8 shots before you are death , the enemy death animations are just ridiculous , no blood in the game , when you try to crouch or prone position it happens so slow ,if you liked the first ghost recon dont get this game thrust me .
Plain fun

Instead of improving on the original Ghost Recon formula, Ubisoft made a lot of gameplay changes that make the game seem different.
Changes:
1) More exciting firefights. Enemy troops shoot more frequetly and accurately than before.
2) Smaller map. Map is not as open as before making the game look quite linear and cramped...
3) Gameplay became very similar to Rainbow Six 3. Not much strategy... just shoot shoot and shoot!
4) Better graphics but still poor detailing compared to other
games like Kill Zone, MGS 3, R6 3.
My personal opinion, R6 3 is a better game than GR2. The gameplay is quite the same but R6 has better graphics and the map style is more suitable for close quarters combat. The orig GR features large maps and open firefights like a real war. All this is gone and I don't feel like it's a war. It's just your squad agains the whole North Korean Army. The best FPS with a war setting for the PS2 that I've played is Call of Duty where you have countless enemies and also a lot of friends running around the battlefield.
Not the same Ghost Recon anymore

My family and I were HUGE fans of the first two Ghost recon games. We particularly enjoyed the offline, multi-player ability that let two people in the same room play a multitude of missions and scenarios. We literally spent hundreds of hours playing this game, and never got bored.
Ghost Recon 2 is such a departure from the originals that I'm surprised they kept the name. Here is a list of major disappointments for us:
1. Previous GR games had the best, most comprehensive multiplayer options I have EVER seen in a video game. But not anymore. There is no more offline multiplayer. If you have the older PS2, or can't afford online gaming, you are screwed.
2. With previous Ghost Recon games, you had unlimited freedom of movement throughout the map/battle area. GR2 is now just another game like Medal of Honor..funneling you down the paths and places that the game wants you to go. *yawn*
3. The weapons menu is too cumbersome. With the older version, you pushed a single button and extra weapons were immediately available.
4. The sound effects and voice overs from your squad mates are laughable. Its obvious that whomever created the original GR wanted to make a more realistic game.
The only reason I am giving this game 2 stars is because of the handy "peek" feature, as well as the ability to have squad mates throw hand grenades for you. My recommendation, however, is not to buy this game.

this game is pretty good, not the best. The online play is what stands out. Its really fun compared to all hte games i have (i dont have socom or killzone). The only bad thing is that the framerate gets choppy sometimes, and there are rather long load times. Single player is pretty good, AI is kinda dumb though
