wow. this game is awful. i rented it to compare it to the xbox version. ooh. that wasn't a good idea. the graphics are nowhere as good, the gameplay is terrible. ps2 got gyped on the online play as well. no co-op. i don't know if either ubisoft is just lazy, or don't know how to utilize the ps2 hardware. i'd stay away from this game. i recommend ghost recon jungle storm. it's more fun & better online.

Unnecessarily Difficult

I LOVED the original Ghost Recon and Jungle Storm for the PS2. That said, this is nothing like those. The very essence of team play here is overridden by the insane difficulty of simple tasks like team commands, or switching to grenades (or zooming, on the PS2). In the first mission, which would have been simple for a sniper and demolitions expert from the original game, becomes an impossible challenge of patience in GR2 because of the terrible zoom/aim combined with illustrious-but-always-in-the-way graphics. Even a first-person view option would have helped substantially, as would being allowed to select your gun (the default you start with runs out of bullets every time you pull the trigger, and takes forever to reload while the enemy kills you), but sadly neither option exists.

The game concepts, like being able to pick up enemy's weapons, are far cooler ideas than realities. Coupled with the loss of multiplayer ability (you can play against the 12-year-old hackers online, but you can't have friends over for a game), this is a huge step back in the Ghost Recon world. Gameplay reminds me of the original Playstation, and while the graphics are gorgeous, they cannot alone make a game.

Bottom line: don't buy this game. Rainbow 6, for all of its ineptitude, is a better choice, or stick to the first two Ghost Recon titles. And if you absolutely must see this suck for yourself, save $50 and rent it from Blockbuster.

Great game

One of the best shooter games of all times. Equal to if not better then SOCOM. Plus you can save as you go if your smart enough to figure out how to pause and save. Worth the $29. If you think your good, like I did, play online and get schooled.

The gameplay changed for better or worse.

Instead of improving on the original Ghost Recon formula, Ubisoft made a lot of gameplay changes that make the game seem different.

Changes:
1) More exciting firefights. Enemy troops shoot more frequetly and accurately than before.
2) Smaller map. Map is not as open as before making the game look quite linear and cramped...
3) Gameplay became very similar to Rainbow Six 3. Not much strategy... just shoot shoot and shoot!
4) Better graphics but still poor detailing compared to other
games like Kill Zone, MGS 3, R6 3.

My personal opinion, R6 3 is a better game than GR2. The gameplay is quite the same but R6 has better graphics and the map style is more suitable for close quarters combat. The orig GR features large maps and open firefights like a real war. All this is gone and I don't feel like it's a war. It's just your squad agains the whole North Korean Army. The best FPS with a war setting for the PS2 that I've played is Call of Duty where you have countless enemies and also a lot of friends running around the battlefield.

okokokokok it wasn't that good

All right GR2 wasn't the best game but don't let thoes whiny teenagers sway your opion. see the game gets kind of hard durring the lone wolf missions. but GR2 does have its good parts. theres an all new 3rd person mode and the graphics have improved imensly. you can order your men and/or weman the sieas fire, attack, even through graneds! I think its a really good game. the cons are big in size but don't happen very many times throught the game. theres no more swiching characters but everything eles makes up for that. theres a new adoped RB63 fireing way. you hold a button down and pick your wepon or firing choise/troop movement. but don't let that dissapoint you its accualy easer to use. so durring the heat of battle you can easily swich from you SAW to graneds with the touch of a button. all i'm saying is this game is an awsome game i say buy it if you want it

Not the same Ghost Recon anymore

My family and I were HUGE fans of the first two Ghost recon games. We particularly enjoyed the offline, multi-player ability that let two people in the same room play a multitude of missions and scenarios. We literally spent hundreds of hours playing this game, and never got bored.
Ghost Recon 2 is such a departure from the originals that I'm surprised they kept the name. Here is a list of major disappointments for us:
1. Previous GR games had the best, most comprehensive multiplayer options I have EVER seen in a video game. But not anymore. There is no more offline multiplayer. If you have the older PS2, or can't afford online gaming, you are screwed.
2. With previous Ghost Recon games, you had unlimited freedom of movement throughout the map/battle area. GR2 is now just another game like Medal of Honor..funneling you down the paths and places that the game wants you to go. *yawn*
3. The weapons menu is too cumbersome. With the older version, you pushed a single button and extra weapons were immediately available.
4. The sound effects and voice overs from your squad mates are laughable. Its obvious that whomever created the original GR wanted to make a more realistic game.
The only reason I am giving this game 2 stars is because of the handy "peek" feature, as well as the ability to have squad mates throw hand grenades for you. My recommendation, however, is not to buy this game.

XBOX version is the ONLY version!!!

I'm shocked reading these posts of people saying how terible GR2 is...Sure the single player missions are boring but most people buy this game to play online which by far is one of the best online game out there. 10X better than Gaylo, and for the people who disagree that it's not fun to play it online let me ask you this. Why is it always within the top 4 games played on XBOX Live?
My suggestion is to really only get this game to play on XBOX LIVE. You won't find a better game out there right now.

The only reason I give 4 stars is because I hate the stupid frick'n lag, & the Red X..Any GR2 player knows what I'm talking about...Ubisoft needs to fix thier server problems.

So everyone who says the game sucks, play it online a few times then write a review. I bet your revised review will be a lot diffrent.

Oh and one more rant... Sure GR2 is gonna suck if you play it on PS2 because PS2 is garbage compared to XBOX. I've not played the lame PS2 version because I feel everyone should wake up and dump their poopy PS2. Buy an XBOX...

Don't know?

I got this game but i haven't played it yet. I'm on vacation but I don't have my ps2. I read some of the reviews and some were good but the ones that weren't good worry me. I hope I'll like it. If i don't well i don't know. It may look cool but it might not be cool to play. I got it for only $20 so if it's not good I'll try online. Some people say online is awsome. Anyway I have to wait to play.

Too Hard

This game (...). Its very hard and the camera angles are annoying. I got to the 3rd level and then i gave up. The missions are long and you cant save. Even if you liked Ghost Recon, Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm or any other Tom Clancy game dont get this.

ghost recon fans////.......stay away from this game!

This game is a waste of money and time , i was so upset when i fist tried this game i was excpecting a much more realistic gameplay expirience like the first ghost recon , the grafics are quiet impresive though but no more fear no more tactical gameplay like in gr 1 , you cannot use stealth to try to get as close as posible tothe enemy no matter how quiet you try be be , there is nothing realistic about it at all ,you cannot switch between soldiers, you can take like 8 shots before you are death , the enemy death animations are just ridiculous , no blood in the game , when you try to crouch or prone position it happens so slow ,if you liked the first ghost recon dont get this game thrust me .
