Should of read reviews first

We should of read the reviews before buying this game. On the surface the bundle pack looked promising: two mics with the game. However we were disappointed that the game is nothing like a karaoke experience.

The major let-downs include:
**Mics not compatible with the karaoke series**
Hard to improve singing, the videos distract from following the pitch level
Cannot mute the lead singer's voice
Hard to hear your own voice, the song drowns out anything from the mic.

Small cool-feature: able to play-back your voice recording. But you still have to hear it over the song and lead singer.

The interface is easy-enough to follow. We started a battle without any problems.

The song track is OK. Enough to not get bored.

We are embarrassed to be duped by the marketing, next time we will do the research first!

I just purchased this game and I am very disappointed.
I thought this was supposed to be a karaoke game but the original artist voices cannot be muted!
This defeats the whole purpose of the game!

This Game Sucks Compared to Karaoke Revolution

I got this game after purchasing a PS3, thinking that even if this game wasn't all that great, I could use the two microphones (which came with a USB adaptor) for Karaoke Revolution games. I was wrong. Because the microphones are not actual USB mics and have to plug into a USB adaptor, Karaoke Revolution games do not detect these "SingStar" mics.
Secondly, SingStar does not give you the option to remove the lead vocals from the songs. This defeats the whole purpose of Karaoke. Even on Karaoke mode, the lead vocals are still there.
Lastly, The game has a very small selection of songs, and there are a handful of tracks that are "medleys", which are basically a medley from choruses of the same songs that are already on this game.
Conclusion. This is NOT a Karaoke game, as it does not give you the option to strip the lead vocals, and the microphones included with the game are not compatible with any other games for the PS2 or PS3. If I was given the option, I would give this game ZERO stars.

Waste of money

Unless you listen to a lot of rock this game may be fun... THE MICS DO NOT WORK FOR ANY OTHER PS2 KARAOKE GAME!!! Karaoke revolution is a lot more fun and easier to sing to...

Singstar Sucks!

I received Singstar for Christmas and was EXTREAMELY disappointed. After seeing the commercials on TV (which make the game look like so much fun), I had a rude awakening. The songs (most of them) on the game are too old for younger generation karaoke lovers to enjoy singing to. I'm sure that people over the age of 30 really enjoy the game, but anyone younger than that shouldn't waste their money on this game. Go out and buy Karaoke Revolution instead!

While we did have some fun playing the game, we were terribly disappointed to find that there is no way to mute or silence the original voice tracks so as to present a more true to karaoke form. Also, the microphones leave much to be desired. They do not amplify your voice at all. The only purpose they serve is for the game to judge your singing capabilities. Besides that, they do not work with other PS2 karaoke games AND they are heavy!
BOO!

We never received this product. I can't seem to find out anything from UPS.

Not for fans of the Karaoke Revolution Series.

As a fan of the Karaoke Revolution (K.R.) series, I purchased this game hoping to have something to keep me until the next release. I found myself disappointed with the lack of "game play". It did not hold my attention for long.

This game seems to assume that you've played others in the series.

CONS: There are no songs to unlock; the thirty listed are all you ever get.
I found it a bit more difficult to play than K.R.. There is no real-time pitch information for those who aren't spot-on which means if you aren't familiar with a song, there is little hope of scoring well until you become familiar. (I was able to sing songs I'd never heard before with K.R. and score in the platinum range)
The easy level seemed to be a bit more picky than K.R.'s easy level.
Occasionally the game throws you for a loop by forcing you to sing the harmony in addition to lead.
There is no tutorial or training mode to help you learn how to play and what all of the markings on the screen mean (you can read the manual but even that doesn't appear to explain much).
There is no microphone setup to adjust the input volume (although you can play with the volume that is output).
The ability to effectively mute the original singer appears to be missing.

PROS: The actual artist sings each song as opposed to re-recorded (albeit easier) versions of your favorite tunes.
If a video of the song is available, it is included behind. If one isn't, they've made video collages about the band and song to keep your interest.
You can playback your performance and even add sound effects to it like robot and reverb (there are four different ones I believe). These performances can even be saved to the memory card.
The microphones work on my Apple Macbook.
