Singstar is no Karaoke Revolution

I bought the game b/c it came with 2 mics for $50. The mics do not work with K.R. My other disappointment is that when you sing you do not get the moving line graph to show your pitch. It just puts dots and dashed where your pitch was, which makes it harder to control your pitch. Karaoke Rev. is easier to for that purpose. Otherwise, it is not a bad copy of a karaoke game.

Addicting and Fun!

I absolutely love this game! I originally played it at the Playstation tent at Lollapalooza and spent 3 hours battling other people instead of watching musical acts like Kanye West. It's great fun for parties and everyone gets really into it. The lyrics are really easy to read and it shows if you are off key or not so you know to adjust your voice to the right key.

The only drawbacks are that the mics do not work with other karaoke games for playstation and the song selection. Some of the songs/artists I've never heard of before like Keane. I wish there were a few more song choices, esp. more from the 80's or more actual rock songs/groups like the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Some songs in the game are:

The B-52's: Love Shack
Elton John: Rocket Man
Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive
Dusty Springfield: Son of a Preacher Man
Aretha Franklin: Respect
The Police: Every Breath You Take
the offspring: Self-Esteem
Fall Out Boy: Dance Dance
The Killers: Somebody Told Me
Hole: Celebrity Skin
and also includes the White Stripes, Blur, Keane, and more!

I bought it after I saw it on a tv commercial. Thought it looked awesome with the blur and fallout boy songs. When I finally played it Singstar "rocks" ended up having RESPECT by aretha franklin....and will smith summertime...and love shack. Hardly the songs I thought I'd be singing to the Rock version of this game.

Waste of money

Unless you listen to a lot of rock this game may be fun... THE MICS DO NOT WORK FOR ANY OTHER PS2 KARAOKE GAME!!! Karaoke revolution is a lot more fun and easier to sing to...

I purchased this game bundle because I enjoyed playing my friend's "Karaoke Revolution" game, and I thought this would be equally enjoyable. First off, the microphones only work with the Singstar games, which is a bit of a rip-off. Second, the game isn't much fun. In challenge mode, you have to sing along with the person you're up against, which isn't as good as singing solo. There are no extras to unlock, either. The playback feature, where you can listen to your version of the recording you just sang, is nice, but overall the game is quite limited in its appeal. It held the attention of my group for less than an hour before growing stale. Purchase one of the "Karaoke Revolution" games instead.

Singstar Rocks. . . Sorta

I was thrilled when I heard of another Karaoke game coming out because I just can't get enough karaoke--I have to admit that Karaoke Revolutions is really the main reason that I bought my PS2.

Singstar Revolutions is a neat game with good songs and really cool features, like being able to play back your performance and add sound effects, etc. It also has an easy way to swap expansion discs. In these features, it has improved upon the Karaoke Revolutions line by Konami, it's predecessor.

However, I find the game experience a lot more frustrating. I have really gotten used to Karaoke Revolutions's way of scrolling the words from side to side right below the music/pitch indicators. Singstar, instead, rolls the text up from the bottom, with the music/pitch high up. Therefore, you either need to know the words or the music really well before you sing the song, and even then, I usually find myself reading the wrong line of text because my eyes went to the bottom line but the line that I was supposed to be reading has already scrolled up to the top.

In Singstar Rocks, You also don't know if you're off pitch until it's already happened with the way that they splash the feedback highlights over the pitch indicators, whereas in KR, you tend to get an idea a microsecond before because of the pitch arrow that's following the "note tubes."

I did like the music videos in SR, but I have to say that I enjoy the toony characters that you choose to represent you in KR and how they react to your performance (glowing when you do well, etc.). I was also highly annoyed at having to buy new microphones for SR--my KR/USB microphones won't work with it and vice versa. SR also obviously stole my brilliant idea of using colored electrical tape to mark microphones to match the different colored parts in duets.

KR has helped me improve my voice and I've had fun playing it, but I don't think that I will be able to say the same for SR. KR is so much more fun and easy to use.

Bottom line: stick with Karaoke Revolutions

Karaoke Revolution Party
Karaoke Revolution: American Idol
Karaoke Revolution Volume 3
Karaoke Revolution Country

Singstar Fun for all Ages

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my daughters, ages 11 and 13. Both of them love it. It is fun for them and I could see them having fun with it at sleepovers. It is a lot of fun even if your not the one holding the mic. There is a good mix of music that all ages would be familiar with. My 15 year old son sang the White Stripes "Blue Orchid" and walked out of the room when the song was over. My daughters did the "playback" with his voice (he was clowning around when he did it) and I laughed until I couldn't breath. It really is a lot of fun and I would recommend it to tweens, families and people that like music and don't mind laughing at themselves from time to time.

Needs more songs.

Singstar is a hit in the house. My kids love it as does my girlfriend. Easy to use and set up and is great for entertaining guests. Must have the microphones included in the package, the Logitic microphones will not work that come with American Idol or High School Musical Karaoke games.

Problem loading the game after first try. Would never purchase this again. It is a waste of money.
