The tenkaichi title, a continuation from DBZ:Budokai 3, is definitely not an improvement. The only plus of the game is they transferred it into a 3-d landscape, and got rid of the lame capsule feature to some extent. However, the 3-d environments are small, and frustrating to navigate due to poor play control. The graphics is ok for the most part, but the superattacks are totally lame looking and sound pathetic. Budokai 3 was awesome due to the overly dramatic super attacks and cool cinematic fight scenes when you engaged the enemy at times, but tenkaichi has none of that. The dynamics of the game are too simple and play control is frustrating...whoever can mash buttons the fastest usually wins. They also got rid of the transformations. So, you can't transform from goku to SS4. The game itself is rather repetitve, punch the enemy, knock them back, then repeat...boring. Also, they have failed to enter a widescreen feature, a 480i image, or prologic sound. It seems to me the company atari hired was rushed to put this title out the door, and they should have sticked w/Dimps again instead of trying another company.
its ok

If your somewhat fimilar to the budokai series, well your not missing much. The game is a great game, but it still has its flaws. Everything to the music to the game screen seems all to fimilar. You will still have all your classic game modes and more. The big thing about this game is the freeroaming ability which adds more heart-bounding experience. The graphics are basically the same as the other budokai games out there. Also you have 60-characters to choose from..but theres a big draw back. You can start as goku but you cant change into super sayian 1,2,3 etc. Instead you can choose from 5 different goku's that are all different super sayian levels/stage, this is for all characters also. Plus it still doesn't have online yet.But theres so much to unlock and you will be spending countless hours unlocking stuff. i rented it instead and im glad. If I were you i would rent it first or wait intell it drops in price, unless your a die-hard dragonball z fan go out and get it, if you must. thanks for listening to my review.
Thankfully more characters

Admittidly I haven't played this game yet. I plan on getting it for Christmas. I have however read the strategy guide and found out most of the new characters in the game. No one has written a review talking about the added characters so here they are.
Chiatsu* "Finally"
Master Roshi*
General Taio*
Burter*
Guldo*
Jeice* "Finally all the ginyu force"
Metal Frieza*
Sayain ape*
Andriod 19* "Wasn't in budakia 2 or 3"
Zarbon* "Wasn't in 2 or 3
Dodoria* "Wasn't in 2 or 3"
Evil Boo* "The gray one"
Babby Vegeta* "From GT"
Super android 17* "From GT"
Bojack* "?"
Some purple and red guy* "?"
They got rid of these guys
Supreme Kai
Omega Shenron
Uub
Regular Broly
Regular Cooler and Metal Cooler
I was hoping that they would add Uub from the GT, but the other additions are worth it. I don't know about the custum create. No one has wriiten a review talking about that. The no transformations sounds weird, but I'll get the game just like I did the other 3. I will write another review after I get the game.
I WAS THE MAN WHO SAID THIS GAME WAS WICKED AWESOME

IT IS MUCH MORE EASIER 2 DO ENERGY BURST THEN BUDOKAI 3 BECAUSE IN BUDOKAI 3 IT HAS 2 BE THE EXACT SAME TIME
some battles are too hard even at the "easy" level

yes this is a good game but I don't think this game has been fully tested. some characters are way too difficult to beat, just like that stupid giant ape (oozaru or something). i wish whoever thought of making those levels too hard were never born!!! but i must say this is the best dbz game out there. I have completed all the z battle gates at the easy level but I don't think I can beat that stupid ape at the normal level! Grrr!!!
Better then they say!

You read that most people say that the game is insanely difficult or that the controls aren't that good, but I'm here to tell you that this isn't so.
This game is a challenge, and the bosses that you face really are as difficult as the characters in the show find them to be, that's why people have problems. Do you think that fighting Vegeta is going to be easy? If you do, you don't know the prince very well.
The controls are difficult at first, granted. But if you go through the tutorial fully and read, it's not so bad. The thing you have to remember is that your opponent is your focus when it comes to the controls. Left is left around your opponent, back is away, forward is towards. If you want to raise your energy just enough to do an attack, hold down the button for it while your charging.
Whenever I charge into a battle, I use my resources to the best. I've had fights where I fought for 60sec, hand-to-hand, trading blows like the show but never scoring a hit with some crazy close calls or even spent time hiding behind a rock sending ki towards the opponent after using solar flare. Sound like the show?
Once you learn to play like the computer on the hardest difficulty, the game looks EXACTLY like the show, and battles with friends can be just as epic. This game is not for the light at heart. It takes time, patients, and a lot of practise before you become good, unlike the rest of the games. It requires a video game master to be good. If you're up for the challenge, this is the game for you. If your not, don't even bother considering this game.
All-in-all, the controls aren't as bad as people say. Just play against a master of this game and you'll see.

This is for atari. maybe he start to listen to the fans. first thing is first make the bad ending of the dbgt well again. dbgt is not so good as dbz. that may be so because there where different makers working with eachother. well the dbgt has no spirit in the serie. start whit a new hard breaking db serie.now lets talk about the game dbz budokai tenkaichi. there is no transformation in the game. have you lost your marvels. dbz is all about martialarts en that means its all about getting better, getting stronger, the hunger for superior bean. if you can't transform any more that means there is no spirit anymore.
This is how the ultimate db,dbz, dbgt must look like:
+ Transformatiom 100 %
+ All most all the characters
+ Very large areas
+ Gets faster when you become stronger
+ The story continues
+ Make your own characters / just like the player of the game
Lame.

I can't tell you how excited I was to hear that there would be a new Dragon Ball Z game for the PS2! For months I waited and then finally it was released. My girlfriend bought me this for my birthday (a mistake because I ALWAYS rent games first before buying). There's a good reason for this. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi is mediocre at best. The control system is horrible and anyone who loved the old control system is going to be VERY disappointed. I could go on and on about my disappointment in this game but I won't. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi is going to sit in my cabinet collecting dust while I play the only truly awesome DBZ game...Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3!! At least I have that!

This new DBZ title is the best one by far. Listen here people, don't listen to all the wimpy cry baby's saying this game sucks, because they don't know games if they said it sucked. I mean if you played Budokai 1-2-3 theres a great diffrence. If your a DBZ fan you'll enjoy this game, or even if you just love video games, you'll like thsi game as well!
Good features & Bad (There isn't really anything bad about it)
-Flying: Yes thats right people the feature you've been craving for in a DBZ game FLYING!! flying a very important key in the game, with it you feel like your really in a DBZ battle straight from the show. you can shoot up in the air fly down, shoot around, pretty much any thing. its great
-Graphics: Best Graphics in a DBZ game they look just like the show's characters, very good graphics.
-Controll: some people hate it, i don't see why the complain. yes the controlls have changed, but it almost seem's easier! you get used to tehm quickly so don't worry! Trust me its not hard at all!
-Story: Huge story a lot of diffrent modes! World Tornoment, Z Batlle Gate also is a huge story mode, not just the sagas like Buu and Cell, but also Bojack, Broly, Super Android 17, Gogeta, and BABY!!! baby thats right. Pretty much every character in teh DBZ-DBGT-DB is in it!!
-Fighting ZONE: Its almost like a free roaming fighting arena! u can fly like a million miles away from your opponent to power ap a special movie and....oh man its just awsome i wanna go and play it now!
Overall its like the BEST GAME EVER if ur a DBZ fan, and if ur not. BUY THIS GAMEE!!!!
