Fun variation on the Sims

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 55 / 58

My Sims is not like a normal Sims game. Personally, I love the anime style, and relaxed game play. You work on tasks you want to do, instead of trying to make sure your Sim stays happy and alive in previous games. You design houses, furniature, and decorate, as well as collect "essences" that are used to do pretty much all of the above. You ask new Sims to move into your town. The music is pleasant, and the "voices" of the Sims is adorable. It would have been nice if this game was wifi compatable, but it is not. I also was a bit disappointed with the number and amount of loading times for a wii game. However, its overall a cute game, that has been keeping me entertained. If you like games such as Animal Crossing, where you basically chat with neighbors, collect things, and customize your pad, you'll probably enjoy it. :)

Simple, addicting fun

I have played virtually every Sims game since the original SimCity game, and I think MySims fits nicely into the series. It is, above all else, simple. The graphics are 'cute' and attractive, not realistic. As other reviews have indicated, the 'social' aspect of the game is less important than it was in the previous Sims games. It is really about building and creation -- a hybrid of SimCity and the Sims, with an anime look. I do wish the character interaction was more developed, but the game is really quite fantastic -- and addicting. The goal of the game is really rather mundane, to construct buildings and 'stuff' to revitalize the town, but it is really great fun. Highly recommended, if you can get past the simplicity of it all. For the first time in MANY years, I am addicted to a video game.

Mainly construction.... nothing like the real Sims

If you hate building in the normal Sims then you probably will not like this game. It has cute effects but the majority of the game has to do with building houses, using a metal detector to find "essences" and planting or watering trees to receive essences to do more building!!! I have only owned this game for two days and am currently on level three which I have to admit is now interesting. I honestly hates this game until yesterday and even though I still do not like it I have to admit it has addicting qualities to it. I would suggest renting it as I do have friends who love it (they also love building though!). It seems that the majority either love or hate it.

A bit of a yawner

I am a big fan of the Sims and Sims2 games. I was very excited about this title. But its a big of a let down. It is not at all what I expected. Pretty much its a building game. Nothing else. You walk around town, you are given tasks to build certain things, you then walk around, collecting materials to MAKE the items and "essences" to decorate them with to suit each client. You then give them the item and they ask you to make something else. There is almost no interaction other than these requests for stuff.
You cannot customize your character more than a few things, they are little different from the Miis except they are cuter.
One thing that is extremely disappointing about it is that it is the exact same game regardless who is playing. If my husband creates a Sim, he starts in the same place, same way, same town. I will never see his Sim, he will never see mine.
That being said, its a fun little game but I wish they had called it something else, there is really very little of what you think of as the Sims here.

Not a Typical Sims Game

Okay. This is not a typical sims game but that is okay. I have been addicted to the Sims from the beginning on the computer but HATED the console ones. This was such a breath of fresh air for me. The console games were always too complicated to play with a controller and the tasks were too hard. I have only played for one day so far but this is a nice leisurely game to play with little frustration. I love the look and feel of the game and the tasks are so far nice. I rented and now am definitely going to buy this game as it appeals both to myself and my kids which is hard to find.

Agree with Navy Wife... Rent First

I rented it and personally thought it was so bad that I turned it off and watched a movie instead. It starts out with the Mayor walking you around and having you build stuff. I personally thought that it was a little difficult (and I hate to say it, but stupid) to build things. My house and workshop looked weird- nothing how I would have liked to build them. Then the mayor told me to put a chair together and I had had enough, this is when I hit the power button. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance, but I don't really want to. Give me a new version of Sim City for Wii (I have downloaded the old one on my Wii for $5 and played it for hours and hours!)

Simple, boring, and tedious.

There is nothing remotely challenging, interesting, or fun about this game. It is the most boring, most tedious, and least fun Wii game I have ever played, and one of the very worst games I have ever played on any game system. There are no redeeming qualities about this game. The only way in which one might find this game amusing for more than about 5 minutes would be if one were about 4 years old or mentally deficient.

The first clue is the characters themselves--all of them appear to be about pre-school age. Normally, I'd be upset at Electronic Arts for making a game like this, but by making all the characters toddlers themselves, and putting several of them right on the cover, it is clear that Electronic Arts is not trying to hide the fact that this game is designed for toddlers. Still, it'd be nice if the ratings system had more categories--there ought to be one that warns teens and adults that they will not find a particular game such as this one remotely interesting.

This is not like a normal Sims game very much at all--it is much, much more tedious and boring. This game is all about building things, and building things is not at all fun and is very boring, tedious, and simple. Any 4-year old will master the skill within 15 minutes. Generally speaking, the game tells you exactly what part to use and where to put it until you are done building whatever it is that you're supposed to build. You bump into the other people in the neighborhood, and all they ever do is tell you to go build something for them. The only other things this game involves are, basically, walking around shaking trees, digging in the ground, and fishing in lakes, all of which are very simple and quickly get very boring. You do all these things to get these things called "essences." But all these essences do is allow you to build more things. And that's it. Yes, it's all about building things. And there's nothing remotely interesting about building these things, and nothing interesting about any aspect of this game.

If you were thinking about buying this, I'd definitely advise renting it first, although I wouldn't waste your money even on a rental if you can avoid it. Some games I do not enjoy but can easily understand how others might. This is not one of those games.

On the other hand, it could possibly be a great game for small children. I'd consider trying it out if I had a child of anywhere between 3 and 7 years old, or if I were the guardian of a mentally deficient person. Otherwise, this game is absolutely horrible. There is nothing remotely fun, interesting, or challenging about this game. It is only slightly better than watching paint dry.

Great fun, much better than other Sims games

My Sims has a lot in common with Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon -- it takes a while to play and you're not blowing things up with laser guns, both of which I feel are GOOD things.

You arrive in town and meet the mayor and get a tour of the town, then you design and build your house using the Wii controller and nunchuk by rearranging blocks and clicking them into place. If you don't like designing and building things, you might not like this game.

Other Sims games I've played on the computer or other consoles have struck me as being kind of creepy and not so much fun. I like My Sims MUCH, MUCH better than the other Sims games. The graphics are good and the overall spirit is much lighter and kinder. There's a sense of humor throughout the game. I still like Animal Crossing better, but this is a VERY good game and I recommend it if you have a Wii!

Cute but wish they had added more

This was a game I was really psyched to hear about. I purchased it the first day and have played it almost non-stop. Overall this is a cute little game that will give you hours of fun IF you aren't looking for an experience similar to the PC versions. Like most of the non-PC Sims games this one has a definite plot line and less free for all then the Sims or Sims 2 PC versions. You have goals to complete and new characters to meet. If you enjoy building and taking care of a little digital town this game is for you.

All my problems with this game are fairly minor and have little to do with the game play. I wish they had some sort of interactive dimension to the game. There should be some way for you to go and visit other My Sims towns to see what other people have built. It would be great if you could look at their designs, copy or trade with them, and really make a community out of a game that begs to have one built around it. The designers seem to have forgotten that they were working with a next-gen platform about halfway through the games design. While they did an excellent job of working in the Wii's unique characteristics with fishing and prospecting, they missed a whole avenue to make the Wii designed Sims' games as popular as their PC counterparts. Also, and this part I am unsure on, I do not believe that you can hook the Wii version to the DS version which is a bit sad. Did the designers run out of time? Or are these things low on the priority list until they see how the game sells? Questions I just don't have any answers to.

My Sims is a good game that begs to be tweaked. Hopefully this is not the last Wii based Sims game we see.

addicting
