While we did have some fun playing the game, we were terribly disappointed to find that there is no way to mute or silence the original voice tracks so as to present a more true to karaoke form. Also, the microphones leave much to be desired. They do not amplify your voice at all. The only purpose they serve is for the game to judge your singing capabilities. Besides that, they do not work with other PS2 karaoke games AND they are heavy!
BOO!
Should of read reviews first

We should of read the reviews before buying this game. On the surface the bundle pack looked promising: two mics with the game. However we were disappointed that the game is nothing like a karaoke experience.
The major let-downs include:
**Mics not compatible with the karaoke series**
Hard to improve singing, the videos distract from following the pitch level
Cannot mute the lead singer's voice
Hard to hear your own voice, the song drowns out anything from the mic.
Small cool-feature: able to play-back your voice recording. But you still have to hear it over the song and lead singer.
The interface is easy-enough to follow. We started a battle without any problems.
The song track is OK. Enough to not get bored.
We are embarrassed to be duped by the marketing, next time we will do the research first!
Not terrible but not great either

I wrote a review for Singstar Pop that I could have copied and pasted here since both games suffer from the same problems. I routinely read the reviews on Amazon before I buy so I knew what I was getting into. The reviews for this game are right on. Everything that is wrong and right with the games has been stated in an earlier review so I won't repeat the info, but as of my last review I had not played the game in duet mode so I wanted to add my comments about that. The duet mode sucks. It alternates between each person singing a few lines individually and then singing some lines together. Overall it is distracting and if you and your duet partner don't have complimentary voices you end up with a painful assault on the ear. Also, I cannot figure out why they would put songs on this game that are already included in the KR series. This is supposed to be Singstar ROCKS, but a more fitting title would be Singstar Rocks---sort of. Who rocks out to Rocket Man? Or Every Breath You Take? The artist lineup is good but they picked some lame songs. Once you sing the few good songs you're ready to go back to your KR games. What they need is a Singstar METAL. Now that might be something. I should mention that is does have a unique feature in that if you have both Singstar games you can swap them in and out without resetting the Playstation. I cuts down on the impatience of waiting for a new game to load. I love KR and it would be great if you could do this with them as well.

This game is so much fun! The only complaint I have is that there are only 30 songs. It seems like you keep singing the same songs over and over so after a while it isn't as interesting.

BOUGHT THIS FOR OUR GRANDCHILDREN, WHO ABSOLUTLY LOVE IT. TROUBLE WITH IT IS AFTER A WHILE THE ADULTS AND KIDS ARE HAVING A TUG-A-WAR OVER THE MIKE. I DROPPED A STAR IN OVERALL BECAUSE IT ONLY COMES WITH ONE MIKE (OURS DID) AND IT COULD USE ADDITIONAL SONGS.
UK Tracklist is better!

I recently bought this game and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The downside, as mentioned in previous reviews, is that these mics won't work with Karaoke Revolution games. It's a shame because the microphones feel heavy and well made and it's a pain to have to get another mic on top of these just to play the other games.
I haven't played KR so I cannot compare the two, but I was very disappointed that Maximo Park, Franz Ferdinand, Hard-Fi, Queen and plenty of others were not included in the US version. Next time, perhaps they can keep the UK tracklist and simply add more songs to suit the US market if they must? If they release the 80s version here they'd do quite well to keep that one exactly the same, unless of course they'd like to add more songs like I suggested above... I'm all for that.
All in all, this game has been fun and that's all I really wanted from it. It could have been more fun with the songs from the UK version but I knew they were missing when I bought it so it really doesn't bring my overall rating down.

I received Singstar for Christmas and was EXTREAMELY disappointed. After seeing the commercials on TV (which make the game look like so much fun), I had a rude awakening. The songs (most of them) on the game are too old for younger generation karaoke lovers to enjoy singing to. I'm sure that people over the age of 30 really enjoy the game, but anyone younger than that shouldn't waste their money on this game. Go out and buy Karaoke Revolution instead!

For a group of early 20-somethings that don't feel like spending money at the bar, this is a fantastic game. Normally my friends and I break out DDR, but this is definitely our new favorite. It's great weekend entertainment without dishing out loads of cash. A MUST for house parties.
The playlist is amazing, it has a nice mix of classics and new songs. When I was comtemplating buying this item I looked at the playlist and saw Friday I'm in Love by The Cure. It sealed the deal for me.
For younger kids with a more...general taste in music (i.e. rap, R&B, top 40 pop) this is not the game for you. But for those of us with a broader, more eclectic taste in music, this is the one to pick up.
